Hi
I am new to both emule and routers and I have tried most of the guides people have posted to get higher ID on eMule. My router is Draytek Vigor 2500, my ip is 192.168.1.10, my subnet mask is 255.255.255.0 and my default gateway is 192.168.1.1 (I have tried accessing this via the address bar, yet the passwords and/or user names havn't worked).
My connection speed is 100mbps, yet my average download speed is less than 2kbs.
Please help, thank you for your time!
--------------------------------------------------
I figured out where I was going wrong, thank you if you considered replying!

A few notes:
100Mbps is your maximum network connection, the fastest your computer can send files to other PCs. Routers use a virtual computer network as it offers greater reliability and security than USB. Your real download speed may be something like 1.1Mbps, unlikely more than 8.
2KB/s is a little low even for LowID, though it depends what sort of files you're after. I agree however that this is terrible, since I also suffer from unsolvable terminal lowID, consequently the highest download speed i have reached is about 35 (10+5+8+12) for four downloads. HTTP i can pull 230KB/s so i am not impressed one bit.
There are 6x as many users on emule than warez/ares yet they are
over three times the speed... I'm sure you can see which application i prefer...

ok. i have read this thread. i'll get in trouble if i tell you what i think of it. but i want to help.
I don't have a lowid anymore. one computer worked perfect with forwarding the ports.
the other computer took a reinstall of limewire, reconfigured firewall and still doesn't work. no clue. so i installed zonealarm and turned up up pretty high and DMZ'd the thing.
THIS IS HIGHLY HIGHLY NOT RECCOMENDED. software firewalls aren't shit compared to a router's firewall. AS A LAST RESORT, get zonealarm from the "usual places" install it, leave it open while you download overnight. then undo your dmz when your done.
If you have to resort to that method then use something else that works instead of emule. Like Azureus and www.torrentspy.com I have a very particular reason i need to use emule today and then it's turned off.
Ok. as for some of the questions. STOP ASKING HOW TO GET TO YOUR ROUTER PAGE. RTFM. You can google your routers model number and download the manual for ANY ROUTER.
CHANGE YOUR ROUTER PASSWORDS. I can drive around knoxville and get free wireless because the passwords are default. it doesn't matter if you post your default user/pass because anyone can look that up. example...
http://www.google.com/search?q=linksys+router+password+login&sour...
that's the login and pass for all linksys routers.
Now. To get to your router. There are several ways.
FOR ONE. RTFM. it's usually in there.
Now, EVERY home network starts with 192.168.x.x it's just how it is. this search shows the linksys ip address. i just googled [ linksys 192.168. ] and it brought up pages with the rest.
http://www.google.com/search?num=100&hs=xi1&hl=en&lr=&safe=off&cl...
you can do this with any model. the link about 5 down on that one shows the login for many different routers.
But it's very simple, for some people, to see it on your computer. for xp just go to the network connections. it's in control panel, on your start menu or in the taskbar. double click on your connection, it should bring up a status box, click on support tab and look at the GATEWAY ip addy. this is your router.
you can also go to start run. type cmd. then in the black box that follows type ipconfig. again, default gateway is the router.
Win98, well, jesus, get a new computer or at least upgrade the operating system to 2000. it's a helluva lot better. BUT you go to start, run, and type winipcfg. again. default gateway.
As for forwarding port. People, don't use port trigger. port forwarding is much simpler and works better for what you are doing.
google: difference "port forwarding" "port triggering"
http://www.google.com/search?num=100&hs=wk1&hl=en&lr=&safe=off&cl...
now, some routers suck and only let you trigger. so you'll have to.
also, if you have a belkin router that's not relatively new... throw it in the trash. i'm serious, sell it to your neighbors geek kid for 5 bucks and get something that works. ALMOST ANYTHING ELSE IS BETTER.
You need to set a static ip on your computer
open up you local firewall for emule
open up your routers ports for 4662 4672 and 4711
again 4662 4672 and 4711
these are the only imcoming ports on emule.
Again, DO NOT DMZ UNLESS YOU MUST this is why we get so many computers with spyware on them to repair. just try and dmz for one 12 hour night and you'll see why.
one more thing that i can think of.
1. your isp might be blocking those three ports. i've seen it alot. your college IS blocking them, on purpose!
ok. i'm tired, going on 24 hours no sleep. i'll check this about once a week. Fire away with the questions.
oh and the guy that had the two routers. one is being used as a DSL MODEM, i don't know if you can turn off the router in it but try that and use it as only a modem. if you can't, then i can't remember offhand how to set that up, but basically you need to pass through all the information from one router to the other. I'm pretty sure you set up the gateway and dns on the first router to the ip address and dns server of the MODEM/router. then use the DMZ settings in the modem/router to Demilitarize the wireless router. should work something like that. GOOGLE it.
peace.

