Hi ScubaPete,
I seem to have the same problem as weehawk (DVD read error - cycling redundancy check). It always seems to happen when there are sratches on a DVD, tired polishing, but no luck.
I am using DVD43 for derypting and wanted to sheck the settings you are suggesting in your answer. However, I cannot even find a tools tab on when opening DVD43. I feel a bit dumb saying this, but can you help - is it hidden somewehre or are you talking about a different decrypter. I have just downloaded version 3.7.0.1.
Thanks for your help!

I am new aswell, using Shrink and Nero because there is no longer Decrypter (unless someone can tell me where to find it), during the encoding with Shrink it gives the cyclic redundancy message, disc has been cleaned and scratch repaired so do I change settings in Nero to override the minor errors in it (it plays perfectly). Thanks for any help and to Pete for the guides

For CRC errors here is what has worked for me: For DVD's like Kung Fu Hustle for example. This always seemed to happen at the beginning of the movie when the screen is black. Click Reauthor button then select the movie file. Click the Start-End button. Move into the movie just to where something begins to show on the screen - skipping the blackness at the beginning. Then backup. No errors.

When I first started getting the crc errors I thought maybe it could have been copyrighted codes shrink couldnt break. So I downloaded the latest AnyDVD. While that was running in the background I then attempted again to analyze with shrink. What do you know, it worked. Its has since always worked anytime I have ever had the crc error. I never have seen a case like mine and everyone always says bad disc or scratches. I could be wrong somewhere ( Im no expert) but at least try it. Its always worked for me.

hi im newbie and i was just wondering if you could help me! ive read through most of the forums so i could try to figure out the problem myself but i have had no luck at all!! Anyway, im trying to burn season 2 of Dawson's Creek. I burnt disc one successfully using DVD Shrink however this disc just will not copy! When i put it through DVD Shrink it gets to around 74% in the analysing process and then the message "failed to read the file "E:\" Data Error(C.R.C.)" comes up. Then i tried to put it through Dycrypter and when it gets to 64% the following message comes up:
I/O Error!
Device: [0:0:0]HP DVD Writer 640c C530 (E:)(ATA)
Scsistatus: 0x02
Interpretation: Check Condition
CBD:28 00 00 25 0D 20 00 00 01 00

Interpretation: Unrecovered Read Error
sorry about being so big on the details but ive read so many times that you need to know details! so yeah i wanted to be as specific as i could! oh and i have cleaned the disc many times and it doesnt have any significant scratches on it. thanks

Hi, I have a kind of different problem. I have a Memorex DVD Burner and I'm trying to copy Freaks and Geeks, but this happens with all discs now. Whenever I try to copy any disc, I get a CRC, because there are scratches, but not because they're there before I start, the scratches are made by the burner. Is the problem the burner or some settings that I have in DVD Shrink? The disc always gets about half of the way through and then it freezes with the CRC. Please help!

hey mkburn
it doesnt matter what program you use, your drive should NEVER scratch your disks! If it does, it is because it is malfunctioning. I recommend you to get a new drive right away.

Thanks, the thing is, it only scratches discs when ripping them. It burns discs fine, it plays discs fine, it just scratches ones being ripped.

This is just a guess. It may be your ripping speed is much faster than your burning speed. It sounds like too much free play in the drive mech possibly allowing wobble and causing the disc to rub somewhere inside. While burning at a slower speed less than the ripping speed you don't get the off balance effect. Like I said this is just a guess but I have seen excessive play in different drive spindles.

If you have Nero, it has a tool called drivespeed, that can control the speed of your drive.

For all you that are having the CRC error....I was told about a very nice program called AnyDVD 5.8.3.1. It runs in the back ground and lifts all the codes and protections that I can see and allows you to still use the DVD Shrink and Decrypter... Try it out.. I hear people are also using it wiht CloneDVD... It is a trial at first and has to be purchased after 21 days. But from what I have read they are staying ahead of the game and you can get updates for it.

@MKBURN,
As the discs are read and burned by a laser light, there is no way a light can cause scratches. As Jerry told you, try adjusting the drive's speed. If that doesn't work, a new drive s/b in your future.
@KINGPIN,
AnyDVD is, without a doubt the best program on the market today for ripping programs. Iffin' you don't want to spend the $$.$$, use DVDFab Decrypter, it's free but not as good. No matter what your choice, it will have no bearing at all with the scratching of a DVD disc.
Cheers,
Pete

Hey, so i have been using DVD Decrypter and shrink for a couple of years now and i had never received the CRC error before with DVD Shrink. So, thinking it might be the original dvd (undeclared) that caused the problem i tried another dvd (the rock). Well, they both went through the decrypter fine. Then the error popped up on both of them in Shrink. I checked for scratches on the discs but they are almost perfect. So, i'm thinking i should clean my burner. However i was thinking, could it be the hard drive that is causing the problem? I just think it is weird, cause i was burning fine up until i did a defrag of my system. It could just be a coincidence. Any info i can get would be great! I wanna get back to my "backing up" of my movies.

Some newer movies are kicking out that error because of copy protection...you may look into AnyDVD as pete advised, you can get a 21 day free trial here: http://www.slysoft.com
Welcome back Pete, hope you feeling better...we were all worried about you.

So you are trying to burn from a backup...there could be several things wrong.
1. Backed up on cheap media.
2. Burned too fast.
3. Burned too close too the outer edge of the disc.
Any of these can render a disc useless, and may be the source of your problems.

I have Nero 7 Ultra. I just recently loaded it after having switched over to Windows XP and having a completely rebuilt computer.
I have a new capture card which allows me to tranfer old vhs tapes over to my computer and then be able to burn them to a DVD.
Every time I attempt to burn a DVD, it goes so far and fails. I am, however, able to see the movie up to the part where it fails. I'm not trying to burn dvd to dvd (copyright movies), just my old tapes (home movies, etc.). A friend suggested to download DVD Shrink and DVD Encrypt which I have done. I don't see how this is going to fix my problem. I've wasted so many DVDs and CDS in this process.
I don't think it is my burner (Mad Dog) because I just sent it off because it was defective and they sent me another one.
I get messages like "invalid block address" and "cannot find media"
Does anyone know what I can do to fix the problem?

Thanks for the help guys, but it did turn out to be a bad hard drive! I came home a couple of days ago and the computer would not boot and said the norm for a dead drive. I guess i just wore it out with all of my "backups"! Lata
