That's because uLaunchELF tries to save the CNF configuration file to the CD, which is impossible because the PlayStation 2 can read discs, not burn data to them. And, MC0 in uLaunchELF is Slot 1, Slot 2 is MC1, for some weird reason.

ive recently had some energy to research what possibility's my slim ps2 can do so ive googled and i came across this forum (which has been very interesting)
but i have a few questions i would like to ask.
first of all. do i have to use action reply for the media player or can i use others like xploder? i do have a xploder disk V5.
and does the USB memory stick have to be a actual USB pen or can i use say a MP3 player with USB?
if any one could help me with these matters you can add me on msn at daniel_chapman@ntlworld.com
thanks
i do have more questions but those can wait untill i learn more about these methods.

Sabar, first off, remove your e-mail address, a moderator can get you in trouble for doing so(it's against the rules). Second, I haven't personally tried with xPloder, but if you could test it, it could probably be used in the guide. Third, the USB Memory Stick is the actuall stick, not an MP3 player or anything like that.

@Ace_2:
d00d.....u farking found the new 1ndependence exploit for slimline!! Raaarrrr awesome! now more ppl need to spread this around, and get the files on the Net so other PS2 gamers know about this. Over @PS2nfo.com I made a post with what you said from AD. Guess what happened?
They banned me.
Idiots! They try to act all 3l337 but they don't know squat. They claimed the ind expl~ was dead, but u found a way around the slim's anti-USB programming. So for anyone wanting to run homebrew apps, i suggest you go to some of the sites that had all the FAT PS2 stuff & start d/l'ing. Because now, everything the FAT could do, the slim can do. Just a little mod to add an external HDD and there you go.
Awesome work Ace_2, congrats & props

Oh, my God, I never thought it would have come to this. I'm "The One". Unbelievable, xHardc0re, help me out to spread the word about this. And the anti-USB programming is actually bypassed by Action Replay MAX and uLaunchELF, and I can confirm is, as now, I'm using a new USB Memory Stick, and the protection is bypassed(good thing I chose the right programs... ;)).
Dude, those guys don't even know what they're talking about. I just found a new one, maybe they think we're just saying garbage to make ourselves feel important. That's a no-no. If you could link the post, I'd like to see what they said over there. Other than that, we should try to search for other places to report this. You know what, those guys should first test the exploit on their own slims, if they have any(with a lid MOD, of course) before blasting something out at you.
Okay, now this has nothing to do with the topic, but is an HL-DT-ST burner an LG brand burner?

For the fat PlayStation 2, you can just create a save to put on your Memory Card with a TITLE.DB in it using MAX Memory so that you can use a PlayStation(1) disc to boot it. You just need the Independece Exploit guide. On top of that, if you have a Network Adapter and a hard drive, you can run HD Loader off of your Memory Card as an ELF and play your games off the hard drive.

Wow, I have to say I'm impressed this thread stayed alive for so long. Also suprised that Ace is still active! I never go an Afterdawn anymore, just got bored one day and decided to see if it was still around. Great job everyone, I'd be glad to lend a helping hand as well if you need it. USB Stick method FTW!!! ^^

Another newbie question? I know it's probably in this thread but I couldn't find it. Using Ace's method do you still have to use something like a flip-top??
Thanks!

You must use any kind of modification that will allow you to swap discs while the slim's lid sensors are still activated(which gives the PlayStation 2 a signal that the lid is closed). I have a free MOD that will allow that to be possible, so spare the money buying a flip-top lid. Link in sig(Cardboard and Straw MOD).

Ace_2 how do I save the CNF? When I am done says CNF saving failed or something along those lines. I above that it tries to save it to CD, is something I have to do to change path of where it saves?
Also for those people that need
Max Media Player you can download for free off the Action Replay Site

I had problems with this too. Yeah, the problem does lie within it trying to save to the CD.
What I did was change the IP Address settings for the network, and then it automatically saved to the memory card. Don't know why, but it did.
It comes up at a 5kb corrupted bit of data after that, but atleast from then on it can save your settings.

Thanks Ace!
Working very well, i am loading CD LOADER through a pendrive with AR MAX, then swap it with my exploit disc, then load cogswap and swap again! Even SNES Station is working properly! One tip: You only have to cover up the laser shown in the picture, then you can open it - but not too far!
You'll get this space to swap:
_______________________________
_______________________________
Just hold your thumb under the tray when swapping, grab the cd with your left hand and try to slide it out. When you succeed, put in your other cd (backup, or exploit) and position it on the holder thingy. Then, carefully push it in the holder with your hand and close the tray. Done! It should work now!
BTW: I am using Slimeline 75004

Another tip to add to that: when I was using that method before I made up the Cardboard and Straw MOD, I had opened the lid up to the point just before the lid sensor in the back was deactivated, then stuck a cardboard clamp with some tape to prevent the lid from popping up too high and not to use my hands to hold the lid. It's a much tougher method, but it works nonetheless.

Erm... will those methods work if I use CodeBreaker instead of ARMAX?

You can use CodeBreaker to put your Cog-Swap ELF on the Memory Card as a CodeBreaker save, but that's about it. If you own a Version 14(SCPH-75001) or Version 15(SCPH-77001), that thing's useless, as it cannot get around Sony's USB Memory Stick lockout(the Action Replay MAX, though, can get around it).

In other word... Codebreaker is a no no, I gotta use ARMAX?
Would my PNY Technologies USB memory stick be useable? In a post I saw something about "licensed" USB memory device... and I guess Imma use ARMAX instead
EDIT:
The link to the PS2 Exploit Utility is down, where else can I get it?

hmmm, this make me wondering whether if I can't burn a dvd rom to a cd-r xD ... cuz I been have a problem with it. The same thing happened when I burn them at maximum speed, 24x, or 16x. It didn't have color and the screen is like move up and down constantly. I would go for 12x but Alcohol 120% didn't give me that option
