MAINMAN & Sc0user, thanks for the help last night. Now that my mate may have sobered up and re-gained his sight fully, i am going to ask him to plug in box and power up again. He is also going to send a pic of exactly what is displayed just do i know exactly what it says. Can i PM you the pic if i dont recognise what is says? Any help greatly appreciated.

No need, he powered it up and it said 8, so i assume channel, then went to standby. It sounds like it's working fine.

hi guys,
first time poster! I have a eurovox 2008 with no problems etc and are very happy with it...
but, ive recently bought a freeview box that i use in the uk while on biz, and have discovered that its the exact same chipset and spec as the eurovox. Anyway, a bit of googling suggests that i should be able to flash the box with the eurovox software and hopefully itll decode in the same manner.
however ive never flashed anything before and dont have a clue how to go about it, would someone please be able to send me the latest known stable eurovox software and the appropriate flashing program, possibly include some form of instruction on how i go about doing it? also is it possible for me to back up the current software thats installed on the box?
It goes without sayin that this is purely experimental and of course i wont hold anyones advice in disregard should the box end up dead or anything. basically it was inexpensive and i just feel like playing around with it, especially should i ever have to flash my actual eurovox.
Thanks in advance for the help and info, i will PM my email address to whoever can help. if its any relevance im on N*L dublin
Thanks!

Hi luckyirl:
Dont know if the idea will work but I suppose its worth a try !
1) u will need a 'null modem cable'
2) click the link for eko.4 under my post and hit eurovox, software and download 'UFL_Max_V_KURO_15_10_07.zip '
See how u get on

hi mainamn
in reply to your advice about checking to see if the box is a clone
"quick way of checking is to look at the top and on the bottom left see ( in between the slots) if there are any green modules ( any thing green)"
Do you mean can i see if the pcb is green or conponents on it
the only green i see through the slots are the pcb board and a small brown board. dont want to open it if i dont have to, once again thanks for all your help

thanks for the advice, do i also need to update the firmware as well as the software on the box?
what loading software should i use, and also have i got any way of backing up the current software already on the box? the box was inexpensive but i do travel quite a lot to the uk and it proves a god send in many hotels i dwell in with only bbc 1 and 2 via analog!!!

Here you go http://www.mediafire.com/?0mjmixx1mbd make sure you have a genuine box as this will kill a clone.

Interesting idea but even though the chipsets are the same the firmware is totally different as is the tuner and emulation so sorry to say it will not work.

You cannot receive ITV 2 and 3 in Ireland and 140 channel on N** in Dublin is your maximum amount of channels.

Yes but the firmware has a different setup (hex eeprom and emm codes) and your tsop (bios) chipset is totally different.Data sheets can be quite ambiguous. I am just giving you advice but you are in your own rights to experiment away.
