Quote:So what do u actually do when u rebuild it technically? Does it actually delete anything? Or are u just simply compressing it to fit on DVD5 and not deleting anything, whether or not it is or isnt valuable/necessary for/to the game/ISO.?
In a simple term, yes... it is like shrinking. First, extract the ISO, then extract the files from the ISo and rebuild it (re-construct them in order). If one of the file on one of the layer is too big, then you'll need some special tool (ripkit) to trim/shrink that file into a much more smaller file. Once that is done, you have to re-generate the IML which contains all of the info on the game, then you'll need to generate the IML to make a totally new ISO (much, much smaller ISO than the original ISO). ISO is an image file that carries everything from the game (or dvd).
To make a long story short, and I don't want to go into too much of technical terms here. So let's keep it simple, "to rebuild" a PS2 game(s) is like.... you're ripping your house apart, then rebuilding from scratch (a new house), but just a smaller house. Get it!!

Hmm not sure what I mean than :) Thought those were the programs i need to burn A ps2 game .. I have Decrypter And a ISO program .. Besides a burner/program what else do i need to burn a ps2 game
>_> Come on, I know what all those mean, I just never tried rebuilding cause I didnt need to...who doesnt know what an .ISO is? I burn all of my backups with DVD Decrypter, got to say, its undoubtedly the best out there. That's what I thought, compression, wow, thats hot, I'm still amazed though that you can do that to PS2 games, wonder why the devlopers dont do it, DVD5 would save them money. I guess its kind of like reducing quality, like in a DVD, backing up DVD9 to DVD5, you just select the quality level, high, standard, long, super long...makes sense since PS2 games are like 500mins long, they're heavily compressed to fit, cant wait till Blu-ray.

Yeah the Blue ray on the PS3 will be ridiculous. From what I understand, the discs will hold 22.5GB's of data! That's insane. Wonder how they're gonna mod that. Anyway, DVD-R's and DVD+R's should both work fine with newer DVD players. DVD-R's are more compatible with most stand alone players, DVD+R's are of better quality. DVD+R's can be booktyped as DVD-ROM's, providing almost universal compatibility with most players. To Burn PS2 games, you need a DVD Burner, quality blank DVD-R/+R, burning software like DVD Decrypter or Alcohol 120%, 5-8GB's of free HD space, and some type of mod like Swap Magic or a modchip in order to boot your backup games.
2. Q. Does the type of media I use matter?
A. YES: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/1/240341 If you're too lazy to read, use Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, Ritek, Sony, TDK, Maxell, Sony or Phillips DVD-R's. Avoid Memorex, Staples, Imation, Dynex, Princo, Bulqpaq, etc.
CMC Magnetics is garbage. Need proof (Thanks to Alkohol):
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/1/262544 If you really want to do the PS2 backup thing right, pick up some Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim's. I only burn to TYG02, the 8x Taiyo Yuden DVD-R's. So far I've never had a lag, skip, freeze, or boot failure since I switched to Taiyo Yuden's. With results like that, why would I use anything else?
53. Q. What is Booktyping?
A. Booktyping is the ability to burn a DVD+R so it that appears as a pressed DVD-ROM in any DVD-ROM drive it's inserted in. If you booktype DVD+R's, this allows for greater compatibility with most stand alone DVD players, including your PS2. Your burner has to support booktyping (most newer ones do).
Booktyping with Nero and DVD Decrypter: http://www.k-probe.com/bitsetting-booktype-faq.php
It's actually 27GB on 1 layer, dual layered ones with 54GB are out, and they're using those for full HD movies already and made a couple. TDK also showed a working 100GB 4 layered Blu-ray disc at CES.

