Great job blinkie,
It is related to the TY's. because thats one of the best burning combos especially the px 716 and TYG 02. Its really sad to see them pull out of market. They were the ones started the cd burning stuff and now they are gone. Hopefully the NEC will be good enough to survie. Other wise the burner market will be dominate by Taiwanese manufacture. Not sure that is the good thing or not.
Liteon will probably dominate the market if they can keep up with the quality they had.

read all the post guys/girls

I asked Mr. Peter Bosschaerts, Area Manager Northern Europe of Plextor about this article. The answer is:

"Dear Peter

This isn't correct, Plextor will still sell to consumer market in our brand name.

Best regards,

Peter Bosschaerts
Area Manager Northern Europe
Plextor Europe
Excelsiorlaan 9, 1930 Zaventem, Belgium"

Now what?

they will be out sourced and will not be true Plextor drives

BenQ went down now Plextor .yup looks like Lite-On will be the top brand .

hope the PX-716As i have last awhile

herrick,

Ripit4me is freeware and updated regularly. It's the only ripping utility I use anymore. http://www.ripit4me.org/ Make sure you download and install the official installer. It will have fixvts and DVD Decrypter (if you don't already have it) included.

@ Mort81 or anyone else...

Can you please give me some insight on why you use ri4m rather then AnyDVD [other then the fact its free]. I was under the idea that AnyDVD keeps up w/ the Sony grap the fastest?

Thanks

As for DVDdecrypter, yes I have had it along with DVD Shrink...they come in handy on split disks...I do believe you are the one that showed me how to do it LOL

HERRICK, AnyDVD and clone is the easiest way to go especially if you are not to computer savvy like myself, I have batted a 1000 with the both except for this new movie saw3, first time clone and AnyDVD has struck out, but, AnyDVD constantly updates its software, there is a site on AD you might want to visit called Thread 'Can't copy saw 3' has been updated, it has plenty of info on other products that people have had success with, thier more complicated than clone but they are doing the trick so far, just waiting for AnyDVD to update to crack saw3, so go to that thread and you'll get plenty of help.

herrick,
Sorry, RipIt4Me (RI4M) is very easy to use. Mort81 is dang good at doing backups so he's like EF Hutton. lol. Try this thread for a tut on using RI4M. arniebear is the man.

http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/360110

I would go ahead and try to uninstall and re-install. That may solve your problems for now. Sorry about the failing drive, that could cause some undue stress. lol. If you have any questions just hollar.

If you are using a transcoding program that has a built in ripping utility (clonedvd2, Nero recode2, DVD Shrink, etc), then there is nothing wrong with AnyDVD and it is probably the way to go. I have AnyDVD too.

If you are using more sophisticated software like dvd-rb/cce to encode and or dvdremake to edit like I use and an independant ripping utility is required, then I have found ripit4me to leave the cleanest folder over all other ripping utilities I have tried.

I always retain the menu especially on discs with a DTS soundtrack so I can select it over the Dolby 5.1 or 6.1. I generally keep some extras too and like the menu so I can navigate through them.
