tiachop- That's because the game is coded in the PAL video standard. It doesn't function the same way as NTSC, more notably the refresh rate, which is 50hz in PAL and 60hz in NTSC. That's why it rolls all the time. To fix that, you can get a PAL to NTSC patcher(Google it).
pchaubal- Just a correction to your version, a Version 15 was never released before the SCPH-77001(THAT'S a Version 15). Unfortunately, it's impossible just to boot things without any kind of special method.

I used adrpatcher to convert PAL to NTSC. I browsed to the image file, and for the Patch section, I chose the PS2 PAL -> NTSC PATCH ROUTINE (NO Y POS) option. It found me a patch and the image file was patched successfully. The thing is though, when I burned it and used it on my ps2 slim, the same thing would still happen. There was no color and the screen kinda moved up and down. I burned it at 24x btw. And when I burned it at 16x, it just spinned a bit and stopped. Any other suggestions? Btw, the game is Phantom Brave and I burn it on TDK brand CD-R

Is your game a DVD based game? If so, you cannot burn it to a CD-R. You MUST use the same media as the game was pressed on, either CD(blue base) or DVD(silver base).

Ya... ;~; , I guess I will burn it on DVD-R instead. Well, I have an original Ps2 DVD Disc but it's like 1.47 GB (I thought when u meant silver, it was TOC but now I guess u meant silver-based as DVD, thus now I'm not sure whether it is TOC) and I needa buy a bigger size one (4.37 GB.) I found a list on this site but it was outdated so they were old games, and I dunno where to buy old game. Also, I have DVD-R, it was TDK brand and I wonder if it's a good brand for the slim, since all I heard was, Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim and Sony. I woulda buy the other brand on rima.com, but I have no experience of buying online whatsoever. That made of think of the security.
Btw, do I have to swap discs everytime I play? Is there another shortcut? o.o
Also, wouldn't the guide be better off if u had link to a guide of how to cover the micro sensor before the listing of the methods? O~O

If you don't have a chip, you'll have to swap every time you play a backup, there's no work-around for that. As for TDK, its success rate is questionable, because most of the time I see that they don't work properly. My advice: stick to Taiyo Yuden. I use Maxell CD-R Pro for CD backups and Sony 8X "Made in Japan" DVD+Rs(both containing Taiyo Yuden dye), and they always work. As for TOC, it's the size of the game(in GB).

Well, I just tried TDK and it did work. Soon enough I will go buy Taiyo Yuden online (once I know shopping online and security enuf)
Btw, what game would be 4.37 GB that's currently at Bestbuy? O.o
I don't mind getting a chip but the downside is that I have no soldering skill whatsoever T.T ... then it's pointless getting it. (it also kinda made me wish I had paid more attention to the guides about soldering modchip) xD
But before I do, I have a minor question, are those chips compatible with ARMAX memory card?

I have a DMS4 SE Lite soldered in my PlayStation 2 and I use a 64MB MAX Memory MC, and it works perfect. As for the soldering, you can get a professional to solder it in for you, although, I'm not exactly sure how much that will cost.

Well, I guess I will do it myself, or ask my dad to help. I been interested in mechanic anyway. Plus they got manual on mod-chip.com. Let's hope it wouldn't be hard, or at least I hope so. But, I'm gonna do it after I cleaned a adware and a trojan off my comp first

If you're running games off of a disc, you need to DNAS patch your game(search for DNAS in the forums(old search), you should find the NTSC and PAL DNAS IDs for those specific games(no Japanese DNAS IDs)). If you're running games off of an external hard drive, there's no way to fix that.

Well Good try but thats not what im trying to do. Im trying to use Code Majic. To use code majic I need to boot the Elf file. I found out that I need to need to use a ps1 disc, or like in your guide, use a high TOC DVD. The problem is that I dont know when to put the ps1 or dvd in, because I have Swap magic playing to boot the elf. Once you open the elf file, you use your comp to start the game, so you switch from the swap magic to your game.

