If you have a corrupted data icon then the gpSP icon, you can get it to not show by going into recovery and enable "hide corrupt icons".

Upgrade to a higher custom firmware, either 3.40 OE-A (here is an autoinstaller (run it from your PC)), or 3.52 M33-4 (sorry, i don't have a link to an autoinstaller).

The PSP can only play certain video formats and the files have to be named a certain way. But going to a new custom firmware while it will not change the situation it will be a better firmware. So if you plan on going to a better custom firmware lets do that first and then I will explain about getting the PSP to play videos properly. Or if you want to stay at 2.71 SE then I can help you with the video problem now.

Sorry, i'm not really too knowledgable about the different resolutions and encoding, that's why i suggested the upgrade, because i'm guessing Sony introduced more recognised formats after 2.71.

After checking some sources, I confirmed what Shokz had said. With firmware below 3.30 you are limited to a resolution of 480x272, with the higher firmwares 720x480 is the resolution and it also supports bettter video compression formats.

But for the video question, what format are the videos in?

Then you should be already to go. First download a program called PSPVideo 9. After installion of PSPVideo 9 is complete, run the program and a across the top of the program Window select the "Settings" button. In the resulting window/tab select the "Converter" tab if not already select. In this window set the correct options for your PSP. After doing all of this and saving your settings again from the top menu select the "Convert" tab. In this window select your video file from the menu in the bottom screen, set the desired title for the movie, select the "profile" you created earlier for your PSP, and then hit "Convert". When it is all done you should have a PSP compliant video file in the newly created "Converted Videos" folder in your My Documents folder.

For gpSP? It's sort of built in, there is an option to enter a cheat in the menu. Although i don't use them so you'd have to ask someone else for more information.

Hello all, I just got my psp yesterday. And i wanted to play ISOs on it so i downgraded to 1.5 successfully. Now the problem is, where should i go now? I've tried several programs ranging from Devhook to UMDEmulate. And none have worked, most likely due to my inexperience, but any help on what to get, how to go about installing and using the ISO to play would be MUUCH appreciateD!!

@Lice

The best thing for you to do would be to install a custom firmware. There are 3 custom firmwares available 3.40 OE-A, 3.52 M33, and 3.40 LE. Personally I believe that OE/LE is the superior custom firmware but on the other hand with M33 firmwares every ISO you have is guarenteed to play. So research which one you would like, later on I will also post links to each. And if you should find one you like let me know and I will help you install it.

Hi there,
I am a complete PSP n00b usualy happy pwning at counter strike.. hehe
I have purchased a PSP which came complete with the latest official firmware (v3.52).
I have downloaded several ISO files and got a 2gb mem card. I have browsed many forums over the past few days but some of them are outdated or confusing.
What is lost or gained by installing custom firmware? Are there official custom firmware websites that are trusted by the PSP community? Is there a danger of messing up my PSP completely?

From what I have read... the 3.52 M33 firmware will play most if not all ISO files. What is the best way to downgrade from the latest version which I have? and what other bits and peices are required to get started.

Please dont patronise =) I wont need that much guidance.. just a kick in the right direction! thanks

If your so famous... why don't I know you?

Scratch best way, you have only one option - A Pandora battery ( http://www.noobz.eu/joomla/news/pandoras-battery.html ). It's designed to unbrick any PSP, but can also be used to downgrade functioning PSPs.

These sites can be trusted (There are others too): dl.qj.net, www.psp-hacks.com, www.calo-hacks.com

Custom firmware (EG: 3.52 M33-4 as opposed to 3.52) is so amazingly better you wouldn't really believe you could have possibly coped with an official firmware after you've tried it.

You can run ISOs and CSOs from memory stick, you can run homebrew (apps/games) and emulators for many older systems (GBA/N64/SNES etc). You can run any PS1 game from memory stick, you can rip UMD gmes to your memory stick or PC, you can totally customise you XMB and boot screens and more. (And obviously everything you can do with official firmware)

Finally, yes, you can "brick" your PSP, making it useless, but now there is the Pandora battery you can fix a bricked PSP.

(Next time don't post three times)

It'll downgrade your PSP to 1.50, which you can then upgrade to 3.52 M33. If you want a guide to upgrading to M33 just ask.
