Your new CD drive is probably clashing with an existing one. By default the CD drive will be set to slave or cable select meaning the OS decides. If your system only had a hard drive and no CD drives then you would be good to go but this is obviously a clash with another device. First confirm that the bios is detecting by hitting the pause key (top right of keyboard) when you switch the computer on. Do this when the white letters on black show. If you hit it too early then press the spacebar to release the pause and then press pause at the right time. The white letters on black screen will indicate whether the bios has detected your new CD drive. If it has then it is a master / slave problem and you will need to change one of the CD drives from slave to master by moving the jumper on the back.

Not to sound mean, but if you dont know how to properly install a drive, maybe you should bring it somewhere to have it installed.
It will need a jumper, and you cant have 2 masters or 2 slaves. Look at both the drives. Choose 1 to be a master and one to be a slave.

I cannot dump zelda collectors edition (gamecube) with rawdump, it dumps fine until it gets about 80% done and then it stops dumping and the time remaining keeps going up until it goes past 2 hrs. then it says there was an overflow and to ignore or cancel. Ignore causes it to do nothing as the time goes up, I have tried this @ least 15 times with the same results. Has anyone actually dumped it before or know how?

I guess I am not sure of your dillema. You can play a backup, but you cant make a back up? What do you mean, you cant record them properly? Do you mean you cant read the disc (Wii game)?
Do you have one of the LG drives listed on the first post?
I do, and I am burning the games with a Sony DVD burner onto a Taiyo Yuden DVD-R and they work great.

My Wii reads back-ups just fine, I just can't burn them correctly, no idea why. I spent over 15 dvds and only one worked correctly. I just burned a ps2 back-up today to see if it's my burner, but the game played perfectly on my PS2. My burner's brand and model are listed on last page together with the all the programs and media types I used.

So, to check if it was my burner I burned Pokemon Colosseum for GC and my Wii reads it correctly, my Wii also read the Wii back-ups I tested at the store(to test the modchip), this leads me to belive I'm doing something wrong when burning my Wii isos. I've used Hyundai DVD+R and burned at 4X and 8X. I've burned the iso just like the tutorial says. Thanks for your help people.
Sorry, but I dont see where you listed what brand of DVD-ROM drive you are using. I am not an expert on this, but the first page says you need to use one of the LG drives. This is totally seperate from the DVD burner you use to burn the game.
You need a LG DVD drive to read the game using rawdump, and your DVD Burner to burn it onto a blank DVD.
I personally use Taiyo Yuden DVD-R for PS2 and Wii and they work great. Also, you need to slow down your burn speed to 2x or 2.4x

I finally got my Wii Key chip installed. The tutorial works perfectly. This is all you need. I won't even bother trying to use other programs to burn ISO images (Alcohol 120% - asks to specify block allocation - bad memories from trying to do this before) for Wii (including gamecube games). Just use Nero. Aussie's will find that Nero is given to them with every DVD burner they purchase. I'm using the latest vista version and it works perfectly. The only problem you guys may have might be obtaining the LG DVD-Rom drive to make backups or trying to get that dodgy SD-Gamecube memory card adapter and using the Wii Key software to create a backup.
Aussie gamers:- Super Paper Mario, if you are using a "backup" version, make sure you have it patched first before you burn it. I received a file that does this. Also, UPDATE YOUR CONSOLE FIRST before running the game. It does try to update your console so if you don't update your console first, you will brick (stuff up) your console!

Hey, I just had a thought about your problem, it may seem like a stupid suggestion, but did you make sure you used the right Nero program to burn the iso files? The reason I ask is that normally if you are using Nero, most people use Nero SmartStart, which has its own program to burn cd/dvd. On mine, I physically had to go into the short-cut section under Nero and find Nero Image Burning Rom (or whatever the hell it's called) - I think it's under "Data".
This may seem silly, but I'm trying to rule out possibilities.

Oh, and I forgot to mention, if you are using Nero Burning Rom, make sure that you are finalising the image. This is important because I think the tutorial doesn't make mention of it, it only shows the photo which maybe not many people would notice it.

I'm using Nero Burning Rom not Nero Smart Start. Also, I did manage to burn 1 GC game and 1 Wii game yesterday, they booted up correctly and I managed to play them, BUT on certain parts they give me an error message telling me to turn the Wii off, what causes this? My first guess would be media, but I'm using good media(not the best I have to admit, but my PS2 games always burned great with the brands I'm using).

This is a summary of all of the pages in this thread and includes all of the relevant points and download links required to successfully backup Nintendo Wii and GameCube discs.
Full credit must, of course, go to bunny c.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You will need one of the following DVD drives to read the discs (no others will work).
* LG 8164B or LG GDR 8164B
* LG 8163B or LG GDR 8163B
* LG 8162B or LG GDR 8162B
* LG 8161B or LG GDR 8161B
NOTE: These DVD drives are read only. They are not DVD writers.
Once you install this drive into your computer set the transfer mode of your IDE to PIO only, this seems to solve a bunch of Microsoft .Net Framework problems.
Installed as a Master.
1. Right click my Computer on desktop and select Properties.
2. Select the Hardware tab.
3. Select the Device Manager tab.
4. Click the + symbol to the left of IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers.
5. Right click Secondary IDE Channel and select Properties.
6. Select the Advanced Settings tab.
7. Change Device 0 Transfer Mode to PIO Only.
Installed as a Slave.
1. Follow steps 1-6 for Installed as a Master.
2. Change Device 1 Transfer Mode to PIO Only.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Download and install the following applications.
Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0
http://www.filesend.net/download.php?f=1...29f589245dc302e
RawDump 2.0
http://www.filesend.net/download.php?f=e...9e7348c299a3035
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Double click on the rawdump.exe and then insert your Wii or Gamecube disc into the LG drive.
Click "Start Dump". On my computer this process took about 3 hours. When it is complete you will be greeted with a finished message. The file it creates will be in the same directory as the rawdump.exe file. It should be called "Game Name.iso". This iso is an image of the actual game and is ready to be burned to a DVD.
This step is very important. You need to check your file and see how many KB large it is. To do this right click on your iso and select properties.
It should be the following size:
Nintendo Wii disc iso size: 4.37 GB (4,699,979,776 bytes)
Nintendo GameCube disc iso size: 1.35 GB (1,459,978,240 bytes)
All Nintendo Wii and GameCube iso images will be this exact byte size. If your image is off by any then you have a bad dump and need to try again.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Burn the iso image that you have dumped to a high quality DVD-R. Make sure to select a relatively slow burn speed to prevent DRE's (Disc Read Errors).
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Play in your CHIPPED Nintendo Wii.

Wii and gamecube games are a bit more sensitive than PS2 games I discovered last night. I found one of my gamecube games I burnt had not worked properly, either because it was a bad rip or because my laptop changed battery power during the burning process. I kept getting a gamecube disc read error and told to clean the dvd (even though it was freshly burnt).
In your case, it sounds like a bad rip or bad dvd's or quite possibly your burner(i know, i know. It may not seem like it but it could be).
What brand dvd's are you using?
Currently i'm using my laptop to burn these games. It's a LG laptop with obviously a LG DVD burner in it. I'm using "Imation" blank dvd's to burn onto. I use 2x to burn but I tried 4x (with Super Paper Mario) and it worked fine.

If anyone's interested in modding the wii, I can do it for $100 and the chip will cost $20. Contact me at cy1126@myuw.net. I'm located in Albany, NY. The name of the chip is Wiifree, but you may provide your own
