You set the book type in Nero. I set it to DVD-ROM.
I have asked Steve the question of what book type he used and I am still awaiting a response.
Sorry I can't provide anyone with default.xex since that would break copyright and is illegal.
I am doing this because I find tinkering fun and I do not wanna get on the wrong side of MS. Even if it works I'll still be buying the games since otherwise it spoils the experience.

steddyman,
Not every burner supports changing of BookType. You might want to check http://www.booktypefaq.com/ to verify your burner supports the changing of booktype.

is the King Kong's default.xex and Full Auto's default.xex
crypted?
when possible can use for a test when have game backup of king kong or Full Auto, then put into King King demo folder the backup and use the default.xex of the King Kong Demo!
I dont know if this work!
but possible or?
Playable demos:

I bought a system because I love games. I also love tinkering.
You can buy copies of the UK mag on eBay. Just search for it, here is an example:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Official-XBOX-360-Magazine-Issue-2-BOXED_W0...
Do bare in mind that nobody other than Steve has this working so there is no guarantee it will be of any use (it is a good mag).
I think all the demo files are encrypted, but none of this matters if we can't get the disk to boot in the first place.

The Pioneer 109 will automatically book type +R DL to DVD-ROM. It will not do this with single layer DVDs unless you use the Buffalo firmware. The latest version is 8.57 and you can get it at http://www.rpc1.org . The 8.57 firmware is the same as the stock 1.57 except that it enables bit setting for SL DVDs. They have an 8.58 listed, but it is for external units only.

In the US issue #53 with Full Auto on the cover has a demo disc that states "One disc works in both Xbox 360 and Xbox" It has King Kong,Full Auto and Kameo demos. I bought it today,if anyone is interested in trying it out,as I dont have my 360 yet. Might work might not,if it even works at all **shrugs**

Just a quick update to let you all know this isn't dead yet.
I am awaiting something in the post from Steve but it has been caught up in the Christmas post and delayed a couple of days.

Hmmm... so Steve is still trying to "prove" he is not a liar. It's hard to believe that anything is going to come out of this at this point, but I will still stay subscribed to this thread and stay tuned. My roomate just got an X360 (NTSC) the other night, but unfortunately he left home with it for xmas break :(. No testing for me.
Even if the just the demo were to run (which isn't exactly unreasonable), I'd be happy. I don't expect the game backups to work as I don't really understand how they could. Hey, if the demo disc would work, it would be the first backup of anything to run on an XBOX 360. That would be an accomplishment in itself.
Finally, if what you are doing doesn't work, have steve mail you a copy of his burned demo disc. If he really got something working, I am sure he would be more than willing to send his burned copy of the demo disc in the mail.... On the other hand, if he didn't get anything working, I am sure he will not put the effort into sending the disc. That would prove this thing once and for all.
Also, Something to note

Steve's burner might automatically book type his DL discs to DVD-ROM. I would check to see if your burner supports bitsetting. If it doesn't there might be certain software and/or firmware to change the book type to DVD-ROM. Keep me posted.

It looks like I misread (or rather misinterpreted) your post. Stupid of me. So Steve is sending you a disc in the mail? Is that what the last post was about. Sorry for my misunderstanding.

does anyone know which recorder steve used?
I tryed a different brand of DVD-RW to try
and make a 2nd copy of the 'uk demo disc'
which I found would not load or bootup
in my xbox1 unlike the 1st copy I made.
I recorded it again on another disc
from this 'not working brand'
and I had the same not
loading or bootup problem.
although all recordings were from
the same iso, using the same recorder and
recorded with the same Nero 6 software.
Just the disc brand not disc type changed.
so maybe the media brand is the key.

I agree,
we do need more info on this...
1) we need to know the exact DVD recorder
2) we need to know the exact DVD blank disc
3) we need to know the exact file placement
keep in mind that sometimes 1 or 2 elements
can go wrong when burning a disc with so many
restrictions.
keep posting and maybe we will find the answer
