This subtopic is on dual layer disks.
The DLs are still way expensive at the retail chains.
What is the best way to get dual layer disks and how are they used?
I ran into a burn job with Nero that asked fro a DL disk but then
says it's put it on long play on a regular disk. I want to get
any lost image quality back but am looking for inexpensive DL's.
If I could get a Benq 1655 at the same time, that would cut down on shipping costs.

theres several programs that will handle DL media CloneDVD 2 , IMGBurn etc.
the DL blank media is going to run you about 1.60 to 1.75 per disc online at supermediastore.com or meritline.com you will want to go with Verbatim DVD+R DL and booktype them to DVD-ROM

aabbccdd, there was a time way back on this thread about quality and premium ty media from SMS, the differences etc. I could be wrong but I think one fellow said to make sure you get the premeium ty's from SMS, they come in 50 pack spindles, its the way I always did get it before from them, couple of weeks ago I ordered another 200 pack from them and of course the add said 50 spindle packs, when I got them yesterday they came in 100 spindle packs.
The numbers did match the add on the order sheet but do you think I might have gotten ripped or am I just paraniod.

Just some random peice of info. i have read several guides, and tryed seveal different types of media, and nealy ALL the guides written by experts say that the best dvd media is : pioneer, TDK, Mitsubishi, Verbatim, taiyo yuden, hitachi maxell, and sony.
However, i have tried them all out, and the result was always good, no matter what i was burning, but be prepared to pay high prices for these disks. they cost £0.79p to £1.50 each, so take advantage of a sale. for
a 95% to 100% success rate on burning, burn at no faster that 4X. for ps2 games, i always use TDK 8X and burn at 4X, although the best ps2 disks to use are prob taiyo yuden. the only reason i use TDK for ps2 games is the simple reason that the local shop sell only that brand.

@aszbaz
You might have gotten lucky; what do those TDKs code out as? A small portion of their 8X TDK +Rs media were actually T02 TYs. A most excellent media. By and large aabbccdd is corect TDK is poor media.

sorry, dont know the code. i have to admit though, i do get the most errors from TDK, in fact, the only reason i get them is coz my local shop sell em! they sell verbatim too, but only 16X Sony are pretty good too, but the most expensive!

azzbaz,
You can find the media code using this free utility http://dvd.identifier.cdfreaks.com/
I highly discourage buying any media off ebay, TY's or otherwise. If buying local your best bet will be verbatim.

At the end of Nero Express, you go to Record Settings and change it in there. That's off the top of my head, anyway.

you can select burn speed in Nero express next to the destination
drive. after you choose speed, you get to select number of copies.

Thanks. I think I'll watch for local deals. They seem to be
about the same as what you quote.
Verbatims should come around on deal sooner or later. My price
point for these is 50 cents. I'm very patient.

I got some SONY accuCORE DVD+R. when i run them under Nero cd/dvd speed disk quality test, i always get around 50-60 quality score. My burner is up to date, and i tried different speeds. The media code is YUDEN000 T02, not sure if there fake. There also made in japan. I was also wondering if the media on there would be safe?
thx
EDIT: been going through the quality test and even got lower scores...how accurate is Nero quality test? and should i be concerned?
