Ummm... I have no idea how your PS3 is reading any media from a NTFS formatted hard drive in the first place. The PS3 can only read from external media formatted with FAT32. Your file is showing as corrupted because one of the streams is not compatible with the PS3. This thread has detailed answers that cover almost every scenario. If you can't find the answer, please post more details of the media file you are trying to play on the PS3 and we'll be happy to help. :-D

Not at all. For example, if the original aspect ratio was 16:9 and you changed it to 1:1, the picture would be stretched vertically because what was a widescreen video is now being squeezed into a square picture.

Ok, I ran my downloaded clip of an MKV file with DTS audio through MKV Extract GUI & saved the two files to a different folder than the original. I ran the raw H264 video file through H264info and changed my level to 4.1. I saved that file into a different folder. I loaded the DTS file that I made from MKV Extract GUI and the new H264 file that I made with H264info into TSMUXER and made my new M2TS file. I loaded it onto my Ipod and tried to play this sample through my PS3, I got video but not audio. Why? I do not get what I'm supposed to do to get my audio. I want to run this whole movie through TSREMUX and burn to a DL-DVD to play on PS3, but I'm not gonna try it until I can get it work from my Ipod. Thx for any help

Recode the audio to Dolby (AC3) and all will be good. You can use EAC3toGUI to do this. Here's the link... http://www.digital-digest.com/software/EAC3toGUI.html. For this appication to work, you will also need to install Sonic HD-DVD decoder. I could only find that via torrent. Here... http://torrentz.ws/torrent/445962/Sonic-...pirateuropa-com
An alternate method would be to use Foobar2000. I have found that although Foobar produces a very good quality Dolby track, it also crashes sometimes. Here is a guide for DTS to AC3 with Foobar2000... http://schudy.de/dts/dts2ac3-e.htm

I haven't been able to get the EAC3toGUI to convert my DTS file to AC3. It's giving me errors. Maybe I just don't know how to use it. Is there a guide to explain just how to use EAC3toGUI? I tried using Foobar2000 as well, but I've been unsuccessful so far. Thanks for all your help!! You're a life saver!

I have been looking for a tool like this for a long time. I have been dedicating a lot of my time (almost all of it) to working with HD video variations and PS3 compatibility.
Previously the best tool I could find to convert mkv containing AVC/h264 to a ps3 compatible file is mkv2vob but it has it's limitations. These are...
1) Only supports dolby digital (ac3) audio.
2) Fast forward or rewind doesn't work (EDIT: This has been fixed now with a new version).
I have now found an application better than mkv2vob for creating PS3 compatible files. This application is tsMuxeR by smartlabs. It was released on the 25/01/08 on the doom9 forum and progress is steaming along! It has come very far in just a few days. So far, this is what it offers...
Supported output formats:
- TS
- M2TS
Supported video codecs:
- H.264
- VC-1
- MPEG2
Supported audio codecs:
- AAC
- AC3 / E-AC3(DD+)
- Dolby True HD (for streams with AC3 core only)
- DTS/ DTS-HD
Supported containers and formats:
- elementary stream
- Transport stream TS and M2TS
- Program stream EVO/VOB/MPG
- Matroska MKV/MKA
Additional features currently implemented:
* Ability to set muxing fps manually and automatically
* Ability to change level for H.264 streams
* Ability to shift a sound tracks
* Ability to extract DTS core from DTS-HD
* Ability to extract AC3 core from Dolby True HD
* Ability to join files.
At this point the only bug I can see that would hinder PS3 compatibility is the profile level changer. In tsMuxeR v1.2.6 it seems to mess this up. If you need to change the h264 profile level to 4.1 (this level is needed for PS3 compatibility) then use h264info.
I just tested it and output a m2ts file (h264/ac3), originally sourced from a mkv file. I dropped the file onto my iPod, plugged it into the USB on my PS3 and it plays perfectly. Fast forward/rewind... It's all good! Ohhh yes! :-D
If you want to take this one step further, you can use another app called tsremux to import the m2ts file and export blu-ray file structure. Then use Nero to burn a UDF DVD data disc (you need to manually change the UDF level to 2.5)... There you have a AVCHD disc, 100% playable on the PS3!
Note: It seems tsMuxeR will be implementing blu-ray output in the near future! :-D
Ok, I wont hold off anymore... Here's a download link for tsMuxeR...
http://www.smlabs.net/tsMuxer/tsMuxeR_1.2.9.zip
NOTE: That I am referring to 2 different applications here. Most of the post was about tsMuxeR, towards the end I mentioned tsremux. I just wanted to point that out as they both have almost the same name. Well... It confused me a little... :-P

REferman: EAC3GUI is really picky for me too. I don't know what error you are getting exactly but I found that the path to the file you are trying to convert is important. I usually put the file directly into my C: drive (C:\filename.dts) then try to use the program. All of my files have worked perfectly after that. You also have to make sure that you have the sonic decoder Ryu77 talked about. Good luck!

Not yet canuckerz, the author of tsMuxeR has listed subtitle support in his to do list. However, it seems he has taken a holiday and hasn't shown up on the Doom9 forum since he updated to version 1.2.9. I have tried various other ways to create a file with a switchable subtitle. The closest I got was creating a VOB file with a switchable subtitle, it showed up as an option in the subtitle selection but the words didn't show on the screen. :-( The only way I can think of for now is to hardcode them into the video stream.

