Bunny,
I have the wiikey and everything is going good. Do I need to download any software or firmware from their site and put onto a disc? Is there a tutorial for doing this? Thanks.

Are you having problems? I know for a fact that burning the images in Windows Vista is fine, i am doing this at the moment using the latest version of Nero.
I haven't yet installed the LG dvd-rom drive into my vista computer yet so i can't tell you if the actual ripping program works for it. The best thing to do is just try it. Let me know what problems you are having if you are trying to rip the games...

I purchased the LG GDR-8164B DVD drive and have attempted to use it with an external firewire enclosure. It recognizes the drive, but I can not get it to read Wii discs.
This has an Oxford Semiconductor driver. Does anyone know if I can make this work or if there are any other enclosures that have been tested to work?
Thanks!

if I missed it before, people have asked whether or not you can play a game disc that has been copied from a backup. So far so good. I have taken my Sonic backup and copied a new backup from it, and it played all the same. I am intersted this primarily because I will be re backing up all my backups yearly because of the fear that discs will degrade, out of pure paranoia. I simply did a Nero DVD copy.

Hi, I just installed my wiikey. I have the correct LG drive. I was able to use the raw dump and I burned the DVD-R with Nero. Now that I put the backup cd into the wii, I get the message error saying something like "An error has occurred please eject the cd and turn off the system. Please look the the wii manual". Anyone know what my problem is? Have I soldered the wiikey wrong? I am pretty sure I did it fairly well. Is my dvd burner a dud?

That error message comes up when you don't follow the correct loading procedure for backup disks. Insert the disk only when the Wii is completely powered off with its red light on.

Ok I followed the loading procedure.. insert disk when the light is red. It still says "An error has occurred. Press the Eject Button and remove the disc, then turn the Wii consol off and refer to the Wii Operations Manual for help troubleshooting."
FYI.. I'm not having trouble playing the original games.

Ok so as I have posted before.. I received the message from my wii (Black Screen) An error has occurred.. please turn off wii console... etc. etc. So I transferred the ISO from my pc to an external harddrive and transferred it back into my laptop to burn it. I guessed that my burner was too old. Anyways I'm just updating my post for any of you that has had this problem.

Yep, in general I can too but there is the odd one which is initially recognised but fails in the middle of loading the game. Same disk loaded when the console is in standby (red light) has no problem - strange!

question about the iso image you extract from the original WII dvd. Can it be opened in "magiciso" for example?
I know when you have a PC image you can open the image and see the contents, but for some reason you can't with a WII iso..
I ask this question because I am having the hardest time getting my backups to play. I get unknowen disk type error all the time and then sometimes i get the black screen asking me to refer to my manual.

I was successful backing up my Prince of Persia Rival swords, using the LG drive referenced here, fyi. I wonder what is causing yours to die.

Does anyone know how to prevent an overflow?? I get an overflow every time I try to dump Zelda Collectors Edition for Gamecube. I have tried about 20 times with the same results. All other wii/gamecube games work fine.

Gee...all of these problems I keep hearing with ripping and burning Wii games, I have another possible solution, but it is very extreme:
Wipe your computer and re-install a nice fresh copy of Windows XP or Vista(not as bad, since it was only just released, so it shouldn't be cluttered up yet).
I find strange problems that occur can be because your computer is full of garbage that could be hindering the normal operation of some programs. I've seen these sort of problems before and a fresh clean install of Windows can usually do the trick. I usually recommend people to have Windows re-installed at least once a year.
Maybe this might help some of you. Just think of the last time you had a fresh copy of Windows installed on your computer.

This has probably been mentioned but there are heaps of replies and it taxing to read through them all, why do we need these LG drives and not any normal drive, dumping an ISO image should be the same on all drives?

Look, the reason we need those LG drives is because the DVD drive inside the wii is almost exactly alike (LG) which allows them to read the same things, other DVD drives have been patched so they cannot read RAW data. Got it!!

yes..yes..common sense like taking care of your teeth ..brushing is great but a visit to the dentist does wonders.after installing the operating system and drivers and before installing any software, i always make an image for every pc in the house. i believe that a pc that goes oon the internet collects more garbage than those that stay off it.
but no matter how/when/what we do SOMETIMES things still goes wrong.BAD LUCK perhaps sprinkled with stupidity.
thanks to this forum,i have successfully made 100% working back ups of all my wii games and that of my moms. thats a total of 42 games and they ALL stopped dumping at least 3 times each. average 5hrs for each image.
VERYY HAPPPY indeed

DStefani and zooomz,
i believe scratches are our problem, i just had my prince of persia fixed with one of those professional dvd buffing machines and it worked without a problem. it did have a decent size scratch on it. so just try cleaning them or getting them buffed, hope it works for you too :-)
