Not for all 5.1 videos it doesn't.....this only works for the ones where you could change from 5.1 to 4.1 and get video playback without re-encodes.....
theres still some h264 5.1 videos that need to be re-encoded (i just tested....
besides, i dont see how we could all of a sudden get 5.1 profile playback without a firmware update???

So, if you're original file came with 4.1 changing it to 5.1 won't work? That's weird...oh well!

of course not all 5.1 videos will work, not all 4.1 videos worked, but it's not the x264 level that's stopping it anymore. chances are 5.1 playback has been there since the last update but because it wasn't announced we didn't notice.

Ok, dumb question: how can I tell if the video file or source is 4.1 or 5.1?

Well I got my mkv 720p movie working on my ps3. The conversion with MeGui works, but it took some time, over 14 hours.... Also is the movie quality after the conversion not that good anymore. How long would it take to converse a 1080p movie, 48 hours?
Is this the only way to get it working on PS3? Other 720p movies work right after the tsMuxer method, wich takes 6 minutes to get the job done.

Sometimes a movies doesn't need to be recoded, if it works after tsMuxeR than that is fine.

Not that good quality? You must be doing something wrong with the settings. What bitrate are you using?
In regards to the time MeGUI/x264 takes to encode, that depends largely on your system. My Quad Core can do a 90 minute 1080p encode in about 8 hours, the same duration in 720p takes about half that time. The time of your encodes would suggest to me that you are using a Dual Core... Am I right?

The bitrate I'am using is 25.
My laptop has a dual core processor running @ 1.66 Ghz.
Also I tried to load your "x264_dp__Ryu77_Blu-ray" profile in MeGui, but the Preset Importer screen remains empty. Is that normal?

Just for curiosity's sake, what IS the profile? I mean, is there a significant difference between 5.1 and 4.1? Between 4.1 and 4.0? I've been wondering what the video profile is since I've started this muxing stuff, but I've never bothered to ask.

Ok so i make a successful blueray convert of a mkv movie following the guide on afterdawn (with tsmuxer and all that). Now when I did the same procedure again with another movie, the video stuttered like crazy but the audio was fine. I followed the same steps as before. I can't figure out the problem.

It might be the fps. Is it 29.97 or 23.976?
My question is....how do you add chapters to 3 M2TS files in the AVCHD stream folder?

odin24 you sayed : if the movie needs subs or not, I process my movies as Ryu77 described in option 2 (tsMuxeR to output in Blu-ray format)
It works really well, if you are going to use MeGUI to harcode subs you might as well take the extra step, resize your video to a proper Blu-Ray size and import your subs so they are switchable (turn them on/off). At least now you can put a delay on the subs, whereas if you harcode them they have to be spot on perfect, or else you just ruined your movie.
1- how can i do this it by steps?
2- what programs i need with tsMuxeR?
3- how can i know my Bitrate movie and how can calculate it?
4- can i add arabic subtittle with tsMuxer?

So why is it that when you "Create Blu-ray disc" in TSMuxer, the PS3 can't read the folder that's created? It just doesn't see it when using TVersity. Will it see it if I transfer it to the HD?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the only way to get MKV subs working without re-encoding is to create a Blu-ray (BDMV folder), burn it to a BD-R or DVD and play it on the PS3, correct?

1. No, it won't. You need to burn the folder (or folders, I forget) onto a DVD in order for the PS3 to play it. Which answers the second question:
2. If I remember correctly, tsMuxer will only accept .srt or .sup subs, so you'd have to demux and change the subs first if they're not one of the two. But otherwise yes, Blu-Ray muxing is the way to go for switchable subs.
I've got a question (and I feel like it's been answered recently) - if I have episodes of a series that I want to put onto one DVD (because wasting 2-3 GB for each episode is just idiotic), I would use the Append function in tsMuxer, correct?

The bitrate can't be 25, unless you are talking about using a constant quantizer encode... ?
For my profile to be recognised, please make sure that you have the latest MeGUI and x264 builds. You will then need to place my profile into the "MeGUI\allprofiles\x264" directory.

Yes, that's right.

Correct...
That would be the only way unless you want to use a more professional solution like Sonic Scenarist etc. that will allow multiple titles, menus etc.
Using tsMuxeR, I would recommend working out the duration of each clip and making chapter points to allow you to select each title. For example...
Clip 1 = 35min 36sec
Clip 2 = 39min 12sec
Clip 3 = 32min 41sec
Chapters on tsMuxeR =
00:00:00.000
00:35:36.000
01:14:48.000
01:47:39.000

Thanks Ryu! That's exactly what I was trying to figure out. :) And I don't really know how to use Sonic Scenarist....can you help me create menus/chapters? I would really appreciate it!

Thanks, Ryu. That helps a lot. Uh, I asked this before, but just what is the profile thing? Like, why would something 5.1 have to be changed to 4.1 to be able to play on the PS3?

I read that PS3 plays 5.1 videos now, at least some of them. It doesn't play videos that have been switched to 5.1 from 4.1 though....or something like that. O_o Read the previous page. :)
Anyway, I tried to append 4 episodes to create AVCHD and it didn't work. :( There was no audio or video. Can't I just add the 4 episodes and click on create a Blu-ray disc? What does the append feature do exactly?
Oh, and the videos were all 720p (1280x720) and also AC3 but one episode had 6 channels, the rest had only 2 channels. Could that be the problem?

Thanks, but I'm not worried about 5.1 and 4.1. I'm just wondering what those profiles mean, that's all.
