Yes it is true. What firmware are you currently at? As that determines wether or not you can play PSX games.

Well the iso's show up under the memorystick that is under the game menu. So if you enter your memory stick from the game menu and don't see anything than I would follow these steps. First, I would back up all the contents of your memorystick onto your PSP. Then format the memorystick twice from within the PSP. Now go into the recovery menu and make sure that No-UMD mode is enabled. After enabling that exit recovery mode and initiate a USB connection from the XMB, and place all your iso's in the ISO folder. You should now see them on your PSP's memorystick under the game menu.

To downgrade you are going to need a copy of the game Lumines. Once you get a hold of it the downgrading process is fairly simple. And a word of caution do no update your psp unless we say so, this will keep you from making your psp "undowngradable".

How do I put Final Fantasy 2 on my PSP? When I extracted the file(twice) it made a folder titled "PSP_Game". I looked in it and found know iso or cso file! This happened to me with Metal slug and Valkrie profile too.
Any help would be appreciated.

I am assuming that it is a PSX game. Those games will not be in iso or cso form. They will be in a file called a EBOOT, and they are always named "EBOOT.PBP" without the quotes. Now to play this file create a folder in your the game folder and name it Final Fantasy 2 and put the EBOOT.PBP in that folder. You should now be able to play it.
@katebella
Once you get Lumines let me know, I don't mind helping you and would rather help you and you successfully downgrade then have you brick your PSP.

Yeah I do. You will need a copy of Lumines, if you have one follow the guide I post below for Katebella. If you don't have Lumines get it.
@katebella
Well the guy at the game store was wrong GTA won't work. But you got Lumines so it is a moot point. Alrighty below is a guide to downgrade a 3.50 any motherboard PSP to firmware 1.5.
First thing is first we must get you to firmware 3.5 so we can start downgrading! Download the 3.5 firmware update from here.. Extract the file from the zip archive. Now rename the file to "UPDATE.PBP" without the quotes. In the GAME folder of your memorystick create a folder called UPDATE and put the UPDATE.PBP in there. Now with your battery charged to at least 80% and charger plugged in go to the game menu and run the 3.50 Update. After it is completed format your memorystick. Now just follow the guide that I have below....
Don't pay any attention to were it says "Don't Put Files in these folders". I made that pic for a different guide. If the downgrader says put the files in one of those folders then do it:)
For the entire duration of this guide have your PSP plugged in and at least at 80% battery life.
Files needed to downgrade:
3.50 Downgrading Files
Firmware 1.5 EBOOT
1) Format your memory-stick. After it has been formatted go into USB mode.
2) Unzip the 3.50 Downgrade files (350dg.zip). Copy the folder named PSP into the root of your memorystick.
Don't know what the root of your memory stick is? Check out the pic below...

3) Extract the firmware 1.5 eboot. Rename the file to UPDATE.PBP and copy it into the UPDATE folder within the GAME folder that is within the PSP folder. If needed create a folder called UPDATE.
Make sure not to overwrite the file named EBOOT.PBP
4) Now exit USB mode. Insert the Lumines UMD into your PSP's UMD drive. Load the game. When the game gets to the start screen press "start".
5) A "loading save game" screen should appear momentarily, the screen will then clear itself and should be filled with a light blue color. At this step the PSP should reset itself and be back at the XMB.
6)The last processed was suppose to haev initiated HEN. To make sure HEN is running go to System Settings and then System Information and ensure that the firmware reads as being at 3.50 HEN.
7) Assuming that it is showing up as 3.50 HEN you can now go to the game menu and run UPDATE X.YZ
8)Before the Downgrader does anything to your PSP it will ask for you to agree to what it is about to do. Hit either X to agree or the R trigger to exit.
9)Once you have agreed to start the downgrade do not remove the battery plug or unplug the PSP.
10)Once finished the PSP will ask you to "press X to resest", after pressing it should reset itself. (If it don't reset press O instead)
11)If a blue screen (BSOD) comes up saying that the settings are corrupt press X or O to continue. Then press either X or O.
12) Congrats your now at homebrew capable firmware 1.5!
Now I also assume you want to upgrade to the latest OE firmware. This process is incredibly simple. First format your memory card. Now put your PSP in USB mode. Then run the 3.40 OE-A Easy Installer.. Now exit from USB mode. Go to the game menu and run the 3.40 OE-A Updater.(It may not be named that exactly but it should be close). Press X to agree... When it's done you will be at custom firmware 3.40 OE-A!

Well some iso's need a UMD in the drive to work. This is a limitation of the OE firmwares. However in a new type of Custom firmware called 3.51 M-33 all iso's can be played without the need for a UMD. And wow US $150!! Thats insane!

In short, no. What you are attempting/desiring to do requires the user to be able to have a homebrew compatible firmware. This requires the ability to downgrade your PSP by use of a downgrader. The latest downgrader is only compatible with firmware 3.50, and as of yet there is no downgrader for firmwares above 3.50 so you won't be able to remotely play games.

Hi,
I'm a newbie here. Just like to ask some questions from regarding my PSP. I have a week only PSP and wanted to play some downloaded (iso/cvo) games with it but my dilemna is I don't know how to do it or where to startfor me to be able to play downloaded games. The firmware version I have is 3.522 and it is basically default on all specs as I have not tinkered it. Can someone possibly help me with the steps I have to do? I've tried reading some of the post here but I keep getting lost as I don't undestand much of it like the ISO Folder...do I have to create it or do I have to install a software for it to be created automatically? Emulators? I don't have any idea where to get it or how to install it. And lastly, if ever I modified my PSP already would I still be able to play conventionally...with UMD?
Thanks in advance!

These answers are going to be short and to the point as I' am going to bed :) .....
Quote: The firmware version I have is 3.522 and it is basically default on all specs as I have not tinkered it. Can someone possibly help me with the steps I have to do?
If at Sonys 3.52 you can't do anything you are asking to do but if at 3.52 M33 then you can.
Quote: I've tried reading some of the post here but I keep getting lost as I don't undestand much of it like the ISO Folder...do I have to create it or do I have to install a software for it to be created automatically?
If you have a iso playable firmware the folder should be their after formatting the memory stick from the psp XMB.
Quote: Emulators? I don't have any idea where to get it or how to install it.
We/I can help with that but it's a moot point if you are not at a custom firwmware like OE, M33, or LE.
Quote: And lastly, if ever I modified my PSP already would I still be able to play conventionally...with UMD?
Yes.
