You can copy backups with confidence that they too will work. Mine have.

I posted this on page 13 but got no feedback. I spent easily more than 15 dvds trying to burn Wii games and only 1 worked correctly. I tried burning in DVD+R and -R, I used Nero 7.7, Nero 6.6, ImgBurn, I changed the booktype in DVD+R to DVD-ROM, but also tried DVD-R booktype. All I get is that error message telling me to take out the disc and turn the power off. And yes, I can play back-ups just fine on my Wii, I just can't seem to record them properly(one game aside, but I tried to burn with the same(at least I think so) configurations I used to burn it and it didn't work). Please help me. Thanks in advance.

From what I have read here the burn speed may have an effect when burning from a dumped iso. Try the lowest possible speed. Personally, I use Nero 6.6.0.13 and just run copy DVD.

Hmm...sounds like a master/slave issue. Easiest way to configure a setup like yours is to make sure that both DVD drives (Burner and LG) are on the Primary IDE port of your motherboard. Now, the settings on the actual dvd drives, easiest way is to put them both on CS or Cable Select. If you don't want to do that, you have to make sure that whatever drive is hooked up to the last IDE connection on the cable (Furtherest away from the motherboard) is set to Master and the other drive set to Slave.

From your description, I am guessing that both of your other hard drives are on the SATA port. This also could be another problem as to why you don't see both the DVD drives. Some motherboards have a tendency to turn off either primary or secondary IDE ports when you are using SATA devices (usually the first generation of SATA motherboards). If this is the case with you, it will be as easy as switching the IDE cable from Primary to Secondary or vise versa.

As for why your computer is slowing down, well, that's really either a configuration problem or hardware problem to do with your harddrives or setup of everything. I need to know more information before I can really tell you what this problem is (i.e. harddrive manufacturer, is it SATA or SATA II, etc...).

I live in Australia.

Now, make sure you're looking for the right item. It's a DVD-ROM you're after. Double check the model numbers first on the first post of this section. I've seen them on ebay for around $40, but i think they ship from Hong Kong. I'm not too sure where else you can can them from in Australia, since they seem to be phasing them out because of DVD-burners now.

I was lucky to find I had given my girlfriend my old lg dvd-rom drive which so happened to be the right model. I must have bought this drive about 5 years ago.

Samsung, SH-W162C. I burn ps2 games fine, no idea why the DVDs I burn don't work on the Wii.

Another thing you can try is actually uninstalling all the burning programs (Nero and img burn). Restart your computer and try installing a fresh copy of Nero (the latest one) and try burning again.

Maybe try downloading Alcohol 120%. I haven't burnt any games yet for the Wii, but tonight I will be and I will be trying this program. If it doesn't work, keep it because it's great for PS2/PS1 and xbox games.

Is the drive internal or external?

Already unistalled and reinstalled Nero, didn't work. Let me know how you go with Alcohol 120%, I was thinking about trying it.
How can I know if the drive is internal or external? Excuse my ignorance.

Nah, it's ok. You can tell simply because it's either outside (connected to a usb port) of the computer tower/case or inside of the computer (where you can only see the front face of the drive, where you insert dvd's/cd's).

I have an 8160 in my gateway desktop but I am afraid that i have once again read correctly and this is not an option. Plz let me know if this is the case so I can sell my NES (with RC PRO AM) and get the xtra 20 for a different rom drive. THANK YOU!!!

yeah seems like the most accessible place is ebay, although $40 +20 shipping is a bit overpriced...

Nope, I don't think they ship to Australia, unless maybe you pay for UPS/FedEx Airmail from USA to Australia. I bought the DVD-ROM drive from Newegg.com and one of their businesses are in California (USA). Paying for shipping to Australia (if they even ship to Australia) will bring up the price quite a bit, so you might as well buy it from a business in Australia because it will end up costing you about the same.

There could be more drives compatible. My advice with your drive: Just download that Rawdump program and try it. If it doesn't work, the program will display an error, if it does, then you will see the progress bar on the bottom move very slowly and there will be counters for how long left till it will finish ripping.

Same prerequisite as Wii backups. You do exactly as stated on the very first post of this forum. That's it.

If you have done this, what problems are you experiencing?

That's the price you pay for this sort of thing, especially when everyone knows that it can be used for this application. I think $60 is worth it in the long run. I just bought a Samsung Kreon drive the other day for $50 for xbox 360 back-ups. Totally worth it considering the other options, like with the Wii, if you have a Wii Key chip then you can use their program on the cd which allows you to backup to SD memory card, but then you have to actually have a special adapter to to plug in SD card to gamecube memory port.

I guess that's the price we pay for living downunder (gaming-wise anyway)...

Hey i just got my wiikey installed and recieved my LG-8164b DVD ROM that is supposed to read the Wii games. However I was really dissapointed when I installed the drive in my computer with Windows XP. My computer wouldnt recognize it as being there at all. I tried searching for new hardware etc. and nothing will make it recognize the drive. I have plugged and replugged it in and restarted it a million times and changed which drive was on top.Ive heard things about slave and master drives...does this have anything to do with that? Please help!
