But it had the holograms.
And look at this: http://wiikey.cn/images/installWiiKey.pdf
If you turn that 180 degrees it looks the same.

Nope, take a closer look at yours. With yours the way it is, it reads: 01B
If you flipped it 180 degrees, the B would be backwards, and the 1 would be upside down.
Note that, from all the info here, a clone should still work, it just won't accept the newer updates from what I understand.
I just wanted to make you aware that that one is a clone.

About to jump on the Update train... I've read the last 30 pages of this forum, plus several others. This thread is the best however.

Want to play SMG and SSBB.

Me: Wii, NTSC, Wiikey, 1.2 on the Wiikey, 3.0U on Wii

I've download all sorts of files, and have everything I need.
I have created a 1.9s disk, and ran successfully though TEST... but did not yet pull the trigger on the real upgrade.

Question:

Do I have to go to 1.9g first? Or can I go straight through from my current 1.2 to 1.9s?

I assume I upgrade Wiikey Firmware first, then I upgrade Wii firmware.
I believe I have a NTSC SMG, and could use it for the Wii firmware upgrade, or I supposed I could download it off the net from the Wii.
Which should I do? (I see mention of some people with broken Wii internet capability, but do not know their circumstances).

Please advice soon as possible. Itching to pull the trigger.

I assume most if not all the current backups I have will survive and continue to play?...

thanks!!

Oh yeah, one other question: There was a preliminary Config 1.4 US version floating around here (I think it was here). I know the official website does not yet have it listed...

Is this prelim okay to use? or Keep away until the real deal?

Also, I am assuming that for my previous post above, I will not need the Config disk (but will eventually in order to turn region off, and perhaps block on-game updates)

thanks!

1) Update your Wiikey first

2) Then update your console

3) leaked Config 1.4 works fine. (The only problems so far have been that the 6x speed setting does not work and the Audiofix for GC games does not wor unless you switch Dev Mode. We hope that the final version will fix those issues. Also, it looks that even tough it's not present on the Config 1.4, it is still possible to dump to SD using the Config 1.2)

Rafa,

Can I go from Wiikey 1.2 straight up to 1.9s (skipping 1.9b or g) ?

Can I take the update for the Wii via the Internet connection? Or should I use SMG I have (should be NTSC)

thanks

See my previous posts just above...

Results:

Went from WiiKey 1.2 straight to 1.9x (or is it 1.9s?... it shows 1.9x with the monkey-see/do/hear figures). In other words, I did NOT have to first upgrade to some prior 1.9 version (b, or g)... went from 1.2 to 1.9x. This is (I believe) a firmware erase+write process, so this is what I expected.

Loaded SMG, grabbed update off of it. Went fine.

After SMG update, went into Wii Settings and it STILL reported 3.0U... thought that was strange, as I was expecting it to report 3.1. Went into Internet connections, and did a Wii Firmware update via that... net result: Wii Settings now reports 3.2

Played SMG for 10 minutes, up to first galaxy warp, or whatever it is.
Saved.

Burned SSBB using ImgBurn 2.4.0.0, Sony DVD+R DL, at 2.4x. No layer break tweak.

Inserted into Wii, did the additional update it wanted, went on to play the game just fine.

Conclusion: It was smooth when I set this Wiikey up months ago, and it was smooth today... Thankfully so. I've read about various problems others have had, and can't offer any explanations.

Hope this helps to others.

Thanks to Raja for the quick answers (though not all the questions were answered ;) Now they are...).

Actually they were (Short and to the point :-) ) .. and you did it right.

Wiikey firmware updates are not cumulative or incremental. A firmware update replaces the whole enchilada (Overwrites all bits of info with new ones), therefore there never is any need to go though a series of updates.

As for all the problems we see posted, I have written a post about it, one or two pages earlier.

As I said the Wiikey team has done, once again, a great Job.

Thank you for posting your experience here!

Hi,

I'm going to update my wiikey to 1.9s, and I have successfully filechopped both the update and config discs, but after burning onto a verbatim dvd-r with Imgburn at 4x, (which went successfully), the disc reads as having 36.8Mb on it.

Is this meant to happen, or is something wrong?

Thanks for helping : )

Original has 1 upsidedown and the b looks like 8. So it's a real one and it had the hologram.

