I've burned a few TY's and never had more than about 3% failure rate. I know for sure one was the disc and not my silly mistake so the actual failure rate with TY is very low for me. :)
From all the info that you've supplied I would look at the batch as a possible bad batch. It does happen altho very infrequently with TY. The only thing to consider at this point is a return but I don't know if Meritline would do anything this late in the game. You said you've used about 150? And yes Meritline is known for having quality media and the genuine stuff. :)
Have you looked at the discs with a magnifying glass or just simple visual inspection to see what they look like? That might answer something. You did well by supplying the "hub code" and I'm sure they MID as YUDEN T03-00 right?
Besides a possible bad batch I'm out of ideas at this point. ;)

due to the description you gave regarding the coating problem, i suspect that your most recent purchase of YUDEN000T03s are a faulty batch, they are in fact OLDER than your first batch purchased, perhaps they were "in the back" of Meritline's warehouse and they sent them out to you...
i don't know how recently you purchased this NEW set of 300 TYs, but if at all possible, i would explain the issues you are getting w/ Meritline's customer support dept. and go through the replacement process (if at all possible be it if 30 days have passed already or not?) i've never had to personally return/RMA anything to Meritline before, so i couldn't tell you how cooperative they are or are not, but being calm and polite while speaking on the phone with a representative will often times work wonders :) good luck

another option if you can't return them at this point is to order some more and use that receipt to return the older batch. also you would know for sure if it was a media problem or your drive/firmware/machine etc.

yea some of the ultra sexy verbs that creaky has all snatched up.lol
im redoing Norbit right now on a 16x verb. didnt want to waist a good ty for it. pretty bad i got them now and wont burn anything on them..lol

I'll admit TY's are some of best DVD media out there however I'm going through 400 Verbatim 4x white inkjet printable -R's because they are cheap. $22 per hundred through either Meritline or Supermediastore. Will keep using them until I can't get anymore then go back to TY at the 8x speed. Why not 16x yet? Well my burner & computer can handle them fine. I just prefer saving money on good media...

Welll the online stores seem to have 8x TY's for now. At least Meritline & Supermediastore do. Haven't checked Rima or anywhere else lately. 3 to 4 months down the road we should still have some TY 8x left. If so I'll get some as the 4x Verbs may be unavailable by then. If not then I'll buy TY 16x media. I don't need to burn a disc quick though which (besides the low price) is why I bought the Verb 4x media when my supply (what I had onhand) of 8x TY was running low. But to be perfectly honest I love TY media for both DVD & audio CDR use!!

Any thoughts on Ritek DL disks... the ones Ive used still work fine, but thought I would throw that out there anyways... I havent used them in years.

Hey bro. :) From what I've read the Ritek DL discs are #2 behind Verb DL's. I can't speak from experience but I know that hobbit uses DL discs and I think that aabbccdd has burned his fair share and they both recommend Verbs.

Thanks I was a wondering... have plenty of sigle layer disks, which I use 90% of the time but some of the good movies I want the whole thing...but then again NOTHING really good has came out- "Ghost rider" was OK [I love the comics2movies and Stan Lee] and still only gave it a OK...watched "Breached" and was not thrilled at all.

Yes but the TY Valueline (8X) your referring to is Silver Thermal Lacquer where as I prefer either white inkjet or silver inkjet printable. You can use a sharpie of these discs though....
Ritek +R DL? I burned a 25 pack with the latest Plextor 716-a firmware. They seem to play back fine on both layers however I'd still prefer to burn Verb +R DL's.

I tried Ritek and out of 25, I had 6 coasters. Not a good percentage in my book. The only reason I tried them was a major vendor (can't remember who, think it was Shop4Tech) had a supersale and was offering them at $17.00/25, shipped. So now at 89-1/2 cents each instead of 68 cents bottom line, it wasn't worth the trouble. That's 24% failure.
I still swear by Verbs.

I agree. Nothing but Verb DLs!
Edit: I use 2 internal BenQ 1650s and an external LG 2166. I have also not had any trouble with SL Ritek and Ricohjpn DVD+Rs tho.

I have had really good luck so far...years ago I burned w/ them and from time to time I run across a Ritek DL disk and it works great, but I havent used them in years...for that matter once in a great time I run across a TDK [I learned the hard way LOL] and it doesnt work, I have over a 1000s movie and have marked what they are to keep tabs on what is still working... I run dual monitors so at the time I first asked the question about Ritek I was on AD on one and SMS on the other and noticed Ritek and just wanted to get the scoop on how they are doing in others opinions and equip.- just like to keep up with the news so to speak...

I've used plenty of the Ritek stuff lately that I bought at Office Depot last year cheap. LOL. 75 DVD+R and 25 CD-R for $15, just couldn't pass it up for that price. I've had some of my lowest PIF's on this stuff and it plays and still scans just fine. I use Lite-On and Pioneer drives right now but did have 2 BenQ's until lately.
Some of my buddies on here scooped them up. :)
