thats what i burned them at was 8x. i dont burn anything slower than 8x. to be honest i think i have only burned maybe 10 TY disc on this liteon since i got it a few months back.

as for the new 18x litey i was gonna order it friday, but the wifes car went down. brakes are gone and i need to get a new rotor for it so my extra change went to fix the car.... i've been eyeballing that 20x drive to but a few people i know that have that one and the 18x they say the 18x is by far a better drive.

Well to me the only thing that counts is: how it plays and can I make a copy of it. I rarely scan discs at all.

i normally scan mine as soon as the burn is done. just waited (on the average)20 min's, so 2 more wont kill me..lol mostly good conversation stuff thats all. lol

yes, the 20x liteon is not a great burner. I bought one couple weeks ago and it have to be returned to be exchange for another one because for some reason it wont butn. It doesnt matter what disc I throw at it or which programs I used it just wont work. So I have to waste 10 bucks to return it so i can get a replacement. I dont know what is it but the new 20x is just not up to the par.

if i remember right, Joeryan said something about the 20x drives/media for one there isnt going to be any 20x media produced so you would only really be able to overburn a 16x-/+r disc. so the only thing different from it and other drives would be the ability to burn dvd-ram.
i dont know why they would make a 20x drive other than the fact to get us to want something newer/better. which it has done..lol cause i sure as hell no im getting that 18x litey..lol im not really worried about how fast it burns mor than the quality. thats what i want QUALITY.... Greensman and unjust2u has that 18x litey and they love it and have had nothing but success with it... i was tempted to get the 20x just for the fact they are a few bucks cheaper than the 18x and free shipping from newegg. but i have made up my mind that it will be the 18x only for me.

well, i should have known better though. the only reason i picked that 20x is because it was cheap. it was like $45 and comes with 20
packs of verbatim lightscribe media. whats strange with the first one (the one being return) was that it wont burn antyhing but it does rip with no problems. thats the reason i have to return it anyways.
However, forutnately for me I did pick up a 165h6s and 160p6s couple weeks ago when they have it in stock. I believe these 2 should be better then the 20x.

hello guys,
is nec 7170 and pioneer 111 anygood?? i just bought one of each because i cant resist the free shipping at the newegg. well, i dont really ecpect them to be awesome but i would at least I would like to expect them to be okay.

i am changing to verbatim or taiyo yuden soon. i have a question or two.
1. how can i guarantee a good burn?
2. how can i check/scan if there is a bad burn?
3.if i want to re-burn my games from TDK media to verbatim or taiyo yuden, will this affect game play because the game has been burned, ripped, burned, ripped and burned again? and what programs are reccomended for ripping ps2 games?

A search in the pS2 forums would help. Here is a thread that I found, might help. :)

1. No guarantees, but having up to date f/w and quality media will help.
2. Nero CD/DVD Speed, Quality check and check benchmark but playback is the best way to know.
3. If they are already in backup form then you should be able to copy directly from the old disc, Nero does this. The only caveat is do they play now? If not they won't after you copy them. btw TDK aren't the best media you can use. TY (DVD-R or DVD+R) or Verb (DVD+R) are the way to go. Of course I'm assuming the TDK you have don't code as TY but CMC MAG or one of the other lesser liked/reliable brands.
@Yujenh,
Don't know about the NEC but the Pioneer 111D is a good'un. My buddy has one with the most updated firmware (stock not the buffalo) and works like a charm. If you have no fears about flashing with a custom firmware you might try the buffalo. Sorry don't have any experience with the Pioneers or buffalo f/w, hopefully one of the members that does will add here. :)

by NOT using TDK media for one most TDK will code out as CMC Mag(what memorex codes out as) so get the Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden as soon as possibly.also burn at 2x when backing up games

you can do quality scans with Nero as long as your drive supports it ,some don't. or just go by playback

as long as there are no read errors on the TDK media you can transfer them to better media (Verbatim/Taiyo Yuden). you can use DVD Decrypter to backup your PS2 games or Alcohol 120

Nah Redskins fan here myself even though they suck right now.
Where I am that's the whole divide thing - since the Baltimore Colts left and then became the Indianapolis Colts there's been a rivalry - wasn't that bad until both teams got better (ravens & colts)
Since I'm a born & raised DC suburb gal - no rivalry for me - I've always liked the Colts no matter what city they played for.

well the wife is from indy and i had to hear it all night..im just glad they won cause im tired of hearing all these experts compair manning to marino. a good QB without a SB ring. he could only dream to be as good as marino... in my opinion. he is good but not that good. yea i know the other side of the arguement that now manning has a superbowl win... if and an buts.....lol if marino had the talent manning had on his team marino would have 6 superbowls....lol

i burned 2 more TY's this weekend and the scores i got were awfull.they both played but did have a few pixels in them about 44 mins into it on one of the disc. ive been burning them everyway possible. on the fly. rip to HD then use clonedvd2/nero/nero recode/ and DVD Decrypter to burn with no matter what i use i seem to get the same results.. poor Nero scan scores and so so results on play back.

@garmoon... i have only used maybe 10-15 ty's on the liteon i have. when i first got it it took a few burns for it to get used to the verbs i use, they are great. i havent put alot of TY's in it mainly cause i dont have alot of them. thats my thinking anyway.

I'm with garmoon on this one. Strange that your Litey doesn't like the TY's. I know they are real, but are they clean. Could something have gotten on the surface or maybe one of your little ones messed with them. I know that mine have and now keep them in a better place and also beat them if they get close to my stash. NOT really but they do get into trouble when they approach my little stacks of precious! lol.

Cincy has been burning one too many Chick-Flicks on it. Litey's like action films, blood, guts, gore, and things that go boom. Put down the soft feminine disks and grab a handful of manly material. Clint Eastwood is a good start.
