cincyrob,
I find with the R800, even after letting the discs dry for 24 hours that the ink (especially the black) will still smear somewhat if you run your finger over the surface of the disc (even if it's dry). I had this problem with the regular printables I was using really bad, and I still have it to a degree with the watershield, but it's much better. Also, any suggestions for printing to get it just right? I end up with excess ink on the hub hole and also the non printable rim around the outmost edge of the disc. I wonder if the pigment ink on the R800 is the problem, because the new R380 and also the R2xx series use the dye based ink as far as I know.

I've just gotten this media from a friend , the code is TYG02 which according to the code are meant to be DVD-R 8x TY. However, doing an analysis with DVD Decryptor and DVD Identifier the media is able to burn at 12x. The code on one of the inner ring reads as:
GG000283
I tried to backup a PS2 game using dvd decryptor, burning at 8x but the burner is only hitting average speeds of 2.4x. Is it the media, perhaps the burner or the settings?
I'm using the Pioneer SATA 212D burner atm.

@zeebra
Those-R discs are genuine TYs the best maker of DVD blanks-they have a GG00xxxx on the inner ring and yours are GG000283. I hope you got a lot of them. Media can be burned at a faster spped than rated sometimes. I would not do it especially if you are just beginning to burn dvds.
Is your burner firmware up to date. The burner may not know exactly how to burn them. Is it an old burner? Have you had good success with other media earlier? We need more info! You can use DVD decrypter to get your firmware and check it. Since I don't burn games, I am at a loss for any help there.

I've had success with old verbatim disks burning at the speed I set with both alcohol and dvd decrypter.
Just updated the firmware, am going to give it another shot. thanks for the reply

zeebra go here for the latest "official" f/w update. Strait from Pioneer btw. ;)
Like garmoon said you got the genuine article. :D For ps2 games I would guess that you want to burn at about 4X anyway. Try that new f/w out and see what you get. Please get back with us but if you can provide some more info that would be great. TRT scan, ScanDisc scan, and even a DQ test for giggles. ;)
What engine are you using again for burning? IMGBURN, Nero, Clone2, or something else?
Again good luck to you...

Over the years, I've come to conclusion that over 90% of burn errors are user or pc related; and not the blanks-even CMC Mags.

I tend to agree garmoon. With my burners in different pc's I can pretty much burn anything - now it's not 100% on the low grade stuff but most still burn. Though afterwards they tend to degrade :)

I just recopied 2, 3 year old CMC mags that were originally done with DVD X Copy Xpress Gold and there were no problems with copying or playing them. I did another one from 2 years ago Wed. that worked. I haven't used many CMC Mags tho and was lucky when I bought some Memorex, that were TYs early in my burning days. Even TDKs I bought were TYs. The I found the Sony TYs and bought all of those T02s.

I recently ordered 800 RICOHJPNR03 (in the Maxell guise), but some or all of them turned out to be CMC MAG M01; it seems to be a mistake at Maxell's end, not the supplier's end - the supplier have since reworded their adverts for the Maxell which suggests they can no longer trust which of the 2 MID codes they will receive in future.
Have had a minor few bad burns with the CMC and one skipped upon playback today, but have also been using loads of these CMC discs for Xbox game backups and so far not one of the Xbox backups have let me down. (the way i use the xbox backups is that i burn the ISO's to dvd then install the entire dvd to the xbox hard drive - this is a very good test of how 'secure' the data is on the dvd, ie so far so good);
When i've burnt and played/or copied back many more of these CMC discs i'll know if i'll be confident in buying/using any more in future (i couldn't be bothered sending them back to the supplier), though most of the stuff i have read over at cdfreaks doesn't bode well for these particular CMC discs, and we all know how they love CMC over there :)

You're right creaky. CDF really loves the CMC MAG stuff. lol. I have a few of the CMC MAG E01's and CMC MAG M01's. From my "tests" the M01 has more potential and will even burn at 12X with decent results. ;)
NOW of course the TY's that I have burn like a champ so NO worries there. ;) TYG01, TYG02, TYG03, YUDEN T02

About a year ago I got 100 of those Maxell CMC Mags here in States at Office Depot on sale. I used them as test projects and giveaways and had very good luck with them-burning on BenQ 1650s and QSuite.

Get a magnifying glass and check out the inner ring and look for a code like GG00xxxx that will tell you if they are TY G02s.

I picked up a Maxell 50 pack that had the code for Ricoh plus there was no ring on top of the discs & they turned out to be Ritek's. I think Maxell is mixing up the wrapping!! Anyway Ritek seems to be the main supplier for Maxell at least for now....

I keep reading all the excuses for CMC MAGS but am still convinced that they are still junk. use a plex,abenq and 2 old pioneers and all are doing fine. the cmcs degrade too quickly even though the burns were originally ok. I paid the price early on. now strictly ty and very very few failures. you can take that for what it is worth. ironically the two pioneers will read often when the other two will not

in order are all great places on get TY media. you will never have to worry about fakes from any of those vender's
theres no quality difference between the sliver top , printables etc. so get what works for you. i use the sliver top and use a Sharpie (less expensive)

Hi stan789
supermediastore.com is a good place to buy. Many of us here have used them for awhile.
Get the silver thermal ones unless you have a dvd printer like the Epson R series that will print directly to disc. If you have that printer and want to print on them then pick up the white or silver inkjet.
The purple is on the burn side on the media.
