arniebear, and if you notice the new Plextor PX-760A is running 109.00 at newegg and i payed 129.99 for the PX-716A so it looks like its def. priced right so you may be able to use that angle to get one lol. i will probably end up with one soon also and sell my Lite-On

The 1655 incorperates the lightscribe feature. I'm fairly sure that is the only difference. I've seen the 1655 for less than $50.

I believe that the DW1655 uses the same laser to write and to burn the label (I'm gonna look inside mine) ..
Probably the biggest difference, which accounts for the DW1655 being about $10 more than the DW1650, is the money that has to go to HP for every LightScribe? writer sold

.. believe it Fred, it's a fact ... I love both of mine and I plan to get another ... If you want one, get it right away as the last good model (the DW1640) disappeared pretty fast
The ONLY way, in my opinion, that you can get another burner that even comes close, is to purchase a Plextor for over $100

Yeah the BenQ DW 1650 looks pretty tempting. $35 on newegg, that's hard to beat. I may get a Plex instead, but the price difference is significant. I don't really need another burner, but sometimes it's good to want things to. :)

hello doc,
i think something is wrong with the verbatim link because when i click the buy now and it just went to the product info. it just wont let me buy it. i will try to buy it again little later. if anybody else buy it and have no problem with it let me know and i will try to find out whats wrong with my computer or internet or whatever.

Yeah, it does the same thing when I click buy. Kiv must have bought them out. I wanted to see what the shipping would be. I'm guessing around $9.00 where I live. That wound be $27.00 for 100 (27 cents per disc). I still made out pretty good on the 100 pk I got from newegg for $23 shipping included. Granted that is if I get the rebate check, but I've never had any problems with verbatim mail in rebates in the past and don't expect to.

what a relief man. i thought i did something silly or stupid to cause it to not let me buy it.
by the way, i tried to click on the 150 pack of TY cd-r for like 16.99 or something after the coupon code but it wont let me click it either. so i figure its probably something wrong with the website. maybe doc did something to it to prevent us from buying it (just kidding).

hello aabbccdd,
would you be kinda and generous to tell us what speed you end up recieveing with those 4x. some lucky people even recieve the 16x. i am just too afraid to end up with 300 4x. i still got almost 200 4x verbatim mcc002 need to be used up. it just take too long to burn at 4x.

Yujenh , they will end up being the TYGO2s 8x speed the TYGO1s have basically been dropped from the market ,i havent got any TYGO3s 16x all TYGO2s in the last 4 or 5 months from supermediastore.com ,heres the link

Just picked up 16x -R TYs at my local Staples under the Sony brand name. $10 per 50-pack with a coupon. Best deal on the planet. Here are the simple rules I follow for quality media:
Sony, Fuji, or Maxell brand media that is Made in Japan
Verbatim brand media that is made in Taiwan or Singapore
Taiyo Yuden media stored in cakeboxes and purchased from Rima or SuperMediaStore

Just checked my local Sam's Club. They have Yuden000T02 on sale for $25 for 75 discs, a 50 and and a 25 spindle packaged together. I don't have a membership there as yet, but I will buy all future Yuden000T02's there. That's a great deal. That beats SMS.coms 200 Yuden000T02's for $87 and free shipping. I could get 225 discs for $80 or so.

hi boys,
apparently the Verbatim 8x DVD+R 50packs are sold out from the link i posted...i was just browsing very early yesterday after the daylight savings time change so at that time they were still available~ :) sorry for the confusion...seems like ALL the media in their clearance section are no longer available...
i'll let ya all know what happens and what i actually receive when i get them, if i get them at all~ :P

PERSONALLY, if it were me, i would much rather take the 4x TYG01s over the 16x TYG03s, i'm biased here as i was not pleased with the early batches of TYG03s, and i've stated in another thread that Taiyo Yuden have since improved upon the quality of them...but the fact i do not order from online retailers anymore for Taiyo Yuden media should say something about what i do or do not know about what supermediastore ships to customers these days. aabbccdd is probably the most reliable person to ask in regards to WHAT you actually receive when you order the tape-shrink wrapped spindles these days...if he's gotten all TYG02s (8x dvd-r) within the last few months, chances are YOU will get the TYG02s also... :)
my last order in bulk from supermediastore for the TY dvd-rs awhile ago, i got TYG03s, while in the description PRESENT DAY, they list the media ID coding as TYG02, so you will probably receive those upon ordering...
as i mentioned on the last page, before they had "TYG01/TYG02/TYG03" as the possible MID coding a few months ago, i have noticed the change to "TYG02" recently when aabbccdd posted up the link again...i WILL say this, from PERSONAL experience, the 16x rated TYG03s are NOT BETTER than the 4x rated TYG01s or the 8x rated TYG02s; i would gladly take the TYG01s/TYG02s over the TYG03s if given the choice... :)
