by the way, i acutally found a 160p6s at the amazon market place.
i think it one of the few place have them now days. its 39.99+10 for shipping and thats what keep me away from it. however it is the retailed version though. i really missed it big time when newegg have it in oem for 28.99.

Yujenh,
I'm with redice on this one. The LITEON's are as quiet as the BENQ's, both models that I have. I looked at the link I gave you and for some reason they show the beige model with less favorable reviews. I don't understand this because it is the same drive as the black one only it has a beige bezel. Go figure!
Man I would look around before I spent $40+ on that drive with newegg having them for $28-$32 delivered most of the time when they are in stock. Again good luck with this and happy burning.

hello guys,
i got the liteon burner today and i was surprise with an early arrival. i guess its pretty fast consider that i ordered it on sunday night and with monday being holiday so its not bad. As for the burner itself, i didnt like it. I burned around 10 disc and the scan is around low 90 mostly 90~92. It rip somewhat slow though, and its probably because I put it in the external enclosure. However, the Benq 1650 in the similar external enclosure rip faster then the liteon (rip same stuff by the way0. The media i use is mcc003. I guess i might get the 165p6s at the newegg and see how it is. Finally, the burner is not loud at all. You guys were right on man. The guys at newegg is misleading.
thanks for all the info and advice

Yujenh,
I don't think the other litey will scan much better or rip much faster. The scans are different with Nero scandisc and lite-on than they are with benq's. If you scan the disc you burned (using the litey) with a benq, I think you will find the quality score will be higher. Scans in the low to mid 90's using a lite-on will be around mid to upper 90's when scanned with a benq (same dvd). Regarding rip times, I believe all the new lite-on's are riplocked to 8x for pressed DL media. Benq's have no riplock.

thats true with the Lite-Ons on the quality scans Ive done a couple dozen scans and get a score of 93 EVERYTIME just don't get to hung up on the quality scan scores they don't mean alot PLAYBACK and being compatible with standalone DVD players is whats important. and you can control that by....
1. a good system with quality drives/burners
2. using quality media (Taiyo Yuden and or Verbatim)
3. burning at a reasonable rate (8x)
4. keeping your firmware up to date
5. keeping your system clean (disc cleanup and defragging often)
6. NOT have burning software on your machine that conflicts
7. This one is the most important...KNOWING WHAT THE HELL YOUR DOING AND knowledge OF HOW TO USE THE ENCODING/TRANSCODING BURNING SOFTWARE
Oh BTW Its Great To Be Back Guys, Good To See You All Again!!!!iam sure everyone was missing Adriana huh lol

the thing is i did scan it with the benq 1650. i guess part of the reason i didnt like the drive is probably because of the high expectaions. I wanted or would like the litey to be up to par with the plexy 716 or the benq 1650. I guess i am just expecting too much.
is the 165p6s going to be better then the 20x one i got??
I guess the only difference is the chipset isnt it??
The newer liteon use the mt1898 and the older 16x use the mt1888 am i correct on that?? is there any major difference between the 2 chipsets??
I guess i will try to burn some tyg02 with those litey and see how it goes.

i doubt the liteons or the benq's will be up with the plextor 716's.i have the liteon SHW-160P6S and love it. each model is gonna be differnt that the other in how they read and write, but the all follow the same guidelines of how to get the end product.you cant go wrong with any of these drives we're talking about each is different in there own way.. it is just you personal preference.. i was gonna get the benq dw1650.. kinda glad i didnt... not that they are bad im just real happy wit the way the liteon preforms FOR ME.
yes im sure each drive has its preference of what type of media it burns well... to be honest i think (mine anyway)the liteons really like verbatim media real well... i have used about 50 TY's in this drive and maybe 150 verbs since i have gotten it 6-7 months ago.. and the verbs have preformed better than the TY's not that the TY disc were bad disc. the verbs just seem to do better in my opinion..if that makes any sence at all to anyone..lol

I have a question regarding which TY media to get. I'm about to upgrade my Pioneer DVR-108 firmware to 1.20 and was wondering which option would provide the best balance of speed/quality between the 8x or 16x? and DVD-R or DVD+R? I know a lot of times its just trial and error but would like to hear, especially from those who have the same FW and burner as me.
thanks

i used both the 8x and 16x and had better luck with the 8x up till a few months ago and now the 16x is up to par with the 8x so either or is fine. i use the DVD dash R with my Plextor drives and have very good luck with that format plus its less expensive online than the DVD plus R . also i don't think you can booktype with that Pioneer drive and the DVD plus R has some compatible issues with playback on some DVD players so thats going to be trial and error on your part

I have the Pioneer DVR-108 w/ the last firmware update 1.20.
I use the 8x -R Taiyo on it and does great. It's burned many a Taiyo w/o a coaster.
I've used +R on it too but mainly just -R since this drive doesn't booktype w/o patched firmware and I have other drives that booktype.
I'd go w/ the 8x -R for it. Plus the Taiyo -R 8x is cheaper :)
@aabbccdd
lol - I'm glad the Colts won - what a comeback!!
Too bad the Saints didn't win too.
