From an infrequent newbie:
I have had some ripping and burning success creating a movie folder, opening with DVD Shrink. After the analysis stage into Backup, I open desired movie folder and .iso after the movie file name and let it go from there. If I have a blank DVD in my writer, it will automatically start to burn after the rip. Is this sequence of events causing me the CRC problem with Shrink. I of course ran into THE SAME problem when using DVDX?

However i am using different programs. i am using DVD Shrink 3.2 with Nero Ultra Edition 6.6.0.13 the dvd is brand new, with absolutely no scratches, the dvd burner on my computer is LiteOn 16x DVD+-R/+-RW Double Layer Drive. What do i do to get it to burn the dvd?

robert82,
You can use AnyDVD($39.00) DVDFAB Decrypter(free) or Ripit4Me(Free)and rip the DVD to HD.
Now if you have a problem ripping the DVD to HD then you have a bad mastering press and it needs to be returned for exchange.

Hi I am really new at this and am having some difficulties. I have season 2 of lost and it keeps telling me that I have a cyclic redundancy check error within the first menu. The disc is brand new and I have a feeling that the problem is occuring because of the way the title is set up with a scene playing over and over in the background of the title screen. I would greatly appreciate any and all help I can get. Oh and also I am using DVD Shrink, DVD Decrypter, and imgburn if that helps. Thanks

You guys are truly amazing at what you do...Thank you I got the first disc to season 2 of lost backed up successfully with your advice. Unfortunately I tried to back up the second disc of the series and when I use DVD Shrink it comes up with "programming error - exception occured" I really hate to be a pesky newbie but does anyone have some advice for this problem? Thanks guys and keep doing what you do so great.
-Oh and I thought I would add the problem occurs within 4% completion

@kevin
Can we have the rest of the error please...should be "Invalid Handle", "Parameter Incorrect" etc.
You might also want to try ripping to HDD first using DVDFab Decrypter instead of DVD Decrypter.

sorry for the lack of information...
I used DVDFab Decrypter when this error occured. The first time I tried to back up the disc it gave me this error:
DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue
Failed to read file "c:\Documents and settings\owner\desktop\dvds\lost2\vts_01_1.vob
Invalid access to memory location
the second time i tried it again it came up with the error:
DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue
Programming error - exception occured
its probably something dumb that im just doing wrong but i really apprectiate the help

here's a newbie question: i tried to copy a dvd with DVD Shrink, but got a CRC error. then i tried just using DVD Decrypter to rip the movie to my hdd. the disc ripped perfectly but when i tried to open the VIDEO_TS folder in DVD Shrink i get the following error:
Invalid data in file: "F:\HMC0NNW1\VIDEO_TS\VTS_07_1.VOB"
i moved the files to C:\ but i still get the EXACT same error - including "F:\" which is odd. i can watch VTS_07_1.VOB in power dvd, but it's a little sluggish and garbled at times though it gets over it fairly quickly. the disc i ripped fom is a little scratched, but nothing too serious. should i try ripping VTS_07_1.VOB until i get a clean copy, or am i screwed?
any ideas?
thanks,
keir
EDIT: i was watching the VOB file again and noticed that when it gets garbled it's actually showing a few frames of the same screen in japanese - if that makes any difference.

jollijedi,
You can try these ways below.
1. Use VobBlanker(corrects structural errors) after DVDDecrypter and before Shrink.
2. Use DVDFAB Decrypter and then use VobBlanker and then Shrink
3. Use Ripit4Me and then Shrink
4. Try AnyDVD and use the Ripper function and make sure that you use FixVTS automatically.
DVDDecrypter has not been updated in over a year nor will it ever be updated as Macrovision now owns it. #1,2,3 are all free and #4 is $39.00 US but it does have a free 21 day trial version

Hi,
I am new to this forum and have been reading about various DVD copying related problems and solutions with much interest. I have also been having problems with CRC errors upon backing up DVDs for a while now and would love some further information.
It is my understanding that CRC errors generated while running the DVD Decrypter are hardware generated; the checksum not matching the data read on a particular sector. In my case, I have been getting those from brand new disks probably of bad quality. I do not understand how those errors can be overcome by the recommended settings in Decrypter prior to ripping as the problem is a corrupted disk and not a corrupted file. I have a particular DVD right now with a multitude of bad sectors which could easily take up to 4 days to rip. Could someone confirm that when Decrypter is run with the suggested settings, the bad read error messages are still generated but that the actual data from the DVD is ripped across to the file rather than substituting the unread data with 0 or 9.
Thank You

DanielM73 ,
What are you trying to copy as the new encryptions also give you CRC errors

You need to update your arsenal..as Car.Mike stated new protections can give DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink fits, they aren't updated any longer so they can't handle the newer encryptions. Give DVDFab Decrypter a shot...here is a guide.
Quote: originated from Asia
This should work on title from here, but if not let us know there may be other routes to explore.

Car.mike, Locoeng and Tucker001 thank you guys for your inputs.
I don't believe that I have a problem of new decryption but rather one of bad quality disks; they do not play off a standard DVD player either. No matter, in such a case the data is still there on the DVD disk and if it could be extracted, irrespective of errors, the result would be better than files of 0 or 9. I will try the other suggested methods of decrypting / ripping and will advise of the results. In the mean time, keep up the good work; the information on this forum is very informative.
