i got the video file working, and it plays fine on the ps3, however....
i can not seem to copy it to the ps3 hdd, every time i try it i get an error message come up, i am going to play it thru from the disc in a minute and see if there is a fault somewhere in the video that is causing this, but if anyone has any ideas then iwould love to hear them.
i have also tried using Red Kawa File Server to transfer it from my PC to my ps3, but it juct says "incert storage media".

If you can stream, Cyberlink Media Deluxe is byfar the best. Usinf a disc... pop it in, highlight the DVD-cisc in the video section of the xmb, press triangle, then copy. If it's m2ts it'll copy.

ok, well here is to outcome, so far.
i left it playing thru, at 1.5 speed, and got an error message half way thru, only problem is i wasnt watching it do didnt see just when the error was.
i have however converted 2 hdtv episodes using this method and they both worked fine, all the way thru, so i am guessing i have had a cock-up somewhere in the process with the film.
going to have a go at sorting it out and i'll burn it again 2moz, luck i had just bought a load of new dual layer discs really, i have burnt 3 discs that dont work already, at least they're only £4 for 10, ha ha ha, i love cheap media!

Does anyone know of a program that can repair a damaged movie. None of the programs listed in this thread will work with the latest mkv movie I downloaded.

just another quick question before i start burning again.....
do i REALLY have to burn these files to a UDF disc or can i just use a normal data disc, i know it isnt that much trouble making a UDF but it would be easier to just run nero express!

The file size limit on a regular data disc (ISO file system) is 2gb, so if your movie file is bigger than that, then you must use the UDF file system.

i dont really understand that.
i have been converting my mkv files to mpeg2 files and burning them as normal data discs onto dual layer disc for ages, each files is well over 6gb and they all work fine, so why does this file type make any difference?
i am in no way doubting ur wisdom in the slightest, u have got me what i wanted, and i am going to direct a lot of people to this thread for help too, i just dont get the difference!
again, i wanna say that u for all ur help!!!!!

It is mentioned earlier in this thread, use EAC3toGUI.
1. Open your source DTS audio.
2. Select your bitrate, 640 kb/s should be fine.
3. Use "Force Filter" Libav.
4. Convert!

I was playing arond with an MKV file. I extracted the raw H264 and then ran it thru H264info changing the level to 4.1. It was taking a long time then computer crashed so when I rebooted I was looking at the tsmuxer and it had an option to change the level to 4.1. Does anyone know if that will work just ectract audio and raw h264 and the tsmuxer and change the level there skipping h264info?
I would try it but i do not have my ps3 setup yet, I am still finishing my home theater and was just trying to get a head start on creating movies that will play on the ps3

thanks RYU,
i totally missed that when reading thru the thread. I have tried twice to use H264 and both times it crashed about 3 quarters the way thru the process(ofcourse I was doing other things on the PC when H264 was running. I will try it again and not do anything else.)
I have had problems with my PC and vista crashing when running other conversion applications like CONVERTX2DVD. I may switch back to XP if it continues.

I'm running Vista and following this thread without issues. I suggest stick to only what you need for conversion programs to avoid conflictions between them.

Hello everybody! I recently Dl'ed several LARGE WMV's (>8gig a piece) files that are purported to be 1080P versions of a certain sci-fi saga. I want to be able to play them back on my PS3 via the Blu-Ray drive. How do I go about converting these hi-def WMV's to a format that the PS3 will recognize? I have combed through this thread in its entirety and did not see any mention of what to do with WMV's..... however, it is possible that this has been covered here or elsewhere (my apologies if this is the case). Any help or feedback would be muchly appreciated.

