And now comes the stupid questions.
What is a cross over cable?
Can I connect the dbox to my computer using an ethernet cable?
How the do I flash an image?
I've already downloaded the IFA assistant

ok crossover cable is a type of ethernet you need to buy in a comp shop it will say cross over on it. move the image over into a tmp folder on the dbox and go into update image in the service menu write one partition flash without bootloader.

Erm... I know I obviously sound like a divey on here but huh?
Hopefully this'll make more sense once I get the cross over cable because right now I can't put anything on the dbox and as for writing a partition "without bootloader" again huh?
But sure we live and learn

get a corssover and go to techno source and look at ifa guides or flashing guides on there

yeah I got a really good guide from techno source.
and got some warning in german even though I set it up as english.
Go fiure
I just hope the problem is the cross over cable.
This better pay off haha. Its wrecking my head

has anyone set up their dbox to decord through a dvd/hd recorder? I'm pretty sure it worked before but now i gat a "record is paused, current source is copy protected"
i did change form commando to sportster but didnt expect this...some channes are working though....tv3, spy movies (all of them)
is there a kindof macrovision looming?...

Can anyone tell me have they bought from this company,http://digisat.se/ and if so how did you find them to deal with.I'm Interested in buying the 500t and they seem to be the only ones that have them at the moment.

You need a newer image for recording via dvd recorder and scart.
In some older images the copy protection was set accidently.

Ok so, i'll give that a bash. Any suggestions? I'm using sportster 1.7 for uk, (from benifa) which i thought was lateish ( I have a sag 1*x)
Originally I used commando.
Still having trouble scanning for yourasport.

is anyone else getting a black screen on the high numbered movie channels over the last few days (I think it's just sky movies 9 & 10). proper NTL cable & using a sportster 1.5 image on a 2x dbox2.

Yes, the very same. I can't work it out. Re-scanned and got all the new names for S*y movies 1-8, but 9 & 10 are still called 9 & 10 - only the screen is blank..
I don't know why..

hello everbody
i am using sportster 1.75 on a nokia dbox,scanned my channels got only 130 compared to 141 what i used to get. my movies were blank but now they are back with their new names.i swapped the settings on the old service file i had for the channels i was missing so now i have a new service file with all the channels,with new names,working perfect in the tallaght area.
if anybody wants the file give me a shout ,hope i can help.
how do i post this file on the website

movies 9 and 10 are blank because there moved.sky is now renaming all the movie channle and there getting rid of 2 of them and they moved sky movies 9 to sky movies 6 or something and its called sky modern greats.go on to the sky movies website for more info.im hoping the box will update itself with the new names but it hasnt done it so far..

According to this website Movies 9 and 10 have ceased entirely..

I'm guessing Sky Movies 9+10 are now the new HD channels and as such the dbox2 cant decode them.

There is sure, but to decode HDTV would need different hardware completely. This just isn't possible on the dbox - at least, not with it's existing components it isn't (wink!)..

Its not possible to decode HDTV at a dbox2.
On the other hand there are not much subbed boxes out there which can handle HDTV. The content must be also offered via normal channels.
Nobody missed HD BBC in the past.

hey
I got myself the cable and I have connected up.
The comp sees the a network connection has been made but the IFA can't see the Dbox.
I've followed these instructions. Got any ideas?
I don't have a null modem cable but apparently it shouldn't matter
---------------------------------------------------------------------
First things first, Setting up the PC so that its ready to communicate with the Dbox
1. Open the Control Panel then go into Network Connections
2. You may have a few different connections so disable all of them with the exception of the
connection that you are going to use to communicate with the dbox.
3. Right click on the connection to be used and select "Properties"
4. If using Windows XP turn off the firewall by clicking on the "Advanced" tab, click "Settings"
under "windows firewall" then select "Off" then click "Ok" then click on the "general" tab
4b. If you are using another firewall then be sure to disable it or you won't be able to connect to
the Dbox. If you don't know how then stop here.
5. Double click on "internet protocol" to take you into the IP settings
6. Click "Use the following IP addess"
7. Type in 192.168.0.101 into the "IP address box
8. Type in 255.255.255.0 into the "Subnet mask" box if it is not automatically put in
9. Type in 192.168.0.1 into the "Default gateway" box
10. Click "OK" then "OK" again to save the settings
Ok so now that your PC is ready for flashing lets move onto:
Using IFA to Flash your Dbox2
1. Make sure your computer is set to the settings given in "First things first, Setting up the PC so
that its ready to communicate with the Dbox"
2. Open IFA at the welcome screen hit "next"
3. Select the Image you wish flashed onto the box by clicking "Scan" and selecting it
4. Select the Network Device you are using to connect to the Dbox. If you have followed my guide
correctly there should only be 1.
5. If you have a Nullmodem Cable you can connect it if you wish but it is not necessary. If you
have one select yes, if you don't select no. then click "start"
6. Turn on your Dbox at the mains. If you had it turned on turn it off (at the mains) then turn it
back on.
7. If you get lucky "flashing" will show on the Dbox screen. If after a few seconds it doesn't turn it
off at the mains.
8. The window should minimize so click on it to get it back. Select the "Settings" tab and change
the IP to 192.168.0.100
9. Click "Start"
10. Turn on your Dbox.
11. It should now come up flashing first time. If it doesn't try turning the dbox off then back on
again a few times. If it doesnt work after a dozen goes start from the beginning as it should really
work first time.

what are you guys talking about hd on 9 + 10?if you go to wikipedia it tells you exactly what channels were swapped.sky cinema 1 and 2 have been replaced with premiere and premiere +1.so basically the new films are now playing where sky cinema 1 and 2 were,so it freed up space and they moved all the channels back and are no longer showing the really old films.
I rang ntl about a month ago and the girl didnt even know what hd was and then she got back to me and said it would be out for about a year,so that aint it and when they do introduce hd on ntl Ireland dreambox will probably have released a hd box so all hope is not lost...

I heard sky used to broadcast with macrovision, my dvd recorder disables it.
eurosport was one of the 11 channels that didnt tune in for the last week or more. I posted the full list in this thread. It was a certain frequency that didnt come in. Contained MUTV, TCM eurosport, and 8 less popular channels & some radio stations. With the correct services file you could still get them. My nokias set at ucode 0014 would freeze up completely if watching these channels. Changed to 001A they were fine.
I did a rescan yesterday and both the nokia & sagem are picking up all 141 channels again. Commando froze a lot on me so I went back to sportster 1.7
I have saved a new image, with the renamed movies and other renamed channels and will send it to benifa tomorrow.
My mate has an altered pace box, I will ask him if he gets SM 9&10. The epg still comes on for them on the dbox.
They should really have 2 versions of the same channel.
Also since the channel rename I notice sky are showing 15 & 18 rated films during the day.
If you had a HDTV decoder can the output play on a regular non-HD TV?