Hey guys, I'm having some problems with my wii and the latest firmware. I recently updated my wii and now it doesnt read any burned dvds anymore. It still reads the originals but everything else cant be read. I have one of the earliest wii's in the Netherlands, tried different types of burning tools( nero, imgbrn, wiiUI ) and different types of DVDs ( Platinum, phillips ) all dvd-r, I have a wiikey updated to 1.9g and before this I've had no problems what so ever. Now I burned PES but before I tried to play I update the wii firmware via the configurations channel.

I used filechopped images, non filechopped images, old games and new games but nothing seems to work anymore. Not even the 1.9s update or 1.3 config disc..

- early batch wii
- Different types of DVDs burned at 4x speed
- Different burning tools
- 1.9g wiikey
- doenst read any burned DVDs
- Updated via configurations channel
- Havent tried super smash yet.

If any of you have any idea on how to fix this I would really like to hear it.

thx in advance.

Rafa et. al.

Questions on the Config disk (1.4) and trying to run a PAL game on my NTSC Wii:

1) In the Wii Config menu, does Region Override = ON mean I can play NTSC and PAL? Or does "ON" mean I can only play NTSC? I am guessing that Region Override = OFF would allow me to play a PAL game. Correct? I should set it to OFF in order to pay PAL...

2) Getting the Config setting to "stick": I went in to Config, Region Override was set to "ON", I switched it to OFF, didn't do the "reset Console", just turned the Wii off. Went back into Config, and it was set back to "ON". Second attempt: switched it to OFF, then scrolled down and selected Reset Console. Went back in, and into Config and it was ON aagain?!

Question: What is the key-by-key procedure to change a value in the Config and have it persist? Also, does the new setting remain after a power cycle of the Wii?

3) Burning a PAL game: Downloaded a game that ends in .wii extension. Found somewhere this unscrambler.exe that is supposed to convert the .wii to a .iso so it can be burned on a standard DVDR. Tried this process twice, but the Disk is never recognized by the Wii. (Perhaps the problem is in my Config, as per the questions above)

thanks!!

Questions on the Config disk (1.4) and trying to run a PAL game on my NTSC Wii:
1) Region override ON enables you to play any thing - Pal or NTSC USA/JAP - if it's off it will only play what your console is supposed to play - PAL if you have a PAL Wii or NTSC USA if you have that and NTSC JAP if you have that.

2) The config doesn't tell you what the settings of the Wii are - It boots up with default settings for you to change and save. When it's done don't try using the disk to find out if it's saved, in other words, cos it won't tell you. This is in the readme that comes with the config.

3) That is a media and/or burner software/settings problem. I recommend Verbatim DVD-R @4x using imgburn.

Continuing the questions from my above post:

1) Okay, I get it. Question: Once I set Region Override = ON, do I then just reset the machine using that menu selection? Or perhaps I hit the reset button on the Wii? Or just hit the Power button? Which do I do next?

3) The .wii file is too large. Won't burn on Nero or ImgBurn. I read somewhere you had to run a process on it before buring it. I though unscramble.exe was it. Any ideas? BTW, I know the media I use, and my Burner, are all good.

1. Save and reset.

3. unscrambler - I've used it once but I just googled this...

http://www.teamxmods.com/using-nero-to-b...s-on-dvd-media/

Google is sometimes faster m8 ;)

Also when you say you know the media is good you... you can't be 100% sure until you see it burn everything and what you've done up till now doesn't necessarily benchmark it for everything. eg. I thought that after using one type of media (Ritek) for the 1st 10 burns I was onto a winner until I got coaster after coaster with one game no matter what. And now and again for testing games I'm not bothered about keeping I still use that media cos I might as well if I'm gonna bin it later. But there's been about 3 that it won't work with at all so far. Verbatim DVD-R always worked for me so far and the day summat won't I'll be swapping to another type...

Burn a GCOS version of the Config disc and try to Change the region override setting to ON GCOS discs run in Gamecube mode and you should be albe to run them that way.

If that does not work try the hacked Config disc.

If that does not work either, then run the Recovery disc.

Gottlieb Pinball

Comes down as a .wii. Ran unscramble on it, then burn on Verbatim DVD-r at 4x, finalize, just like anything else. Wouldn't work. Black Error message telling me to shutdown Wii.

Mine is a NTSC, and I had went in and ran REGION OVERRIDE = ON, and saved and reset.

1.9s and 1.4 config.

Did this process twice.

Any ideas?
