@ atacus
verbatim or taiyo yudens. burn at 4x. no slower no faster
@guy before him
use DVD-. its better, i guess. but you can use either or. use Verbatims or taiyo yudens. DVD-9 is a dual layered game. more then 4.3 gb. needs to be rebuilt. DVD-5 is a single layer game. 4.2 and less.

using a DVD-R or DVD+R depeds on ur ps2 version. if its an older version, it reads DVD-R. if its newer, i think it reads both. not sure on exactly which versions read which. u could just use DVD-R just to be on the safe side.
DVD-5 are one layered DVD's, ur everyday kind. They are 4.7 gb. DVD-9 are dual layered and can hold more.

Okay, so my post was on the last page if people need more clarification as to what's happening here. Basically, I'm having the same problem as AtacusRed is/was. Extremely slow loading, the game is skipping, etc.
I'm using DVD Decrypter on ISO Write to burn the iso for the game directly onto the disc.
So far I've tried Fujifilm DVD+R (Up to 8x write speed) and that worked fine for a while, but then I began having the problems above after a short time playing, even when I had played those portions of the game perfectly just minutes before. When I burned this one DVD Decrypter I first thought a slower speed was better, so I selected 1x although the program burned at an average of 3.7x, with 3.9x being the highest.
I've also tried Fujifilm DVD-R (Up to 16x write speed) and had the same result. This time I used DVD Decrypter and burned on 4x as many people here had recommended. It works perfectly for a while, and then I start having loading issues.
Is this a problem with the media, do you think? Perhaps it would be helpful if people would list every brand of DVD media that has worked well thus far. I might not have access to a lot of them, so it's nice to have some options. I think I'll try one more brand and then give up, because this obviously isn't going to happen for me.

@karim,
Magick Keys 2 3.6 comes with Swap Magic v3.6. Magic Keys 2. 3.8 comes with Swap Magic Version 3.8 Coder Edition or whatever its called. Coder edtion lets you use cheats from like action replay. and no, you cant play psx imports or backups with swap magic. you need a modchip with psx support or a gameshark lite.
@sahir,
yes u need swap magic to play backups. and you can burn the iso or the mds file.
@iceman,
Use verbatim or taiyo yuden
@shadowish,
could be your laser.

Hi all!
I have installed a Duo GT Modchip on my PS2. I have tried to make a couple of backups using DVD Decrypter. I have not been able to play these on my PS2. How can I know that the modchip installation is ok? The LED indicator works, and I can boot all modes. Is this proof enough that the installation is ok?
Thanks in andvance!

My laser, eh? That does sound plausible. Although.. my computer is brand new, so the DVD writer should be okay. I've been trying to play this game on a PS2 Slim version, which I purchased about a year ago.
Any other ideas? I was hoping this would be a simple fix, but I guess not..

damn it guys.
@Bosman,
open XXXX.001 manually with WinRAR. extract the image and burn with DVD Decrypter or Nero.
@Darksimmo. are you sure you are using dvd's and not cd's. lol. GTA:SA is not that big of a file for a dual layer game.
@terning,
i have no idea about modchips. i think you shouldnt have installed it yourself unless you are a pro. then again, im no pro at modchips. so i cant help ya here. are you using good media? maybe that your problem. taiyo yudens and verbatims are good.

i tried to burn kingdom hearts 2, i used verbatim dvd+r and burned the .iso file with nero startsmart, dvd decryptor, and alchohol 120% and all doesnt work. what am i doing wrong? i also burned at 2.4x which is the slowest speed i can go. o..and does it matter if the .iso is still in winrar format? i also get a messsage on my magic swap after i swap the disc, it says "not a playstation 2 disc", and if i leave hte flip top open to much it says please insert TOC disc.
