Hey everyone.
I burned a copy of GoW way back and only recently I found that it froze at Pandora's temple when I was about to enter. After reading a lot of posts here I see someone mentioned they burned the game onto a regular DVD9 (which is what I want to do) using some Toxic patch. I found that patch and was reading the instructions. It says something about this patch being able to let your PS2 play DVD9s with modded PS2s but it says nothing about the Swap Magic disc.
I Have SM3.3 with slide card and I was wondering if anyone can confirm that applying the toxic patch to GoW will make it work with the SW3.3 disc. I saw some people on here say they've burned the DVD9 and it worked, but have you people played the game all the way through? Does it freeze anywhere?
If this patch will allow me to play a DVD9 with the SM3.3 I will burn it this way. If this doesn't work I will just buy it. Thanks :)

You shouldn't be posting your E-mail! If forum members want to reply to you they can by clicking the little person on the right hand corner. To get CDVD gen go to http://www.backuptools.co.uk/ and go to the downloads section (though you must sign up as a member to download this (or any) program.

the toxic patch only works for certain chips not Swap Magic 3.3. i just recently copied this game and it plays flawless. Did u follow instructions on page 1 with all the updated tools? my game has been played all the way through with the metod on page 1.

I forget the way I copied my copy. I used a tutorial here that was from way back. It wasn't this one. I recently downloaded a copy where it was claimed to have been fixed. I found that this new copy does get past the entrance to Pandora's temple but the movies have all been downsampled so that he could fit the bonus content on it as well. Now what happened is that the audio is all out of sync in the cutscenes. I was watching the Making Of vidoe and the sound was off by 3-5 seconds.
Ah well. I have stopped playing this game for now and I plan on buying it when I can find it for a good price. Probably just pick it up used somewhere. I can't stand making a non-perfect copy of a game! That's why I wantde to used a DVD9 but I just don't understand how the modchip differs from the swapdisc in that the patch only works with certain chips.

Just completed GOW on my backed up copy, only had a bit of a stutter on one cut scene and a 2 mins or so loading time during a transition in cliffs of madness... no other faults whatsoever. Thanks again Jizmak for letting me know what bonus files I could delete...after that pretty straight forward to copy.

because u cant flash swap magic disk. its basically put on a disk and the mod chip reads the disk and changes the way the ps2 reads a DVD9. u cant do that with just a disk. i think the ppl who made the toxic patch r the makers of the mod chip. not sure so plz dont scream at me ppl. :)

IT'S ALIVE!!!
Successfully backed up GOW using SONIX's method, 3rd time was the charm. Played to whole game again to test the backup, took about 2 days. Backed up the entire game incl all video, bonus material etc. Works 100%.
Works on my old PS2 (3years old) with Messiah 2 chip. Backed up using a cheap no branch name 16x dvd5 blank. Amazing hey.
Thanks to all for the assistance!

So what your saying is that the toxic patch sends the instructions to the actual chip telling it to read the disk a certain way? In that case it wouldn't work with the disc because there is nothing to "hear" those instructions.
It's too bad it wouldn't send the instructions right to the original bios on the PS2. Oh well...I will just try and buy the game. Can't pirate everything I guess....we all have to buy a game sooner or later ;)

When you open the iso using apache 2, it'll tell you the order the files are in.
Hi all. Just popped in to check this thread out. Been busy with the GT4 thing and all. But with that now seemingly in hand I'd thought I'd lend a hand with any questions on GOW. I've started by putting all of sonix tools on my site at http://thefileforum.com (Look in the PS2 Backup section). No registration is required, although you're welcome to get involved if you wish. I'm partly doing this because Sonix has announced the imminent closure of his site.
I'm busy reading through the thread so it may take a while before I'm able to get round to answering questions.

this is what i got it it helps a few guys, i have PAL, i didnt get a scus file i got a SCES, i tried using apache with those two iml files from sonix tut but i kept getting the system aborting error, i went to cd/dvd gen and made my own iml file, i got 1 error and installed the other dll file to system 32 but i still got 1 error, i went on back to apache and used the iml file i just created and i didnt get an error and it started creating an iso file, it is currently doing it now, i will keep u updated if it works, i think the PAL ppl are getting the SCES? also if this works but freezes on the particular level, i have saved data on my memory card that i think is past that level will it go past it if i load from the mem card?
