I would suggest you upgrade to a custom firwmare. It will be much more stable and feature rich. As far as custom firwmares go I currently recommend 3.03 OE-C. Your PSP screen is probably going all black because it is crashing trying to run the ISO.

1) To play games in .iso/.ciso formats you need to be at a homebrew compatible firmware. These firmwares would be firmware 1.5 and any of the custom fiwmares (Ex. A OE or M33 firmware). If not already at one of these firmwares you can downgrade back to firmware 1.5, if you have a firmware that is downgradeable. Post back with your PSP's firmware version and I will let you know if it is downgradeable.

2) I have a few games that all save to a default folder and I can see the save data for one game in the loading screen of another. So make sure that your not saving over it with another games save data.

3) Currently there is no virus for the PSP, but someone could create one but this is highly unlikely.

I got a simpler way for you. First format your memorycard from the PSP menu. Then run the program called 3.03 OE-C Easy Installer (click to download) while your PSP is in USB mode. After it has finished, and with your battery at at least 75% and your charger plugged in run the 3.03 OE-C Update from the GAME menu.

Your questions...

1) If on firmware 1.5 yes if on any custom or "OE" firmware then no.

2) Those games are essentially in a file like a zip file, they need to be extracted/unzipped. Instead of WinRar that costs money download IzArc it will work just as good and it is free.

3) I got to go now, but look on sites like http://www.psp-hacks.com and http://www.psp.qj.net they are both good sites for the PSP.

Hi guys,

Need some help here. Using 3.40 OE-A firmware. Have been putting my iso into the ISO folder in my PSP root. The problem is that most of them does not show in the Games>Memory stick.. Is this a problem of bad ISOs? I tried with about 8 ISOs/CSOs, my psp only shows 2 of them? Anyone can help on how i can play these ISOs?

thanks!

Bro Pea, about the ISO file,Im now on a 3.03 OE C PSP when I try to the load the ISO games now( e.g. Transformers n Steel Horizon ), it almost works but then says "the game could not be started. (80020148)". In recovery i change the kernel to 1.5 but it says same problem. I change back to 3.03 kernel.
Now what do I do?

Just to clear up this fact, playing ISO's does not depend on the homebrew kernel mode. The game transformers requires firmare 3.40 I believe. So to play it your are either going to have to update to 3.40 OE-A or to 3.51 M-33. Out of the two I would recommend you stick with 3.40 OE-A as it is more developed. There is nothing seriously wrong with the M-33 firmware but it is still a bit buggy.

Alright well the good news is you can downgrade your PSP without the need for a game! So for you to downgrade all we need to know is your motherboard type. As far as were concerned theres only 3 types. Type TA-79, TA-82, and TA-86. To find that out take a look at this picture below...

All we/I need to know is if your motherboard says IC1003 on the motherboard. Tell us this and we will post the appropriate downgrading guide.

@kate

First off do not post in all caps it is considered rude in the forums. I got no hurt feelings but just to let you know. Okay as far as custom firmware goes you need to either be at a downgradable firmware, firmare 1.5, or already at a OE or SE firmware. What firwmare are you currently at? As long as you give clear concise answers for all my questions we will have you at a custom firmware in no time :)

Alright your in luck! You will not need any UMD game to downgrade! First thing you have to do is update to firmwre 2.71. To do so first format your memorystick (safety precaution) and then download the 2.71 Firmware Update. Rename the 2.71 Update to EBOOT.PBP and then copy it to X:/PSP/GAME/UPDATE were X is your memorystick. Now with your charger plugged in and you battery fully charged update your PSP from the GAME Menu. After you are at 2.71 format your memory stick again. You are now ready to downgrade.

To begin with delete all the files and folders you already have from trying to downgrade and format your memory stick. I say this to ensure two things 1)that you don't get the files I instruct you to use and the ones you already have mixed up and 2) formatting the memorystick before a downgrade decreases your chance of bricking.

Okay to begin you will need the TA-082 2.71 Downgrade Files and the firmware 1.5 update files. Download links below...

TA-082 2.71 Downgrade Files
Firmware 1.5 Update

Now to prepare to downgrade...

1)1. Open the 2.71 TA-82 downloaded files and extract all files to the root (topmost/first folder) of the memory stick. As shown below...

2)Copy over the 1.5 update EBOOT.PBP renamed to UPDATE.PBP into X:\PSP\GAME\UPDATE\ Were X is the drive letter for your memory stick.

3)Now either terminate the USB connection or remove the memory card and insert it abck into your PSP. Start your PSP and run HEN D by going to the photo menu and entering the HEN D folder.

Note: For the next few steps make sure your battery is charged to at least 75% and your charger plugged in.

4)Go to the GAME menu and and run 1.50 enabler.

Read: The 1.5 enabler will tell you if you can run 1.5 or not. If it says you cannot, and that you must "press X to alter keys" then press X and don't continue until it says your settings will run 1.5

5)When the program exits back to the XMB run UPDATE X.YZ.

6)When your PSP has finished downgrading press X to restart your PSP.

7)When you turn your PSP on there will be a blue screen with a bunch of words and letters and what not. It will say to press O, so Press O.

8)Congradulations your now at firmware 1.5!

Also once downgraded to firmware 1.5 I presume you wish to upgrade to a custom firmware like 3.4O OE-A for example. So to help you out I have included links to download installers that make the install process for firmware 3.03 OE-C, 3.40 OE-A, and 1.5 Recovery mode easy as can be.

3.03 OE-C Easy Installer

3.40 OE-A Easy Installer

Firmware 1.5 Recovery Mode Easy Installer (Install this after getting to a custom firwmare, it will let you save your PSP from a brick)
