I have looked everywhere and can not find the answer to this question. Please help. I have a version 1 and would like to backup my games, and movies to play on my PS2. I like the fliptop, but I have heard swap magic and DVD-R does not work with Version 1. Any help?

as far as i know, you should have no trouble with the -R. i think it's the +R's that the earlier versions have trouble with. someone please correct me if i'm wrong on this.

So I will be OK with a TDK DVD -/+ R/RW burner and a Fliptop with Swap Magic. Where is a reliable store to get the Fliptop and Swap Magic?

Isn't FlipTop a no-solder um... thing?

if you can play original imports using a no-solder chip why would not with FlipTop?

I've read somewhere, in another forum that some guy played the original jap GT3 (DVD) & Kengo (CD) imports using the FlipTop and everything was ok.

All that the Flip Top Cover does is lets you put in a backup without having to use the Front eject button. Every time you put in a backup using the eject button the system wants to check if it is a original disc. The no-solder mod chip takes control of the eject button and fools the system, so it does not know it was used.

So as you can see, it is the Swap Magic Discs that determines what games you can play or not. You will be able to play more when version 3 comes out.

You can get the Flip Top Covers and Swap Magic Discs or No-Solder-Mod Chips at http://wwww.fliptopcover.com

Alright, I've searched high and low, and I know this is probably the wrong thread to be posting this on, but here it goes. Will I be able to use dvd-rw on a ps7 with a fliptop? Any and all help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

TIA,

i honestly dont know if you can play NTSC on a PAL ps2. I mean you can order the NTSC swap discs and then it may work for you but i have never tried and really have no way of testing that either :( sry
Let's put it another way: are there people out there who managed to get a flip-top/swap magic combo working with another viewing system as they have themselves? For example: if you have an NTSC PS2, can you play (sharereactor) PAL backups? If this works it should work vice versa. Right?

I have some pictures that show how to install a no solder mod chip. You can use those to find the place on the motherboard to put the eject/reset cable. Some models plug right in and some have a lid you have to flip up. I beleive the blue side should be up so that the connectors are tuching the contacts on the bottom of the ribbon cable socket.

Go here: http://www.saveware.com/p1040.htm

Check for version 4, it seems to have better graphics for the ribbon cable. The other one is for version 5, 6, 7 but that one showes 2 ribbon cables, it is the one on the right side.

Also if anybody is interested I have started a forum at http://www.infomodzone.com/forums

Not much there yet as it just started but we could use moderators. Not up to speed yet like afterdawn.com but afterdawn is my favorite forum site :)

The same thing happened to me. Basically what you have to do is take of the bottm cover off by unscrewing all the screws to the left of the a cd drive. After you take off the bottom cover you should be able to insert the ribbon in the empty socket (which is located beneith the cd drive on the far right side of your ps2). You should probably use needle nose pliers to put it in because it's pretty hard to do by hand. The process may be different with different versions; I have a Version 5. I hope this helps I'm sure the link provided by stingray5 will.

Hmmm...seems like everyone just skipped over my post or didn't think it was a valid post so, I'll ask again. Does anyone know if a v7 with a fliptop and swap magic will read dvd-rw?

Well after doing some reading........some more reading and I finally topped it off with reading, I have come to conclude that this flip top cover mod will be the best for me.

One question guys about the PS2 console. Sony only gives a 90 days manufacturer's warranty correct? After that they won't replace the system at all?

Now I just have to get rid of this 2 year warranty I purchased by accident lol...... I completely forgot I was going to mod the thing!

Well I'll be waiting for the reply thanks

Yeah, I think I paid somewhere in the ballpark of 40 bucks for mine too. Now to just wait for the new swap magic discs (Zone Loader) so I can backup Splinter Cell and the few others that don't work with a v7.

I don't know if I shoud post this here but you guys seem to know a bit about fliptops and swap magic discs.

Have any of you been able to get a back up of Socom working. Mine boots but it is in black and white. I can get all the rest of my back ups to work. I have a version 3 PS2 with a fliptop lid and swap magic discs. If any of you have got the PAL Socom US Navy Seals back up to work on a PAL PS2 please tell me how you did it, what sort of DVD media, what program and at what speed.

Thanks for any help

Hey Dills, ever figure out that cd loader thing? Has anybody, or is the solution we just have to wait for the next swap magic?
