I see alot of people claiming you MUST burn at 4x in order for the backups to work properly, then i see those who say they burned at like 12x. I have burned at 4x and 12x with no noticable difference, is there one? Will the game skip eventually or graphics be worse?

rough timeframe , to image a game about 3-3.5 hours and to burn about an hour depending on your speed of burning, i am using a wiikey and have had no problems whatsoever

Hi All!

This is such a great thread.

I've got a quick question, like most new PCs out there my PC has only 1 drive bay (I currently have a HP 4x DVD burner hooked up to it). I know that I need an LG DVD reader but is there an LG drive that I can use to both read and write backups?

Or does anyone have any other methods I could use?

Thanks!

I have a Dell D620 laptop and I can confirm that non of the Dell Stuff work, What I did I bought an LG Black E-IDE/ATAPI DVD-ROM Multi Read Drive Model GDR-8164BK - OEM from http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductLis...=LG+Electronics

Since I have a laptop and didn't want to buy an external case for DVD drives I used my old external HD Case and it works fine (But it looks ugly).

I suggest you buy an external case of some sort, but if you want DVD+RW maybe one of these will help but I can't confirm that:

I wish there was a clear answer to what type of media and what speed to burn and what program to use. I just modded my Wii with a WiiD chip. I think it's a brand new type. I have never modded a console by soldering before but damn I got it to work the first time!!! The only thing I have tested so far is an image I got from somewhere (heh) that has many roms and emulators on it ranging from snes to sega genesis. Well it worked, at first!! I was shocked of course!! I felt like I was in a dreamworld!! All the roms worked better than the original console. But I noticed some things were glitchy. Like the text here and there would randomly change in the emulator selections with garbage.

I used Nero and burned at 12x on a memorex DVD+R. Like I said everything read perfectly the first time I booted up the wii following the soldering of the chip. Well I have to reset the wii to get back to the main menu to choose another emulator from what i could tell, so I reset the thing. Then I couldn't get it to read the disk anymore. I got frustrated and tried different speeds, slower and faster. Nothing would read anymore. So I turned it off and unplugged the power for a few minutes. Every now and then it will read the burned disks. My original games seem to work perfectly still. I just don't know whether my disks are having trouble being read or if I have done a shoddy soldering job. I'm leaning more towards the disk right now because I just don't want to go through re-soldering if I don't have to.

Weird thing is, when it works it seems to work great. It's just getting the disc to initially read. I'm going to try some dumps of my own and different media I guess. Just thought I would share my experience with others in case it helps any. I've read a lot of posts and everyone has their own methods it seems.

My DVD burner is a memorex and I'm wondering if this LG drive really is needed for dumping images correctly. I'll try it on this one to see what happens and I'll let you all know.

Do you have to have a MODCHIP in order for the backups to work... They are exact copies, why would you need a MODCHIP, or are the copies different somehow??? If you need a MODCHIP... which is the best to get and how much is it? Also are they pretty easy to install, how many wires do you have to solder?

I honestly can't stand how stupid some people are.

If its a raw file USE RAWDUMP 2.0 TO CONVERT RAW TO ISO

I don't claim to know it all, far from it, but come on, the questions that some people ask, in a thread that is for something specific, i swear some people are just barking up the wrong tree, if you can't master internet searching then you shouldn't be modding your friggen wii

agreed, i have seen some people just post questions in here that are covered in the beginning of the thread but dont wanna take the time to read, these people would rather be "spoonfed" the information, all the information is there if you look hard enough actually its really not THAT hard either

cheers

Just following up from last post...

Okay so it seems that I modded the thing fine. It was just the DVD media I was using. I used a Sony +R at 2x burn speed and the first two images I got work superb on them. Everything is working perfectly. I also used the imgburn utility which I heard about earlier in this thread. The memorex didn't seem to work hardly in my wii and I have an original first week launch machine. Anyways, I'm blown away at how simple it was to get this to work. Thanks every one for all the tips collected here!

What I did to get the shit to work!-------------