OK guys. Its been a while since i last posted this on page 10. i figured i would re-post in case it helps anyone.
REMEMBER- this fix may NOT help everyone but it has worked for me and others as well.
OK, Here goes...
Your Router should have a Firewall built into it. I am allowing WinXP w/SP2 (Firewall turned on) to run DHCP with Linksys Router (no static but you can run w/static). What kind of router are you using? If Linksys then I think I can help. If you are running anyting other than a Linksys Router I believe you can still use this b/c the settings are basically the same. This is kind of long but if you complete I think you will be happy.
This is a lengthy process. Please, be patient. You may want to print these instructions (copy/paste on notepad or something).
*Before you begin i would change everything you changed back to default. Otherwise, my change could conflict with your change.
1. Open emule and click the Preferences button on the Toolbar.
2. Click Connection
3. Change the TCP default Port to 4660.
4. Change the UDP default Port to 4670.
5. You Can click on the Test Ports Button to see if OK. But, if they don?t work it may only be because you have not fully configured everything yet.
6. You can also click the button that says Open these ports on internal XP Firewall (I have not used this because I manually configured the WinXP Firewall, which we will get to later).
7. Click OK at the bottom.
This next step works in conjunction with a Linksys router. I have not tried this on any other router. If you are using a router, other than a Linksys router, I would do this next step anyway.
1. Go to the Control Panel
2. Click on Add/Remove Programs
3. Click Add/Remove Windows Components
4. Scroll down and click on Networking Services
5. Click the Details button
6. Check the box for: Internet Gateway Device Discovery and Control Client
7. Check the box for: UPnP User Interface
8. Click OK then click Next***Note***You may be required to provide your Windows XP CD.
After this is complete Windows XP should automatically install a network Gateway in your Network Connections configuration.
If you are running Windows XP SP2 you need to do the following. If you are not running SP2 then you can skip this next step.
1. Go to the Control Panel
2. Click Windows Firewall
3. Click the Exceptions tab
4. Click the Add Programs button, Scroll down and select Emule. ***If emule is not listed then browse to: C:\Program Files\emule\emule.exe and select emule.exe.
5. Click OK
6. Click Add Port. For the name put Emule TCP and enter the Port 4660. Make sure TCP is selected.
7. Click Add Port. For the name put Emule UDP and enter the Port 4670. Make sure UDP is selected.
8. Close out of the Control Panel.
This next step should work for most routers. If non-Linksys you simply need to navigate to find your config fields. This step in particular is defined from a Linksys Router.
1. Go to a command prompt and type: IPCONFIG write down or note your IP Address.
2. Login to your router
3. If Linksys click on the Advanced tab
4. Next click on the Forwarding tab
5. Enter the following settings:
TCP 4660 To 4660 TCP 192.168.1.XXX (your IP Address) Enable(checkbox)
UDP 4670 To 4670 UDP 192.168.1.XXX (your IP Address) Enable(checkbox)
6. Click the Apply button
7. Logout of your router.
That?s It your done.
Open emule and see if you can connect at HighID.
If you still do not connect it may be because you are using a different router. Remember, I?m using a Linksys router but I think the settings are basically the same.
Despite what others write regarding my fix, remember, not all systems are the same. You have to find what works for your system. It works for me and for other?s I?ve helped.
Sorry, if this was not a help.
**Important: No matter what you do NEVER compromise the security of your system. I would NEVER recommend turning off your Firewall(s) to get a HighID for long term use. One exception to turning off a Firewall would be to do a simple test to see if a Firewall is causing the problem. Turn the Firewall back ON as soon as you run your test. If a Firewall is the problem you need to configure Ports to allow access through the Firewall.
***If you have not Changed your Router Default Password - DO SO!!! Never use a default password!!!
Hope this helps.
Let me know if I you have any questions and feedback is welcome.

On the assumption you haven't changed them, your username and password for your router should be in the manual for it.

For D-Link routers, both name and password are: admin
For other routers, the combination in the previous post is quite likely.

dude, cut back on the caffeine.
look for a reset button on your router. then find your router documentation to see how to login to your router or visit the website. your documentation should tell you your passord. When you do get logged in CHANGE THE DEFAULT PASSWORD to something only you know.
i might suggest you upgrade win98 to winxp on that box. setting up your network is much easier on Winxp. When your router is working it already is the network when you have your pc(s) plugged into it.
You might want to read your documentation on your router to see how to setup a network. it typically is easy to setup a LAN Workgroup.

I am having a problem that I sometimes get a Low ID and other time I connect with no problems. I have my ports forwarded correctly and I have used different ports and all have the same problems. I initially started with 4660 and 4670, I have also used 4662 and 4672, and have also used 5555 and 5556. I don't know what the problem is. Does anyone else know what the deal is with this? Thanks.
