Hey everyone, so I've combed through the threads here and all over the net....I don't see in plain view simple ways to backup a game, disc to disc. I'm talking about popping in the original disc in a DVD ROM drive, and simply burning it to a blank DVDR+DL disc in my writer drive. I have found ways of downloading games via the net and using a program just fine for that, but can't seem to find a simple disc to disc solution.....downloading games is too slow for my taste. Any ideas? Thanks!

Hi hope someone can help me. I am new to burning games. I just bought a Samsung SE-S084 and am using cheapo Memorex disks(yeah, I know everyone says not to, but the guy /i have been getting games from uses them and has no problem). I am trying to burn XBOX 360 games and keep getting errors. I am using Imgburn and doing everything in this tutorial. Keeps telling me "set l0 data zone capacity failed reason the semaphore timeout period has expired". So what am I doing wrong? I am trying to burn them from my external hard drive, if that makes any difference. Here is the log from ImgBurn

I did a bit of reading on that error and it seems to be a communication error between your external HDD and your burner. Try making a copy of the ISO on your main drive and burning from there.

Could be a permissions issue with the folders. Doesn't really matter I guess if the workaround works out for you.

Check this out, too:

Hi,

A semaphore timeout occurs when your drive loses communication with the rest of your system. There are two things I'd suggest trying first:

1) Make sure your ASPI layer is in good order. ForceASPI is a great one. Post back if you need help installing it.

2) Ensure DMA is enabled for your drives. Here's a link:

I don't know if it matters, but I just successfully burned a regular cd-r of music using ImgBurn and from my desktop, which is where I had the game I was trying to burn. Does that tell me it's just the cheap discs I'm trying to use?

I read about several other people also being able to burn CDRs, but not DVDRs, so that sounds about par for the course.

Try logging on as Administrator and seeing if that fixes it.

I didn't do a whole lot of digging, but it seems like people just ended up replacing their burner a lot of the time =\

You may want to try seeing if there is an updated firmware for your burner before going so far, though.

Firmware was my first step. Hope I can return this. Anyone got any good suggestions for good and cheap external burners?

My advice would be to get a regular internal desktop burner with decent reviews and put it into an external casing, rather than buy an "external" burner.

Please excuse my ignorance, but would that work with a lap top?

Yep, sure would. As long as the external case had a USB port. I've got the same type of external casing for an internal SATA hard drive.

Here's a list of results from NewEgg:

Cool, thanks. I'll ship this Samsung back to Amazon and try it that way. Should probably order some Taiyo Yudens while I'm at it.

It's too bad it gave you issues. Laptop burners are notorious for problems with burning, however. Even if it wasn't a laptop burner, I imagine any 'slim' burner is prone to the same problems.

Better luck with your next one.

Taiyo Yuden does not make DVD+R DLs. Go for Verbatims Made in Singapore.

I know I have seen a lot about how to tell if they are good Verbatims, but how can I tell when ordering from Newegg? Or is there another place I can get guaranteed good discs from?

You just have to get lucky if you buy it online, I guess.

I have read about some really great deals going on at Sam's Club. $60 for 50 of them and such.

Here's a list of results from NewEgg:

Cool, thanks. I'll ship this Samsung back to Amazon and try it that way. Should probably order some Taiyo Yudens while I'm at it.
Taiyo Yuden does not make DVD+R DLs. Go for Verbatims Made in Singapore.

In the tutorial I did not say to check the verify box.

The only verify tool you should use is your 360.

I ran this iso through abgx360 and it came out fine, burned the disc which came out fine, but the Xbox reads it as a cd for some reason. I have burned a couple of other discs with different iso's and I get a dirty disc error on both of them. I have played another game burned by someone else before, is it a problem with my burner?

The only game I have ever played was Sega Tennis or whatever its called and that was used to test that it worked. It was at the persons house that flashed the xbox for me. Since it was someone else who did it I really have no way to check which version I have but I have the Hitachi drive.

I am an idiot and this guide has worked for me for XBOX 360 games. Now I want Ninja Gaiden and Elder Scrolls: Morrowind. Can I burn these the same way as for XBOX 360?

(I just got a Microsoft HDD so I can play compatible games).

Is there a topic somewhere on burning XBOX games for the XBOX 360?

Meanwhile I am buying the XBOX game from an Amazon seller for $8 which includes shipping.

It is going to take a while for Ninja Gaiden to complete. Maybe by then someone will post a link or say how to do it.