I was thinking... isn't there a simpler way of doing this on a slimline ps2? I was thinking of the way you could play PS1 backups, by using the bug in the ps2. Is there any ELF launcher for the PSX?

da1stun- Okay, now I don't know what you're trying to do. But I think you got it all wrong. You're using Swap Magic CODER? You know you can just swap your backup straight with Swap Magic? You don't even need this guide if you already have Swap Magic.
sunburstX- The bug from the fat PlayStation 2 has been eliminated in the slim, so there's no workaround all the swapping left and right. I tried to do it myself on my Version 14, and it just boots the game(with a delay). I had Grand Theft Auto's SLUS in a TITLE.DB file, and when I'd put it in the console, it does exactly that. You're out of luck. Sorry.

Well, thats not exactly what I ment. I know of this method, but i would use the other bug. Swapping the disc in the browser, and then clicking the black disc. It works fine for back-ups, but if there is a ELF launcher for the PSX, we could use that way to boot CogSwap. It is not the method with the TITLE.DB file.

Oh, now I see where you're going with this. No, there is no Cog-Swap for the PlayStation. In fact, that was only made for PlayStation 2 backups, so it will not work with PlayStation games. Speaking of which, one member here had made an ELF named PSX Launcher, which I presume can load PlayStation backups. I have yet to test it. I'll inform you when I do(in about 5 minutes).
EDIT: It works. I'll link a guide I'm about to edit(it was from this website, don't remember which one, now I'm going to make my own using this ELF).
EDIT 2: Here's the link: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/341229#2000489
This only works on PlayStation 2s Version 9 to 15.

Hey Guys! Happy New Year!
I figured I'd start this year off by modding my PS2. What I want to do is do a softmod to my chubby original PS2 (it's not a slim). I've been reading forum posts for weeks trying to understand how this all works. All I ever see is stuff about slim PS2 consoles.
Does anyone have a link to a tut or some advice on how I could softmod my chubby PS2? I'd like to be able to boot disc images off my external USB HDD if possible.
Thanks in advance!

Oj so I decided to try and install the exploit. I made my title db with the disc Id for NFL Gameday 99. I transfered the exploit to the mem card but the rigger disc wont load, my screen just stays blue as gameday spins.

FYI to anyone using Ace's excellent exploit for the slim. You can bypass the need to hardmod (soldered in chip) your system & use Ace's guide or buy a swap magic. I've been a swap magic user from the beginning & never turn back. Still have about 3-4 mos to go on the 2yr extended warranty. Might take the chance to turn my v12 in, about the same time V16/V17 comes out. But I'll make sure to download every single save file (yup, all 200+ games) from the Codebreaker site & burn them to a CDR. :)
Speaking of which, you won't be able to xfer any save files *from* a memory card with a CB on v13 or higher, but you can read them. Just put launchelf on a CD & burn your save files to it.
Lastly, on the Codebreaker forums they are talking lots of sh*t as to why their product it not working. Simply put, AR Max uses a better USB driver than the Codebreaker does. If Pelican (maker of the Codebreaker device) got off their ass & updated their driver all problems would be solved!!
Happy New Year everyone.

Is this ethernet thing some kind of Network Adaptor? If so, don't buy it, because the slim PlayStation 2 already has a built-in Network Adaptor. Unless it's some kind of ethernet cable. Do you have the link? I can only tell you exactly if I see the product.

This is what you need;
-A PS2 (duh, with ethernet port)
-A setup-disk (request it from sony, comes with a free online game; Hardware Online Arena); https://www.ps2registration.com/user/console_registration/welcome.jhtml;jsessionid=ABIFCRA0XTXRGCQSBLWSMFQ?_requestid=1324401 <- Read it well
-An Ethernet to Ethernet adapter (2 same connections), to connect it to a router or modem, etc. You can also use an ethernet to PC cable, but I do not know that progress.
That's all.
Signatures are for losers, :P