Wow that's insane. I think the X Box 360 jumped the gun a little on it's release date. I have no intent of buying a PS3 until it's modded, that's gonna be awhile. So how would you burn 27GB discs? I doubt commercial burner's could handle that much data. Are press burners the only ones capable of writing that much data? Just curious, thanks for the info.
I don't suppose your nick is a refernce to Janos Audron from the Soul Reaver series is it? Just curious. He uploaded IML2ISO v4. http://s37.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=1SFQ0CFVJ6AOK35CXS8UGGAVJM Download it now while you can. I'll submit it to SKS Apps. The rest of the stuff is relatively easy to find, you just need to search a little. You could've found it all in a couple minutes:

Ironically I'm getting ready to burn Xenosaga to a Verbatim Advanced AZO (oh yeah lol) DL DVD+R as we speak. I'm sure you'll be able to get it. If you can't do it, I doubt anyone will be able to. It will require some major downsampling though, I believe it's in the top three biggest PS2 games TOC wise. Btw, don't worry about trying out my DQVIII guide, a Swap Magic user already confirmed it worked. Good Luck!
hello i got gt 4 on ps2 how ever im from australia and its PAL can any 1 tell me is there a different method of burning it becuz ive tried about 6 times none successful. i got the latest myth chip works on 99.9% of games.
For GRAN TURISMO 4, go here http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/5/275350 (I've revised a brand new guide for GT4 on page 5). I recommend you read/follow them carefully. Tools are included in there, but if it ran out from the period of trial, I'll gladly be happy to upload again for you once I get home. Or if you have any issues "rebuilding GT4" just hollar at me and I'll see what I can do alright. You should be fine, remember... take it slowly, no rush, follow the guide carefully and you'll have a successfully backup of GT4 within an hour.

that method was so easy and perfect, pretty sure it worked on my game Genji, which i tried first to put on a DVD+R 8.6 gigs dual layer disc but would only show the playstation logo and stopped there. the only think i can that i should do when dual layer is that i have to put that toxic patch is that right??
i have not played the whole game of genji yet, but seems that it is working fine with your method, only prob was is that DVD Decrypter still told me it was to large for a regular DVD-R disc so i used Nero, seems okay thanks again for the great help really appreciate it.......lol largyros
If it can backup (support) to what it claims, then there is a possibility. It does stated in the "history" that it supported PS2 CD/DVD. However, I've never used this program (UltraISO) before, with that being said, I have no comment. The only programs I used are:
<> DVD Decrypter 3.5.4.0
<> ISO Buster Pro
<> Apache 2
<> Apache 3

how do I use Gnie's PS2 Auto Rebuilder Tool?
does it rebuild a ps2 image to be smaller?
I put all plugins into the same folder as Gnie's PS2 Auto Rebuilder and it didn't find any of them why?
do I create an image with DVD Decrypter and then do all that Rebuilding with Gnie's PS2 Auto Rebuilder
That's cool, I wonder how expensive Blu-ray burner's will be. Oh well that's the first step toward a mod for the PS3, gotta be able to burn the discs first. Now we just need the MI or DMS team to get cracking on the mobo and PS3 code. It will be done, eventually.
Yes you need to Decrypt the game to your HD with DVD Decrypter first. MODE-->ISO-->READ, then click Decrypt.
10. Q. What does rebuilding an iso mean?
A. It means that some games 4.36-4.38GB's may need rebuilt to work with Swap Magic. This isn't true for ALL games over 4.38GB's and differs on a game to game basis. There is no need to rebuild games if you have a modchip. Another purpose of rebuilding is to make games run smoother. Usually the size of the game after rebuilding is smaller, but not always. If you're a Swap Magic user, make sure to look out for dummy files when rebuilding.
1. select Shrinker_ps2_psp_CdDvd5_iso.epi on the plugins list.
2. Select the iso.
3. Click extract LBA
4. Click extract file
5. Click rebuild file
6. Click rebuild lba.
Make sure you do it in that order.
This worked for me when every other way failed.
It is very easy to do so even the noobies should be able to do it.
Keep in mind im backing up the PAL version, but if your having trouble backing up with NTSC then i dont see a problem trying.
Good luck.
