I'm having trouble with the burning part. I've tried to Burn Trauma center once and Super Paper Mario twice, but they didn't work. So, to check if it was my burner I burned Pokemon Colosseum for GC and my Wii reads it correctly, my Wii also read the Wii back-ups I tested at the store(to test the modchip), this leads me to belive I'm doing something wrong when burning my Wii isos. I've used Hyundai DVD+R and burned at 4X and 8X. I've burned the iso just like the tutorial says. Thanks for your help people.

What burner do you have? I have burned with both a samsung and a nec with no problems at 12x with verbatim DVD+R

thanks, it works great if you start rawdump before you insert the disc, it must have something to do with how windows interprets the wierd file system on the games

I would just like to thank bunny_c for this tutorial as it has helped me a lot. I have seen parts of the same tutorial in different places across the net so it appears to be the best.

Many thanks

I have a question about modchips and I didn't find any answer...

Is it possible for Nintendo to update the firmware in their dvd drive to make the modchips unusable or there is absolutly no risk that it happens?

I'm no expert but adding a modchip there is always some sort of risk, including the ability for nintendo to outsmart it. You have to remember nintendo is a multi billion (probably trillion) dollar corporation with unlimited resources, i'm sure their team can develop a nice little neutralizer for any mod chip. From what I undertand there are chips out there that are "undetectable" and "stealth running". If your worried, then don't get one, its that simple.

can they detect you thrugh ISP, when updateing the wii?? i heard the chip and read that the chip is basically there and has nothing to do in gerneral with the wii itself...jus allows playing backsup and stuff, but nintendo has no way of knowing its there?

That is something I would like to know too. And also if a drive firmware update would make modchips unusable. It would be nice if an "expert" could answer us

The modchips are connected to the Wii's DVD-Rom, all it does is manipulate the data read by the DVD-Rom so that the Wii does not know the difference between Backups, Originals, Region, etc. The CPU has no idea that there is a Modchip install. For all the CPU knows it is receiving correct and exact data needed. This does not mean it might not be detectable 100%, anything is possible in electronics. If for any reason nintendo releases a firmware to "block" (because it is pretty much what it can do" then I would assume that the reason most modchips are DVD Upgradable are for this reason, so they might be able to go around future firmwares if possible. The modchips seem to be hardware specific and really does not seem it would be affected by a software (firmware) update. But who knows? Again, if you're worried, then just don't mess with it.

I have went through all these pages for this thread. And what i have come up with is that we could shorten this to 2 pages at best.

1 you need the LG forget about asking abouth others.
2 You need a modchip.
3 I burned mine with imgburn 2.3.2.0. Props to the maker
4 At the first post it stated it can only work on the Wii if it matched a certin # but twice ( Farcry and Sonic) Comes up with htis number 4,589,824kb and seems to work fine.
5 I am working with Vista Ultimate Edition.
6 When i use Rawdump(Props do here as well) It gives me errors at first but i resart the program and it works fine then.
7 I am using FUJI Film DVD-R
8 I am using Plextor Usb Burner at 4x and seems fine.
9 Also using the Wiikey
So please keep the silly questions down and the answers up . Also there is a cool thing called the Fu**in SEARCH BUTTON.
Well there is my 2 cents worth.

Maybe someone can help me with this.

I want to start making back-up games, but I only have a laptop (no desktop) is there any other drive I can use? Or is there a way to mod the LG to use as external?

Sorry if it seems dense. I'm 100% new to this.

I don't think this threat is related to your problem, I doubt the modchip could have done this. But regardless: It has to be your network connection, can you use the internet channel? or can you test your connection using the Wii's internet utility? (On the Wii's Options). Can you update the Wii itself? (Wii Update Utility).

You need a LG-8161b LG-8162b LG-8163b or LG-8164b these are DVD-ROM drives so you will have to burn to a DVD-R or DVD+R (if u change the booktype) with another DVD burner. The model you have (gsa-h42l) is the wrong one...sorry

I have read all 23 pages of this thread and I am a little wary of getting told off for asking a question that has already been answered. That is the problem with long threads. Anyway here goes ... I have successfully backup up one of my games and the backup plays perfectly. Another game backup, however, does not play at all. Any ideas anyone? I have used the same software and procedure in both cases. I read in another thread that someone downloaded an iso that failed to be read by the Wii but I don't see that as too similar to my problem.
