Quote: I am new to backing up ps2 games,after doing 50 cent Bulletproof without a hitch(Thanks alkohol),I got a little cocky and gave GT4 a shot,this one was a whole different ball game(so to speak)LOL
With the help of sonix tutorial, and the tools provided, I was able to make a backup of GT4(US version)it looks and plays just like the original.
Finding Sonix's website was a blessing for me, because his tute was easy to understand and follow,also I dont think doing this game is possible without Sonix tools(nice website btw).
Thanks sonix and alkohol for helping me get started :)
blaze on guys

Yeah you should remove the email before Creaky or Darth sees it. Creaky is the "Nerd Nator" after all lol. Sometimes people use a program called HJ Split to split up files. That's probably what the other file you downloaded was. Every game I've ever downloaded over bittorrent was a rar file, fortunately. There aren't really any specific tips for decompressing the FFXII Demo. Download Winrar, install it, and if you end up with a bunch of files like Game000.rar, Game001.rar, and Game002.rar, decompress the first numbered rar file, Game000.rar in this instance. Burn at 4x on quality 8x media. I used Ritek's for this, I wasn't going to waste a Taiyo Yuden on a demo. I wasn't overly impressed with the demo. The battle system is too much like FFXI. My personal FF favs are V, VIII, and X.

I have tried every method listed and still I have nothing that works.
I used DVD Decrypter and got three files. One 3.99GB one 3.76MB and one MDS file. Together make 4.36 or something. Tried rebuilding, tried Gnie's tools, tried IML method. Nothing works. They don't shrink the files at all. I just end up with one that's still 3.99GB. However under the PS2 folder in the game directory then the sound folder there are WAD files, all ending with names like 'sp' for spanish and 'en' for english. Like the Battlefront 2 method I deleted the ones that weren't in English and ended up with a total file size of 3.55GB. Then I changed the system file from:
"BOOT2 = cdrom0:\SLES_537.99;1
VER = 1.01
VMODE = PAL"
to
"BOOT2 = cdrom0:\WAD1.DFU;1
VER = 1.01
VMODE = PAL"
just like the battlefront 2 process. Then I created an IML anddid all that mumbo jumbo.
And... doesn't work. Nothing works. How can I get it to work?
Anyone?

Just to make a correction here, creaky is the "Nero-nator", not the other way around, alright. C'mon now, it's obvious because my buddy creaky has been helping out a lot of members at the Nero forum, therefore, he's been given that name; Nero-nator.
Just a side note that's all.

If you followed my MATRIX PATH OF NEO on page 3, then you shouldn't have any problems at all. Meaning if you did everything right, the "final ISO should be 3.55GB", the original ISO is 4.37GB.
I recommend you start everything over again and follow the guide carefully, here http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/3/275350 -- PATH OF NEO is not that hard, GT4 is the hardest of all.
**NOTE: the guide for PATH OF NEO is the US version NTSC, just so you know.
**NOTE: PATH OF NEO doesn't really needed/required to rebuild, but with a straight ripped and burned, sometimes (50-50 chances) it will freeze or jump, so the rebuild solved that issue.
Good luck!!

Wow. This is amazing how so many people can ask the same thing!
I know i havent been on these forums as long as some people, but im getting annoyed at the constant
"How do i back up PS2 games"
"Where do i download ****"
and so on...
I'm sure the people who found this forum can use the search feature, and im sure there able to read, so why don't they?
And if you are using XP SP2 try holding down Ctrl when you click the download links (this overrides the activeX and download settings) and you should be able to download these.
If it doesnt, try and find where the files are located, EXAMPLE: http://website.com/download/CD_DVD_GEN.zip or
something with an .exe on the end.
I hope you understand.

If you take a good look at my very first guide on the first page, then you'll notice that the "tools" can be found/download at page 5 & 10.

I still can't rebuild the original any smaller, keeps coming out at 3.99GBs. ISO Buster has an error reading the WAD1.DFU file so I use Ultra-ISO which works. Shouldn't change the final extraction though.
Nothing is wrong with the original file.
Has anyone done this backup with the PAL version?

My media is fine, I've used it many times before. You wouldn't have heard of the brand, i'm in New Zealand.
I don't think it's my media because my rebuilt ISO is the same size as the original ISO.
I think files may have to be deleted. Like Battlefront 2, like I said earlier if you delete the foreign sound files it becomes 3.55GBs, the same size as everybody else's rebuilt ISO

Don't be so sure. It sounds very possible it's a cheap media problem. Cheap media won't fail with every game, it will fail with some and degrade quickly over time. What's the media ID on those DVD's. This is important, that's why I'm asking.
91. Q. What is the Media ID of a DVD and how can I find it?
A.The Media ID of a DVD is the true measure of it's quality. It contains prerecorded info about the disc's manufacturer. The quality of the disc will vary depending on the media code. The media code isn't visible on the disc or the packaging. To check the media ID, Open DVD Decrypter, insert your disc, and check what it says under Media ID or Manufacturer ID. You can also use a program called DVD Identifier which is very useful. You can find it here: http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_tools/dvd_id... Last but not least you can use DVD Info Pro: http://www.dvdinfopro.com/ Compare the Media ID to this link: http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm

If it is a media problem it won't explain why all my rebuilds aren't getting any smaller. I'll try one more time from scratch.
Manufacturer ID: NAN YA A01

@ilovecake
I'm afraid I have to say it's the media you're using. I've been burning for a long times (roughly 5 years) and I've never heard of those MID before. MATRIX PATH OF NEO is NOT that hard to rebuild and backup, it only required the basic steps of rebuilding only. With that being said, if you've followed the guide and it failed to boot/load properly, then there is a possibility that it's the media you're using.
My suggestion is to get some high quality media like Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim "advanced azo or datalife plus" and MAXELL (mij by Hitachi). I've been burning and using those 3 top notch media and so far, all of my backups plays flawlessly.
Good luck!!

I couldn't agree more. It seems like the need for quality media has been getting questioned lately. I'm not really referring to ilovecake as much as I am to some other threads. Quality media is very important. I'm getting tired of saying it of late. If people would use quality media, the PS2 DVD forums would be a lot smaller. Again ilovecake, this isn't aimed at you, a couple people in other threads have got my goat with their insistence that media quality doesn't matter. Off topic, I'm just venting, sorry. Get some good media and I don't think you'll have any issues. Cheers!

So why doesn't my ISO get any smaller?
Did you have three files when creating the original image with DVD Decrypter?

The main purpose of rebuilding the iso isn't to make the game smaller, it's to make the game run smoother. When using Swap Magic it's necessary to overwrite the dummy files while rebuilding.

Well the last rebuid I made came out at 3.39GBs, But Nero 7 had an unspecified error burning. I did the same thing once more but the rebuild came out as 3.99GBs.
Still don't know what the problem is.
I've used these DVD's to backup many games with no trouble. Battlefront 2, Battlefield 2, NFSMW.
I'll try better DVD's tomorrow.

My media is not the problem. My rebuilds are no different from the originals no matter how many times I do it or what programs I use. I think it is the PAL version that has the problem. I don't think any one in NZ has actually backed up path of neo.
