I wouldn't worry about the occasional screw up, it's through screw up's that we learn. If a person did everything right the first time every time then on the one time that they didn't they'd be lost. Assembling parts is a great learning tool, but trying to trouble shoot errors from failed experiments, "Priceless."

Very good advice and spot on if you ask me. :0
I've had very good fortune building computers but I do have the occasional "hiccup". lol. Building is EASY but trouble-shooting is "FUN". :D
....gm
Oh.... the trouble shooting part is only fun if you figure it out and don't destroy the "item" before that happens.... hehehe. :P

Hello guys, was wondering if you can help me w/ somthing:
I was trying to change booktype on my AD-7200S to burn compatible Wii backups, but apparently, it doesn't support it >:(
So I did some research and I came up with these firmwares. Problem is that there is a bunch to choose from, and I'm not sure which one to take.
GM, I know you're the go to guy for these things, so I sent you a PM, but I'm not sure if you received it or not.

mrk44,
This is the answer to your question from cdfreaks.com
"Explicit booktype setting is not possible for DVD+ media with this drive; however if you look at some of the reviews, they mention that the drive automatically sets DL media to DVD-ROM, to maximise compatibility". Here's a review as well.

The thing is that I'm not using DL media, just DVD+R, and I also read a post at cdfreaks.com, specifically the second post on this thread, that says the firmwares I linked to will allow bitsetting on my drive.

mrk44,
My experience with Liggy & Dees has not been the best. I managed to ruin a drive using it, and that was with GM helping me at the time, on line! The drive met all the criteria for flashing and it said it was successful. All I got was a blinking light and the drive no longer worked. Eventually I was able to recover the drive with cdfreaks software! It may just have been an unlucky day for me or something. I can honestly say that so far I've I've not had problems with any of the software from cdfreaks.com I've crossflashed a number of drives to Lite-Ons and upgraded the bios and never had so much as a minor glitch!
Russ

Russ you have scolded others for statements like that and I can't let you get away with it here. Just because you had issues with the f/w or drive doesn't mean you should condemn L&D f/w forever or for the others that might read this forum. You post a lot here and people trust your "advice". So the way I see it you just "turned off" a few people from L&D f/w and there is NO reason for that. I've flashed a few of the drives you're talking about and I've also flashed a few of the AD-7200's and had NO issues what so ever.
It doesn't mean that you did it wrong you just had some "bad" luck and I had "good" luck. :D
Please think about blanket condemnations when you say, "I won't use L&D's software again! I just don't trust them!" or similar statements.
This is similar to your feelings about ASUS!! NOT to start a mobo discussion but they make decent mobos as well as other companies besides gigabyte.
All in good learning and assistance to members everywhere. :D

GM,
You are right, and I've ammended my post to reflect that. As far as Asus goes, it was an entirely different thing. I do recommend their motherboards from time to time if it suits the need, but I won't hesitate to give my opinion if I know that a certain MB has been having problems!
Respectfully,
Russ
