Hey, UCC, I'm a newbie and even I know that. Yeah, your PS2 is designed to not read burned games. So you have to modify it in some way in order to play them. What you have to do depends on your PS2 model #. They look the same, but PlayStation puts out new models of the same console every so often in order to thwart piraters. So to find out what model you have, go here. http://www.mod-chip.com/en/ps2version.htm Then decide what to do.

@jacckk
The best ones are Taiyo Yuden and Verbatims. + or - r's are good, dont use rw's at all.
and do you mean can you copy ps2 games that are for online play?
you can download ps2 games using torrents or other ways.
8. Q. What should I use to download PS2 games?
A. Bit torrent, P2P, IRC, or newsgroups. Bit torrent is the easiest and most common way. You need a BT client like Bit Tornado, Azureus, Bitlord, Bitcomet, Shareza, etc.
9. Q. Where can I find PS2 games to download?
A. http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/249297 @garre
you can get em anywhere, i just bought a 5 pack at walmart, only needed that many
@UCC
3. Q. Do I need some type of mod to play PS2 backups or imports?
A. Yes you need a modchip: http://teammodders.com/ps2_mc.php?ex=2 Swap Magic: http://swapmagic3.com/ Memory Card Exploit (Doesn't work with v.11 PS2 and later): http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/109289 HD Loader: http://www.hdloader.com.au/hardinstall#prepare or
HD Advance: http://www.hdadvance.com/hd_advance_how-to-use.htm
4. Q. Is game X compatible with HD Advance or HD Loader?
A. HD Loader: http://list.ps2hd.com/ http://homepage.ntlworld.com/casey.miller/HD%20Loader%20Compatibi... HD Advance: http://forum.hdadvance.com/hd_advance_compatibility.asp http://www.ps2nfo.com/ps2hdd.html http://list.ps2hd.com/
5. Q. What modchip should I get?
A. Matrix Infinity (Green Dot), DMS 4 Pro SE, or the Crystal Chip 1.1.
My ModChip FAQ: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/304534
7. Q. What do I need to use Swap Magic?
A. With fat PS2 v.1-11: Flip top: http://www.chipzone.com/installation/playstation2/fliptop/page1.cfm Slide Card: http://www.saveware.com/SlideCardUsageAndInstall.htm With Slim PS2 v.12-14
Flip top: http://www.chipzone.com/installation/playstation2/fliptop/page1.cfm Magickeys (also referred to as slide tool, slim tool or, magic switch): http://magickeys.net/ Ghost Switch: http://www.saveware.com/GhostSwitchInstall.htm Tape and Tissue mod: From Pretense: If the fliptop doesn't work, just give up on it and do a tape and tissue mod. Open up your case again and tape the back sensor (toward the upper left and beneath the hinge part of the lid) with duct tape or even regular Scotch tape (I use several layers to be on the safe side), put the case back together, and stuff a small ball of tissue into the hole for the front sensor (lower right just above the power button).
Pics (Thanks to PSPness): http://www.geocities.com/pstwoslimline/tapetissue.htm my tape and more tape
Just about the same, just a change on Censor 'A' and Censor 'B'
Censor B - http://img393.imageshack.us/img393/572/dsc010703xc.jpg keep the top closed, while you tape down the disk stopper, using a few layers of duct tape
Fur
Censor A - http://img393.imageshack.us/img393/4342/dsc010698we.jpg use tiny strips of duct tape to patch over the tiny censor. I used a screwdriver to help put on the tape.
Here's some additional pictures (Thanks to xhardc0re): http://www.console.com/product_ps2_pstwofix.php

I found a post earlier in this forum saying that I need to go to the "rebuild games" sticky, but I cant find the actual post telling you how to rebuild a game to fit it to a dvd. (DVD Decrypter says 50 cent bulletproof is too big) Anyone have the direct link to the forum, or a way to make it fit?

Oh, so you need both a mod chip and swap magic huh...
Well, I guess it was worth a shot...
And I have the old gameshark...but it apparently doesnt work with the slimline ps2's (which blows because now I cant play backups and I also cant cheat! Oh well.)
Thanks for everything guys!

Hi... I'm new here.
I've read a good amount of the pages on this thread and it looks like I have to have Swap Magic OR a Mod Chip on my Ps2.
I have a few questions that I don't think I saw answered.
When you use Swap Magic do you insert the Swap Magic DVD ONCE and then play ripped games to your hearts desire?
Or do you have to use it everytime you begin to play a ripped game?
Im trying to copy a Star Wars: Battlefront II game for Ps2 (i have the old fat ps2) and i think i need this DNAS Patch on the burned copy. I have no idea on how to do this (despite the instructions i found on ps2info.com cuz im frigging retarded) and I can't download DVD Decrypter anywhere.. i can only download AnyDVD or DVD Fab Decrypter(which i have)
and lastly, can you use a burned swap magic DVD?

I just been wondering about this, its no big deal... but what is the game kb to gameplay ratio? For example: an RPG is approximately 4,500,000 kb, and plays for 20+ hours. Anyone know the exact ratio? (how many kb equals how many hours of gameplay)
