@garmoon,
i think he might just have one stock up but never get to
use it because of all the px716 he's got. thats just my
little assumption.
well, there is almost no way you can find a dw1650 now days
except probably ebay. or if you look really hard, you might be
able to find one.

LOL
guess i'm not the ONLY one w/ "extra" Benq dw1650s...that sneaky greensman :) LOL
i churn out consistent 96 quality scores on Taiyo Yuden 8x DVD-R media, TYG02s, just for reference...and on occasion, my infamous 99 scores using YUDEN000T02s 8x DVD+R media on the Benq dw-1650 :)
all the Benq drives i've owned and currently use or have used in the past have performed VERY well with Taiyo Yuden media, i've been totally "out of it" lately and don't burn very many dvds at this point, but TYs are still the way to go for ME! hehe
urs truly.

hiya rob :)
good to see you will be trying out the YUDEN000T03s, i don't have that many of those myself, but from what i've used in the past...(on my OLD drives w/ no longer updated firmware LOL), they've performed quite well; being that you have the new Liteon's, i don't think you will have ANY problems with them knowing that you keep up to date on firmware~
good luck and let us know how they turn out...

@yujenh
thanks for the kind words, i'm sitting here at home on my day off from work waiting for a damn Chase Manhatten agent to come over so i can sign some paperwork on my home equity line of credit! lol...yes, completely OFF topic, but i'm no longer waiting...they are almost 4 hours late (if they even gonna come at all!...9am appointment, it's nearly 1pm here in Cali)
anyways, i've read of issues with the newer 18x and 20x drives with 8x media, but unfortunately, i don't currently have a "newer" drive to test this "problem" out with :( i've returned my SATA drives i ordered a month ago because 1. they sent me wrong drive, 2. another one was DOA right out of the box, despite me trying ALL my 8 SATA ports in trying to get it recognized...sheesh!
so, i'm basically just working with what i know and have a lot of experience with, my older optical drives that have performed well for me for all these years...there was a sale for the newest Liteon SATA drive@newegg.com i was considering, found here:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827106073
but then last minute i decided against it once i remembered my experiences with SATA burners not long ago and the problems (that i've read, not experienced) that 18x and 20x drives have w/ 8x media (which is weird to me since i primarily use ONLY 8x rated media in both DVD-R and DVD+R formats and i dont' want to deal with those problems until it's ironed out)
oh well, i'm still in the stone ages with optical drives, but TY media is still going strong!

thanks aabbccdd :)
i just looked at the Plextor site and found tentative release date:
Pricing and Availability
Plextor?s PX-810SA drive ships to distributors in North and South America in end of June 2007, with a Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $89.00 USD. All retail packages include one-year full warranty and unlimited toll-free technical support.
it's interesting that MSRP is less than $100, which going by past history of Plextor, indicates it's not one of their "premium" optical drives??? i don't know, i'll keep an eye on it and any reviews before i dive into one, thanks for letting me know.

OFF TOPIC!! hehehe.
Howdy docTY, good to see you posting. :) Hope all is well with you and your people showed up but I think I might look at someone different, you know me, I'm a richard. lol.
Nice scan on the TY media, looks like what I use to get with my BENQ's. I've completely switched over to 18X drives now. WEll that's NOT true, I have one 16X drive left in the newer build. Still loving this Pioneer DVR-112D. You should try one, they even have a SATA version just for you. :)
Have a nice day off and enjoy your day. :)
@creaky,
You're not an old fogy!! I could think of some other names but fogy doesn't come to mind. hehehe. Good to see you buddy. Visit more often. :)

I got the LG 42's 18x that are doing good burns on both Ty And Verbs don't care for the Light Scribe though.Worried that at the price of the Plextor that it'll be like the 750 that I wasn't happy with at all.I'll wait for your reviews on it. Sorry Creaky Chris

Don't you mean the Plextor 760? What did you not like about it? Thankfully my 716-A is still running strong.....

aabbccdd No I bought the PX 750A cause the reviews on the 760 wasn't looking that good but it performed like a Samsung poorly [rebadged maybe]. My 716's are going strong but their still the mothership.The 716 Sata was a 2 week long engagement.I've still got the Benq 1650's but the 1620 gave up the ship.I'd sure like to find a couple more 716's to have for backups.I'm beginning to believe their indestructible. Chris Edit was answering Bratcher but got in a tizzy by Adriana in Blue the 750 was an internal drive I bought in early part of 2006 it was cheap at that time by Plextors pricing.

i'd have to say that unless your going for speed that the benq's are better than the plextors. but im a speed man myself so plextors are better ;)
and as for lite-on, not all lite-ons are truely lite-on, they make oems
true lite-on's have always been my favorite, overall they just preform well

I'm a new member and this is my first post. I have burnt over 700 DVD's using Taiyo Yuden +R media. The TY quality has been excelent and I've only had about 5 coasters with more than 700 burns. I've used about 300 +R 8X and the rest were Taiyo Yuden 16X DVD+R Silver Thermal Lacquer discs.
A couple of months ago I bought 300 more Taiyo Yuden 16X DVD+R Silver Thermal Lacquer discs and I am now having a 25 to 30% failure rate. These are the same as the last 400 +R 16X discs that were so good. I've purchased all my discs from Meritline.com
I used DVD Identifier and these discs are identified as the same discs that work, T03-000. The only difference is the imprint on the disc itself. The discs that work have an imprint of TH001333 on the bottom of the center ring and 0102 on the top.
The discs that don't work have TH000034 below the center ring and 0501 above it. These were purchased at least 6 months later.
I still have about 30 of the older discs, so I tried them and they work fine. I burnt 20 of them with no coasters. I've tried them since burning about 40 coasters using half of the 300 new discs. I keep up-to-date firmware and the Lite-on burner still works with my older discs that are supposedly the same as the new ones.
The new discs seem to be real TY's from the info I gave above. They don't have problems at just the end of a movie but near the beginning as well. My son's in the military and I've backed up his nearly 700 movie selection so he can take the back-ups. About 200 were done recently with about 100 from the old discs, with no problems and 100 from the new discs with lots of coasters. He heads out on his third tour, this time to Iraq in September and I don't have time to watch all his movies to see if they are working.
Has anyone else had problems with TY's for recent purchases. It seems like a coating problem in their processing. I have a LiteOn, Emprex, and Sony burner and the same problems on each. I can't really count the Sony burner because at 10 times the price, it totally sucks.
Thanks for any help or any comments, Roger
