Sounds like you got the programs corrupted. The exe files of one aren't supposed to work the other. You didn't get a path in RB messed up did you? All I can do is speak for my setup and say it doesn't happen to me. I've yet to hear it be a problem for others and many of us have Nero with Recode on our systems. As I mentioned, I have a lot of other codecs besides and they don't have a problem either. I'm curious to see if anyone else has had the same problem.

LOL Can't I call you a moron here just as easily? LOL That aside, I agree with you; if Shrink and some others have their own section, why not RB? After all, the RB app is second to none for doing quality backups. I'm in support of an RB section.

Jdobbs,
I just installed the most current version .94

I used RB on the Ring 2 with version 93 and 94 and both times the file size was larger than normal. Only with this particular movie though.
I did a batch mode and the other movie came out normal.

here is the log file...

well it's not as embarassing when you bury it behind 2500+posts but you just post it where you like there brobear
any way's thnx to brobear we now have a forum !!that was quick I think the ava. in his sig must have intimidated someonelol!!

I do think almost everybody should start a new thread and use this one for refference

especially if you are not using CCE or your question has to do w/ comparing encoders or other options
as that is why I love rebuilder it gives you the power to do all the tweaking here and there and provides us all a deeper knowledge
than the one-click program's that everybody is stuck on today

When you say "bigger than normal" what do you mean? Is is way oversized? A little?

Have you set a non-default value for "TargetSectors" in your INI?

one more interuption then i'll be out of the way!!

@jdobbs I commend you on being ther for the pple as they say the war is won on the front. good to see you taking an interest

@qwik4a6 what encoder are you using I'm sorry a little "out of loop" of late but I think your answer lies in the defaults in your encoder if Iam reading your inquiry right the file is bigger than your media will allow right??

It's slightly bigger, but big enough to where it won't fit on a DVD-5
( the output file is 4.49GB. When I try to burn it with Nero, it goes over the allotted space and tells me I need a larger disk.

Where do I edit the .ini file? I thought I found it but I don't see any parameters that included target sectors. Can somebody point me to it?

Again this is the only movie to have done this so far.
Most of the other movies output are 4.32GB's.

Occasionally the program can get corrupted for any number of reasons. I've had this happen on my PC. Instead of going through an extensive search for the problem, I simply deleted the setup, ran the cleanup software, and then reinstalled a fresh version of the setup. With the Rockas installer, you will probably spend more time doing the cleanup than the install. So far reinstallation of RB has worked the few times I started getting oversized files. As in your case, it wasn't with all DVDs. Some DVDs are more difficult than others to encode is why you see some that come in okay and others not when the problems crop up. When things are working right, as we know, they all should be properly sized by the default settings. Each time this occurred I tried adding the setting for size and it didn't work and the reinstallation did (the whole setup, not just the RB part of it). It doesn't take long, so give it a try. At least then you'll know it shouldn't be a problem with the setup.

Is this an NTSC disc? If so I'll pick up a copy of "The Ring 2" and give it a run to see what I can find. Having seen "The Ring" -- the odds are slim that I'll watch it though! LOL

Jdobbs,
Yes it's the NTSC disk. the one that just came out last week.

Brobear,
I hear what you mean, But I just fresh installed .94 Last night and ran it, and it still made it a slightly larger file. So that's with a clean V.94 install and also with a V.93 that has been working perfectly.

My guess is that' it's a disk issue...
Maybe someone else on these boards will run into the same problem with this movie, then we can know for sure.....

Sort of missed a key part there. Did you clean up the system as I suggested, also deleting the Avisynth and the encoder? Maybe someone else will have a similar problem and you can work out a solution. I just stated what worked for me and it didn't take near the time or trouble. I'll let jdobbs do the testing with Ring2, I didn't particualarly like Ring.

If you have any additional soundtracks that you can remove that should bring it within a workable size without re compressing it.

Sophicles,
I did that...no go.

I'm starting to think there might be some problems with Copy protection, I can't get it to copy with Clone DVD 2 or Intervideo copy 3....

Either that or a faulty source disk....

I'll wait to see if others report problems.

It's beginning to sound like a structure problem. Have you tried running it through DVD Shrink under no compression? It can sometimes fix structure problems and it will allow you to remove unwanted soundtracks. I don't use Shrink often but sometimes it's a workable choice.

I just did "The Ring Two" with the Pro Version as a baseline. It came out to exactly 4.32GB. I'm now running it with DVD-RB v0.94 Freeware and CCE Basic... I don't think it is going to be any different -- but we'll see in a couple of hours.

What version of CCE are you using?

Jdobbs,
I'm using CCE version 2.70.02.00

Let me know how you make out with V.94 RB.

Thanks

Is it still a $10.00 donation to get the pro version?

No it's not too late -- but it is getting very close. Right now based upon the feedback I'm getting it appears RC5.1 will be the last release candidate.

I ran "The Ring Two" through Freeware v0.94 using CCE Basic v2.70.1.4 and it came out perfectly sized. I will run it through using CCE SP v2.70.2.0 -- but I'm confident it will come out the same. Could you please send the REBUILDER.INF and REBUILDER.INI to dvd-rb@dvd-rb.com? That way I can see what's different in your run.

Jdobbs,
I think I found out the problem. I had steal space from extras always enabled 50%. And it always worked with all other disks.
After hearing your Ring 2 worked I figured I would try again.
This time I didn't enable steal space from extras. And it came out
the right size, 4.32.

So for whatever reason, this feature must have been giving me an issue for this particular movie.

Thanks for all the help.

But let me burn the disk to know for sure. I will report back!

Update:

Well, I burned the Ring 2 after I finally got RB to the correct file size. It burned with Nero, no errors or warnings, but won't play in my standalone. It doesn't even start up. ( I haven't had any movies not play when using RB)

Jdobbs, Let me know if you got it to play in your DVD player.

I still think it might be a source Disk issue.

@quik4a6,

I just burned it and it works with no problems. I think you may have a scratched disc or something...

Jdobbs,
It must be a screwed up source disk.

I just backed up another movie, no problems....

DVDInfoPro or the like can be used to check media for errors. Anytime you have problems not being experienced by others, it's usually easiest to check the source to elimiate that possibilty to begin. Then look to the settings. jdobbs pretty much has the bugs worked out of RB. Most problems now are media issues with the source or the recording media and user errors. Occasionally there will be a problem creep into the setup (corrupted files), but that is becoming more rare all the time. Even with constant updates, it's been some time since I've had to do a complete reinstallation.

@qwik4a6
If you suspect a problem with the source, why not check it?
