hello guys,
for the sake of argument or whatever. I just want to know if those
ritek 05's are better then the value line.

the sale price on those od brand ritek does not come very often.
i think its the first time i seen it 100pk for 17.99. i really think
this is too hard to pass up. also the only problem with the value line is that its quality is incosisten ce.

In my personal opinion...No the Ritek are not better then the TYG02 / TYG03 in the value line...

Thanks guys, I really appreciate the help. I don't need anything top of the line, just a good DVD at a good price ... that's why I wondered about the Dynex/Ritek DVDs. If they're pretty close in quality, I'll probably go for those next time

Yujenh,
Ritek is considered second tier media
Taiyo Yuden is considered first tier media
so the Taiyo Yudens are better even if there the valueline

The RITEK R05 are decent media but as abcd pointed out they are 2nd tier media at best. I can tell you from experience that TY and VERB media "feel" better as far as quality goes and they perform better according to Nero CD/DVD Speed.

I'm with you Ripper. I haven't got the patience to wait for the Nero Speed test to finish. Seldom do them. if I can copy it; to me, it's a good disc and if it plays fine.
@beanbags Don't waste your money on the Dynex, Ritek is a tier above dynex. You can't beat TYs and then Verbs. JM2C

You need to take a really long walk off a VERY SHORT pier. hehehe. It should do you some good and remove that hint of jealousy cause you can't scan with your little LG drive. :P
Yep you're right we wouldn't have anything else to do if it weren't for scanning our discs with CD/DVD Speed. I thought about throwing a scan with K-Probe out there but I think to many people would loose it not knowing what it was. LOL.
BOT.....I still like the TY's and Verb's better than the RITEK's but what the heck less than $20 out the door is hard to beat for decent media. :P

you're the man. you pointed out exactly what i wanted to say. i know the quality is somewhat important and all the first tier and 2nd tier ranking stuff is important too. i'm just saying at price ritek is not a bad choice.

Pedrsonally I've never had a problem with Ritek/Office Depot home brand, have worked greqt for me as far as playability goes, don't scan any disks so a number is not important. I will praise the Sony brand of DVD-R disks, give outstanding results and the last scan I ever did was a 95 on my Lite-On burner.

I have other drives, I just choose to burn/do everything with this one - I'm awkward like that. Anyway, I'm with garmoon's feelings that's a tad pointless :-)
And K-Probe is only for liteons, no?

I don't think garmoon said that outright but I understand and I've said many times, "we do it mainly for fun". :) They do have there purpose but I DON'T hold them as the ultimate test. :P
And yes K-probe is for Litey's only. And yes I have a few of them. :P

I think the DVD+R RITEK R05 is decent media. I've ripped from it, scanned it, and burned about 10 pieces so far and NO coasters. :) I know nothing can be determined from a small sample like this but at least there's some feedback. ;)

I use OD Riteks and Ricohjpns to back up my daughter's dvds. They perform great. I use TYs and Verbs for mine.

I've been using RICOHJPNR0x media since I first started burning (even when I didn't have a clue) and those discs (RICOHJPNR01 - 4x media!) still play fine to this day.

To be honest I have CMC mags that will still play and copy. The early memorexes I bought, were TYs. Only a few were CMC mags. Lucky, cause I had no clue at the time.

i used to think the same about sony's (up to about a couple months ago) but i and a frew of my friends have run into problems with them, getting coasters on the top 5-15 or bottom 5-15 or even coasters from the top and bottom 10. and yes they code out as sony's. i dont buy them anymore and they have been added to my CRAP list. how unfortunate but frankly i dont react well to spindles that produce over 10% failure rate. YUK!!
however that is what started my interest in buying TY's, thats right docty you can thank sony for another person who swears by ty's ;)

Have you noticed the problem with the +R Sonys? All the +R Sony 8X media(MIJ) was made by TY. That changed with 16X Sonys. I haven't bought any of those and was just curious. I will buy the Verbs over the Sony 16X when I run out of 8X Sony TY T02s.

Ya know...I just burned the movie "Blood and Chocolate" and it has both ver. wide/full screen useally DVDClone2 picks the wide but this tiem it did not? any opinions...I know there a Clone t5hread but could not find it...LOL as long as Ive been on AD you would think Id know...just really never get out of the threads Im in LOL
