I am having a real problem getting my burned PS2 DVD games to play. I have read this thread thoroughly and tried numerous ways of burning the games. I have swap magic 3.6, and DVD decrypter and have also got Alcohol 120%.
Basically what I'm starting with is an ISO file that i've downloaded and extracted using winrar. (I have the original game but I'm doing the downloading and burning it option out of interest.)
I know how to use DVD decrypter and can easily use it to read and write a DVD.
Now with this downloaded ISO, I have tried burning it straight to disc (which has worked once for one game), but with other games, 90% of the time it tells me its an invalid PS2 disc when i play it.
I have tried burning at x2 and x4.
Also I've tried decoding the downloaded ISO image using DVD decrypter and then burnt the ISO image. That didn't work so I burned the MDS file which also didn't work.
From what I've read on this forum, it should be as simple as burning the ISO image straight onto DVD (at around x4) yet it just isn't working.
People have mentioned using ISObuster which i have got, but dont know what it does or how to use it yet. May i need to use this? I have attempted to look for dummy files using instructions from this forum but not found any in the games.
Please help.

yup, only a modchip+properly burned game on DVD-R or a swap magic+same thing = working PS2 backup.
READ THE THREAD before posting ?s that have been answered 5 gazillion times damnit!
oh yeah...forgot to say...you need an .ISO file to burn the image to DVD-R. Those .RAR files or DATA.PK & SLUS209.27 files just don't do the trick.

@jaffa
one reason it may not be working for you is because the game could be to big for swap magic 3.6
if it is a game that you already own then i suggest using dvd decrypter and make a copy and see if swap magic will load it. if it will load a copy of your origonal but not a copy of a download(tisk tisk) then you have a bad dl or doing it wrong, if swap magic wont load the copy of the origonal then the game is to big for swap magic and you either need to rebuild or get a modchip, swap magic is limited to size
if you are trying to play a NTSC game on a PAL system then you need to get a modchip, i dont think swap magic will correct the difference like a chip will
And yes this was answered in the thread as well

buy dual layer dvds they are 8.5g, or waste alot of time rebuilding it if you dont have a dual layer burner, but if you are using swapmagic you HAVE to rebuild it because sm wont load dl dvds, you may also have to put toxics dl patch on the iso aswell depending on what chip you have. good luck

if you are gettting an error when you burn then it is either the file or the program, if you are getting an error when you try to boot then it is either a bad burn or swap magic cant boot it, and since im pretty sure you are downloading(tisk tisk) it is probably the file or you are extracting it wrong

actually, NO.
Swap Magic will allow you to play games of any region, because there is a region selector before you take out the SM disc & put in your game disc.
at this screen, you'd click down on C.Pad, then select either Normal, NTSC or PAL. That region's code will load on the SM. Of course, you have to own the right SM disc for your region's PS2 so it can boot up.

swap magic will work but you need a way to swap the disc out with your backup..i take it you have the slim model.. even though it comes stock with a flip top you still need to modify it..check out the different options on swap magics website or just read a few pages of this forum and you'll find out everything you need to know.

well guys.. i've done and did something dumb..tried to install a matrix infinity chip myself.. and after i got about halfway through i lost all patience and gave up..that had to have been the toughest thing i've ever done..i have a certification in electronics and repair and modding my ps2 SUCKED!!! so i'm sending it away so somebody else can do it. lucky i have a backup ps2 with fliptop/swap magic.. anyone else have any horror stories about installing their modchips? the toughest part was getting the damn solder to stick to the circuit board.

yes - put the ps2 game in your pc. open dvd decrypter and press mode, iso then read. save it somewhere. then put a blank dvd in the computer.do the same thing except press write instead of read. then when it is finished, you have a copy.

well hopefully its not double layer games that your backing up. if some of them are you are going to have to do a couple of extra steps like opeing the iso up and etc or you can get a dual layer disk and do as stated dermottae

Guys i'm really confused about DVD-R Disc quality. I wanted to know if the ones you get in a 100 disc Verbatim spindle are good?

Thanks Josh. Can any chip play dual Layer back-ups? And are Taiyo Yudens better than Verbatim's?
