thanks, I think I like the swap magic with slide card method. I found it for only $20, or am I missing something? Also, how would I know if I need to patch it due to DNAS authentication? If so, what's the best thing to use?

you can find out if you need to patch it by checking online in the forums on various sites like ps2ownz.com to see if anyone else had to patch it. I just use trial and error, if my first burn doesnt work i look to see if i need to patch it.
Any dvd burner should be good, make shure that it is compatible with a good recording program that you have like DVD Decrypter, stomp recordnow max or primo prasse. I got a dvd burner (nec2510A) that isnt compatible with stomp (needed for global image files unless you want to convert them to iso) and its a little bit of a hassle sometimes. Just make sure it is compatible with the software you intend to use.

read my other post, i mentioned a patcher (ppf-o-matic) you might also need to use addzer0 which is included in bjohnson's spoonfed guide to backing up ps2 games.

Too all people burning ps2 games, YOU NEED A MOD CHIP or some sort of SWAP TRICK to play the backed up games.
For people who don't like to sodder or who don't want to break the seal and open the ps2, use the SWAP MAGIC DISK SET with the SM SLIDER.
This is easy, but can be a pain as it takes 1 min to setup the games to be played. Search it on google.
Mod chips are the best way. Once installed all you have to do it pop in the backup game and it will play.

Hi first post and I got a question.
I'm trying to burn NFSU2 and it is an ISO file and I used DVD decrypter mode->ISO->write and it writes to a dvd-r. Now my problem is that when I boot up with swap magic I get a blue border it sounds like the game is starting up and then the whole screen goes blue. I have other backed up games that will play but I can't figure out what went wrong. Any tips would be appreciated!

But if you know of anymore and can recommend it it will be mucho appreciated.

Let me ask a stupid question. Why can we not simply copy the boot sector/files on original ps2 games with decrypter, DVD Shrink, etc, which should copy the entire dvd anyway? Bad sectors? I'm buying a swap disk to get the copies played, but, what is so difficult to copy on ps2 games compared to other dvd's like movies, which are easily copied?

Hiya.I had Trouble with DVD Decrypter when trying to rip a Compact Disc PS2 game.DVD Decrypter worked prefect with a PS2 DVD Game but it would not read a PS2 Compact Disc Game.So after trail and error i use CDRwin 5 to read a PS2 Compact Disc Game then DVD Decrypter to burn them to disc. You can tell a PS2 Compact Disc game.there are two ways a Compact disc game the Disc is Blue plus on the PS2 game cover it tells you Compact Disc or DVD

You are supposed to use the MDS 1 file, thats the whole point!
you click on the MDS, it tells the dvd decryptor what files to burn in the iso

Hi Guys, well a big thanx to all the people who know what they are talking about in this thread. Just ripped and burnt Athens (U can't be fussy when it's free)from my nephew using all the methods desribed in this here thread. After reading all 10 pages( unlike some other's i could mention)I was looking forward to nickin' a few more games. I followed the same method on Metal Gear Solid 2, and, after ripping and burning the game, stuck it in the ps2, game loaded, got to the screen that shows new game, load game, options, and whatever i pressed, it went to the same screeen of press start. Any idea's? Thought I'd cracked it.......but maybe 1st time lucky.
p.s
When I burnt using DVD Decrypter, I put the burn speed down to 1x but my copy was burnt at 3.3x.
Would this be the problem.
Any help greatly appreciated

i dont know about a patch, but u should try burning at 1x speed if possible, thats if ur not already, a friend of mine backed up sons of liberty and it worked perfect, he used cheap media packard bell 2.4x-4x speed dvd+r, i am pretty sure he used DVD Decrypter just a simple read and write, if ur backup does not work try burning on a dvd+r, i know my PAL v10 ps2 wont read dvd-r.....
