I have been getting a fair amount of TYs that my Lite On LH-18AP (2) either won't recognize or will burn about 15% and then say that the media is corrupted. I did some research on some other sites that evaluated TYs and they were very negative. Right now I can't use them at all with the above burners and am using the burners to read only and burn them on an external Lite On 20A1HX. Are these discs still the same high quality or are others having problems?

to be honest I'm getting crappy nero quality scores with my Lite-On LH-20A1S using Taiyo Yuden media BUT i don't think its the media because my Plextor/Pioneer PX-810SA are burning them fine. the main problem I'm having is right at the lead end of burning the disc is where its spiking and i haven't figured out an solution.
make sure the drive you're having problems with has the most up to date firmware or try Verbatims. I still think Taiyo Yuden is the best media on the market

hows it going ZOSO IV
@frbernard
i have the same drive the LH-18A1P. i myself had the same problem with the TY media.you useing the 8x+r stuff? thats what i had problems with... what firmware are you useing.i started with the GLOG and it wasnt that good. but since then there is a few updates
GLOH+GLOJ im useing the GLOJ right now but Ithink the GLOH is better. once i updated to one of those(and they both work)i am able to burn anything and everything with that drive.
here is a link to the liteon site for the GLOJ firmware.
http://www.liteonit.com/global/index.php...pper&Itemid=154
when yo get the drop down tab click on optical storage then the next box choose the LH-18A1p drive

Cincyrob:I use -R and I did update to GLOH (it is the only option offered to me) and I am still having trouble. These burners have been somewhat erratic ever since I got them. They never would let me put a dvd in one and then automatically burn it in the other drive. Ihave to do that manually. Now I put a dvd in one of them and it burns automatically to an external burner that I have plugged in. On another subject. When I use the external burner with my notebook it takes a long time reading and burning a dvd (about 4 times longer than it does when I use it with my desktop. What controls that and can anything be done about that? Good to hear from you, again.

ZOSO I would make sure that you have the f/w from c0deKing if you haven't already. The 20A1 series drive is supposed to be a pretty good drive and the one that I have does a good job. What's funny is everyone is hyped up about the Samsung SH-S203B and I'm not impressed at all. lol. WE all have our "preferences" when it comes to DVD-RW drives. :D
I'm glad that you've found other avenues besides NERO that work for you. IMGBURN and Clone do a decent enough job so 2 out of 3 isn't to bad. ;)
btw just so you guys remember.... DVD-R normally "scan" a little worse on most drives so if your scores aren't perfect with DVD-R media don't panic. ;) I normally get better results with DVD+R media across the board with the drives that I have. :D

Hello to all,
I haven't been in here for a while but I have a question which is an old fafvorite:
Which and where is the best firmware for a Benq 1620?
The ol' 1620 seemed to fo a lot of burbing and hiccuping on a scratch install of XP.
I saw a reference at cd freaks for firmware but the link was dead.
Any help on this?

herrick that's basically the SATA version of the LH-20A1H.... I have the LH-20A1S and like it just fine which is the NON-lightscribe version of the one you are looking at. I know that hobbit has one of the LH-20A1H models so you might ask him about the IDE version for reference but again it's not the model you are contemplating. LOL. Sorry...
what about this one?? if you already have SATA cables and don't need the software.... ;)

I am catching up after not reading in here for a while. This question is on Imagburn.
Does Imagburn do ISO files? Or what is the best recommended ISO burn routine? I have Nero 6 and Decrypter and Shrink.
I'm dl'ing a 4G file.
Would like to burn it to CD or dvd. I think it should fit on either.
Only prog I can remember doing ISOs on is Linux K3b. But I'm not working in Linux these days. It's straight Win2k.

img burn is basically for bruning images (i.e. .iso) to disc and from my experience it tends to have less problems than nero has on some drives (rare but it happens) pretty much any burning software in the m.s. "windows" world will handle isos. i would go ahead with img burn, not only is it free and reliable its made by the same guy who made decrypter so the interface should be familiar.
p.s. the new nero 8 ultra suite is fantastic, much better thab 7 ( even better than 6 imo)

Yes Imgburn burns ISO files along with nero, dvd decrypter and clonedvd 2, all of them work fine using good media and burning no faster than 8x max is what makes the most differences

Yeah, I love ImgBurn, also. There's very little I need to use Nero to burn, now, although it does do a better job on the very few CD-Rs I make. ImgBurn will also burn DVD-Video quite well.

Ok thanks. What happened to all the pix of Jessica Alba or whoever it was? :-)
I'm still holding out for Padma Lakshmi.
I spoze I can run it through Nero. And I remember seeing ISO in Decrypter.
On a 4G file, I'd open it in ISO then make sure I write, right? IIRC
I remember there's something backwards about that. Like Read means burn or something. I can follow the icons for file to disk ok.
I'm going to grap Imagburn again anyways.

yeah when using dvd decrypter its ISO read to read the file to you're HD then to write its ISO write and you're good to go

Hello all,
Hopefully this won't be considered off topic - Just wanted some advice regarding the printable TY Watershield CD's and DVD's. I was curious as to what printer people would recommend for printing on these discs for optimal quality and print durability? I am currently using an Epson R800 but it uses pigment inks and I had read somewhere that these discs don't seem to like pigment inks as much as the dye ones. I had heard good things about the Epson R380 for inkjet CD/DVD printing, especially with the Taiyos. Any advice regarding this? Thanks

these watersheild disc look awsome when printed on cant tell from the original. TY hit the nail on the head with these (outside of the costly price)
myself i have the Epson R320, and it works great on these type disc. some here have the R340 basicly the same printer just a few extra gadgits.
i think there is a epson 580 i think thats it, scans prints copies to disc and pretty cheap right now...
hope this helps ya.
