Hi great forum!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's my firt time, i'm chilean excuse my english
I'm confused, dvdrebuilder i love it!!!!!!!!!!, but i have a huge problem in my configuration Avs options - advanced expert options,I must to check....... disable "interlaced" or NOT.
other forums says yes, but i've been reading and here says no,who says the truth?
Please help me!!!!!!!!

Who says the truth? I do. "Disable Interlace" was put there for one specific purpose. There are rare (very rare) occurrences when a PAL source is marked as interlaced when it actually is progressive. All it does is force the stream flag to progressive. If you use it any other time you are going to make a combed/ugly output.

It can be a little faster on some processors. The truth is -- that in most cases it is better to leave all the options at their default state and just push the "Backup DVD" button. All those options are there for people who want to tweak.

I hope someone can tell me what is going wrong with my backups.I am running into a sync problem with the backups.There is a delay from when they start talking and you hear the sound.This is the 4th movie backup that it has happened on.I checked the source dvd and it plays fine.On the backup the picture is good the sound is good they just aren't together.I am using the pro edition with Hc and best settings.Thanks for any help.

I was just reading some other threads and just a quick ? could the audio problem that i am having with dbd-rb be due to the fact that i watch my backed up movies on my ps2?I read some threads where some people run into trouble with playback.thankyou.

Well, the easiest way to check that is to try the DVD on a standalone player. How is it playing on the PC software, if you don't have a standalone? I'd think you'd want to have at least a cheap DVD player as shortening the lifespan of a PS2 to view movies isn't exactly financially sound practice.

i bought the ps2 more for the dvd player then for game playing.I do think a stand alone player would be a good investment.i'm bringing my backup of million dollar baby to a neighbors house to try his standalone player.I am hoping that this is the problem and not that all my backups using rb are messed up.thanks.

well now that was an expensive lesson i just learned.The movies play perfect on my neighbors standalone dvd player and he just installed powerdvd on my pc and the movie is great.I threw out a bunch of backups from when i was using dvdxcopy because they were not playing well anymore on the ps2.I believe it is time to go to walmart and by a cheap standalone player.Sorry i did not think to check it on a different player that seems like good common sense in hindsight.Thankyou once again for your help.

Try a Daewoo from Sears for $39 they will play just about anything including dual layered disc.

If you can't find one of those, the Philips at Wally World is one I like. Mine will play most anything that is round and fits in the tray.

Well mace, it's not an RB problem. But now that you have the PS2, check into a mod chip. With that you can do backups of your games and play them. BigO is happy with his. RB doesn't do games, just in case anyone sees this. Had to get back on subject there. ;)

This is kinda directed to jdobs (since he is the author of dvd-rb) but if anybody knows the answer please do so. This is not a problem but just a question.
I've noticed on some large video folders (6.8 gb or larger) that require a lot of compression that although the menu and main movie look excellent some of the extras are pretty badly pixelated even though I don't have steal space from extras checked.
My question is does dvd-rb automatically steal some space from the extras on high compression applications in order to help preserve the video quality of the menu and main movie? Thanks.

When you haven't selected "Steal Space" the reduction of the material is done uniformly... the same percentage is applied against both the movie and the extras. Often, though, the original authors gave more priority to the movie -- and the bitrate for the extras is barely above the acceptable threshold. So if you use a 60% reduction, for example, it may look good on the movie but result in poorer quality on the extras.

I noticed that steal space is set at 10% after DRB install with the installer. I have to manually uncheck it before the first use.
But I have also noticed that extras degrade faster under high compresion.

jdobbs is right about the extras being inconsistent in quality. Sometimes they're so poorly filmed that even with nominal bitrates the quality is going to be degraded. Even the aspect ratio is often different which suggests to me that they were filmed with lower quality equipment. Most of the time the extras aren't worth keeping because not only can they degrade the quality of the main movie but they're about as exciting as watching grass grow.

UncasMS and I have been discussing problems with backing up Alien Quadrilogy RC2. I think that we agree that it's likely to be yet another ILUV annoyance. To find out if others were also having a similar problem I posted some info on a forum and a member came back stating that they also have experienced the same problem. I know that you've already been working on it but could you shed a little light on the problem?

I've done all four of the Alien Quadrilogy movie discs (NTSC, R1) in my testing... In fact I went out an bought them just for that purpose. What is the problem you are seeing?

@sophocles don't mean to interupt but have you checked the ripped file I think it to be a long shot but I read somewhere that decrypter was having trouble w/ a couple of rc2 releases nothing from rc1 yet this may not be of signifigance in this particular case but thought I would throw it in there!

Sorry I should have been clearer, it's uncaSMs and HKT3020 that are having the problems, I'm still in the process of obtaining the discs. According to uncaSMs the RCI version is OK but the RC2 version causes problems. I'm not sure what the differences are between them. According to HKT3020 he's experiencing the same problem with the quadrilogy that he experienced with Terminator 2 EE and both of them independently concluded that it was an ILUV problem.