Hm, I don't have a problem with permanently fusing them with the video so long as I don't lose quality. What is a good program that I could do that with?

i got this guide to convert dts to any other format from http://www.moviex.info . It was made by a member of the rls group called NhaNc3 so all the credit goes to him.
Quote: :!: Note:
This one actually does a conversion from a dts to 6ch ogg!
You can convert it to wav,ac3 or mp3 from ogg! laugh.gif
Softwares Required:
VLC
oggdropXPd
besweet(optional)
foobar(optional)
Procedure:
Launch the VLC Media Player. Click Open File.
Load the .dts file but DONT CLICK 'OK'
 Click browse and load the DTS file. Select stream/save option and now click on settings tab.
In Encapsulation method... SELECT OGG! Checkbox file and give the output filename.(which is there at the top)
Well the stream output filename has been selected. Now Tick Audio Codec select flac, Bitrate 512, Channel 6! Now Press OK twice till you reach the main window. Now click "play" and after it finishes you'l find the output flac in your specified directory with your specified filename.
Now You've got a flac file in OGG Container. Drag it on oggdropXPd and you'll get an ogg vorbis 6ch output! at -q 2.00 (which is the default one. You can change the setting though!) . Now the quality will be almost same as source (at high bitrates).
You can now convert the vorbis stream or the former flac stream to any format . AAC/MP4 or Lame-MP3 or AC3 .. Using BeSweet or Foobar!
// I have seen many other conversions which very very hectic . Like it needed the shareware WinDVD compulsorily for Azidts.exe :x .. Now You dont need that one! 8) // laugh.gif

Hey guys all the MKV files that I've downloaded so far say they are 1080p, yet the resolution is 1920:800p. I thought that 1080p was 1920×1080. I haven't gotten so far as to actually burn one to a disk yet, but can't wait to try!
Mjstriker, thanks for the info. And the error that I was getting with EAC3GUI did look like a directory error to me. I bet you just solved my problem. I haven't tried it yet b/c what I'm working on right now came with AC3 audio.
Thanks!

I would be guessing that you have a video that has an aspect ratio of 2.35:1, is that right?
The MKV file that you referred to has simply had the black borders removed, therefore the result is less pixels on the vertical resolution.

Young1298, I am really sorry that I didn't get around to answer your question. I did see the 3 posts of the same question... I just kept getting side tracked.
It sounds to me like you have an incompatible video stream. It is likely playing for a few seconds until it hits a part in the video that is not compatible. It is possible that you may need to re-encode. I have mentioned that process a little earlier in the thread. Also, Sudds posted a guide from digital digest... http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/629603

The procedure I am referring to means you will need to re-encode the video. You will need to create a video stream with the subtitles "burnt in". Now some quality loss may occur as we are working with lossy codecs. However, if done right and you're patient enough then you should be able to do this without any visually perceivable quality loss.
I guided moddep through this procedure earlier. Here is a link to jump to that part in this thread... http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_jump.cfm/621809/3770978
To hardcode the subs you will need to use AVIsynth and use the VSfilter plug-in to superimpose the subtitles over the video. You can then recode with any application you like.

Hello again sukhvail. :-D
Thank you for taking the time to post that guide here. I just read through it. It seems that to convert from DTS to AC3 with that method would require a double recode DTS-->OGG-->AC3. The methods I listed earlier are a direct DTS-->AC3 conversion. I personally don't like the idea of re-encoding twice because of the obvious quality loss issues. The guide does claim that the quality will almost be as good as the source. Do we want to re-encode with a source audio file "almost" as good as the original?... I know I don't.
PS: Please excuse my triple post :-P. I just like to answer each person on a separate post. That way no information gets mixed up. young1298 and canuckerz, I have replied to your posts up there ^^.

Ok, just finished my first blu ray disk. I split a 8.3g mkv file with mkvmerge. I extracted both halves with mkvextract. I ran both h264 video files through h264.info and changed the level to 4.1. The audio was AC3, so I didn't have to use aec3togui. I ran both video and audio from each half of my movie through tsmuxer and created a m2ts file. I then ran both my m2ts files through tsremux and burned a UDF DVD-ROM disk using Nero 8.0 after changing the UDF level to 2.5. I burned onto a double sided DVD-R. It plays in my PS3, I have 5.1 surround sound, but something else that I have is a big green line across the bottom (like where the bottom letterbox black line would be. The top is black like normal, but the bottom is bright neon green. It's pretty distracting. Anyone else had problems with this, if not, any ideas on what's causing it? Also, I noticed that if I skip chapters or fast forward, the disk will stop reading, but as long as I don't do that, it plays fine.
Thanks!!

Hi Ryu77, I've formatted my 250G external hdd as FAT32. I've kept several m2ts video in my PS3 hard disk. The size of each video is about the size as D5 DVD. However, as I copy any one of this video from PS3 to my new 250G FAT32 external harddisk, I've got error message on screen "An error occurred during the copy operation". Can you please kindly advise what should i do?