i tried this steps
1) Open up the mkv file in MKV Extract GUI (you will need to download MKV Extract GUI and MKV toolnix
2) Extract the streams using MKV Extract GUI
3) Run the raw h264 through h264info tool and change profile level to 4.1
4) Load the NEW h264 file and the ac3 file into tsMuxeR, save it as m2ts
but the m3ts is larger than 4 gb is 5.93 and i read this size cant play it by external hdd
what should i do now ?
i use HDBDSplitGUI and is become 2 file 1 is 4.29 and 2 is 2.6
is that good or i should make another option?
i think by useing h264info tool and change profile level to 4.1
it will be the size 4 gb
i want my movie 1 file and 4gb but how i do that? to play it in my external hdd

I would split as close to possible to half... I recommend setting 3gb as your split point.
Another option would be to burn it onto a dual layer DVD. That way you can keep it as a single file and play it all the way through on your PS3.
The only other option to make it smaller than 4gb is re-encode it. This will reduce quality so that isn't advisable.

Just wanted to make a post about a recent achievement that may help somebody...
As this thread clearly shows I have been converting Matroska (mkv) files to be compatible with the PS3. I decided recently that I would like to make a regular DVD version of these movies too.
This presented me a big hurdle! Since I live in Australia, the video standard is PAL here. So, as all Blu-ray sourced Matroska encodes are at 23.976 progressive. I needed to speed up the video slightly to keep it progressive and keep it all running smooth. This is also the method the professional production studios use when producing PAL DVD discs. You will notice that the PAL versions of the same movie are usually a few minutes shorter in length (about 5 minutes for a 2 hour movie). Some video encoding applications convert NTSC to PAL by simply inserting duplicate frames. While this works it makes the video not run as smooth as it should be. I could manage to do the video part correctly quite easy but the audio had me stumped for quite some time. I needed to speed up the audio while keeping all the dynamics intact at the same time. I tried quite a few applications and methods but after many failed attempts I finally found an answer...
I used AVIsynth with the following script:
loadplugin("D:\AVI synth plugins\NicAudio.dll")
Video=DirectShowSource("D:\Video.mkv")
Audio=NicDTSSource("D:\DTS Audio.dts")
audiodub(video,audio)
AssumeFPS(25,sync_audio=true)
SSRC(48000,false)
AddBorders(0,132,0,132)
LanczosResize(720,576)
I then used MeGUI to convert my 1hr55min (23.976fps) DTS track to a 1hr50min (25fps) Dolby AC3 track.
This method can also work for PAL-->NTSC conversion. Just change the number in AssumeFPS from 25 to 23.976 and resize to 720 x 480 instead of 720 x 576.
Note: The mkv video file loaded in the AVIsynth script is a repacked Matroska file with only a video stream.
I hope this can help somebody if they get stuck doing something similar. :-D

Ryu,
I'm having trouble with EAC3toGUI. I'm trying to convert a 768 kb/s DTS track to 640 kb/s AC3 track. But I get the error message; "The system cannot find the path specified".

i had this problem too.
u have to download EAC3to first, extrack the zip file into c:\ then put EAC3toGUI into the c:\ too, should run fine then.

Funny thing, I just figured it out. I already had the app, but I wasn't specifying it's location in the GUI.
Thanks though.

Does anybody know how to sync a 23.976 fps video to a 29.97 fps DVD audio track. I'd like to keep the 23.976 progressive video rate.
Thanks,

Thanks,
Odin, you do not need to adjust the audio track for this conversion. If you are converting a PAL video (25fps progressive) to NTSC (23.976fps progressive) then you need to slowdown the audio slightly, or vice versa for NTSC to PAL. You can either use the method I posted above to do this or use EAC3to with the -speedup command (23.976fps to 25fps speedup) or the -slowdown command (25fps to 23.976fps slowdown).
When converting these two types of material, this is needed to keep the frame rate all running smooth as they are both progressive material.
The conversion that you want to do is 29.97 (pulldown material) to 23.976 (progressive) material. Both of these would run at the same duration, there is no speed adjustment necessary. The audio and video duration should be exactly the same for both. If you are facing sync problems then it because of something else, not the frame rate.

My sync issues are a gradual sync problem. Good at the start, off towards the end.
