There's not really any way to cut back on a games load times, other than using HD Loader/HD Advance and playing games off a HD.

Well,I just got my new burner in the Mail today(Had to RMA the old one).I wanted to burn a couple of games but didnt have any good media,so I burned them to some 4x Memosux CMC MAG that my freind gave me.They didnt work when burned at 2x but actually worked flawlessly when I burned them at 4x(College Hoops 2k6 and Kingdom Hearts 2),I was definetly suprised.I wont be using them when my Yudens come in,but they will work until then.
I dont reccomend Memorex to ANYONE for burning games,I just thought it was pretty funny that they actually worked for me.

It's not that unusual to have that happen at first. I bet if you scanned them, they may even have decent quality scores. The real question is, how will your Memosux backups play 6 months from now? I don't think you need a clairvoyant to answer that one.

Can somebody tell me exactly what brand/type i have to look for at wal-mart. i made the mistake of buying memosux at radioshack last week (they were on sale 25pk for $7 so it wasnt a total loss, i can use em for cheap data storage) i made 8 coasters/ice scrapers/bondo spreaders before i stumbled across AD. What exactly would i be looking for in a type of dvd? should i go with - or +? any type of number or something on the case/package i should look for?

in MY Opinion 99.9999999999% of all coasters are user error, you either have a PC that doesn't have the hardware capability or your firmware is out of date. ALL disks regardless of quality will produce a perfectly playable disk, how long that disk will last after burning is where the disk quality comes into play.
for compatibility a +R booktyped to -ROM is most compatible but if your burner doesn't support booktyping then use -Rs myself i use -R only and never have any problems and i burn a few thousand disks ever couple months.

So can someone post links to the best DVD burners? Where to buy them? And the best places to order the media from?
I was looking for media...and wow! There are a lot of different types of any given brand...do I just want plain discs, without the printable cover? Or is it worth it to get those covers? I just want the best set up for burning games, so can someone hook me up with some linkage for purchasing?

Just to go on the record, can we make GregI's supension permanent? He constantly makes useless posts. I don't bother to respond to them anymore, but they're an utter waste of server space. People like him are part of the reason people like me don't spend much time here nowadays.

I finally got myself some Yudens, got some Sony 8x DVD+Rs MIJ from wal-mart for $24,they code out as YUDEN000-T02-00.
I downloaded Liggy and Dee's firmware for my burner so I can booktype those babies to DVD-ROM.
You can tell these discs are better than the other crap ive been using just by looking at them..they are so shiney LOL

@Tokijin - said poster is on my list of ppl to (constantly, more's the pity) keep a beady eye on. it's soooo annoying waiting for these posters to grow up and post things of use or not at all. ah well maybe when they start to mature a little they'll stumble on their own posts and cringe :)

@Creaky Thanks for understanding. Obviously it's at you and the other mods discretion who does/doesn't get banned. GregI will come back when he's banned again, but his constant ignorance shouldn't be tolerated either.
@K4Kashi Welcome to the big leagues, and the end of boot failures. People're always amazed how good the quality of TY's and Verb's are after they make the switch. It's almost like they think people who use them are lying to try to get them to buy the good stuff lol. I doubt you'll go back to Ritek or your other media anytime soon. Good Luck!

Im liking the Yudens so far.(Booktyped to DVD-ROM)
The first burn I did with them was College Hoops 2k6,it works well but skips every now(judging from the review on IGN the gameplay hiccups are normal for this game though, but it does lag in the menus sometimes) and then and takes a lil longer to boot up with SM.Im thinking the reason for this is because the game is fairly larger(4.1 GB).Got a quality score of 91 in CD Speed.(Seems kind of low for such good media)
I then burned Kingdom Hearts 2 and it works GREAT,it doesnt make the grinding sound like it did on my old DVD-Rs,it got a quality score of 99 in CD Speed.
Im hoping that first burn was just a fluke or something.

Most likely, or it's a Swap Magic issue. I've gotten one 91 on all the TY's I've burned. I've gotten three or four 94's, the rest were 95's or better. So that's 4/80 that have been below a 95.

Well,I reburned CH 2k6 at 6x speed and got a quality score of 99 in CD Speed and now it plays flawless,I guess some games just like to be burned at higher speeds or something.
I had to use 3 DVDs on this game to get it working(the power went out the first time while I was reburning it lol),but its all good now.

Yeah I should've specified that's 4/80 on Yuden000T02. I've burned 150+ on TYG02. I've gotten some bad quality scores (79 on a TY, hard to do), but only because I was a total noob. My firmware was not up to date, I had a bunch of programs open, etc. I cringe when I think of those days lol.

if you have a good computer (i have a very good one) and use yuden's and use the computer they still play flawlessly. I have a LiteOn 1633S Dual Layer DVD Burner and it's damn good, no problems and i have had it for 2 years i would really recommend it to anyone that need's to get a burner. When i burn my games on taiyo's i don't have anything running anyways, because it only takes 10-15 mins. All of my TY burns have been tested and all work great with no problems

Exactly. Even if someone had the resources and the time to run a side by side study of which PS2 will burn out quicker, one that uses CMC Mag exclusively, or one that uses TY's exclusively, noone would bother. If you know CMC Mag blows, and you can get TY's and Verb's cheaper, you'd have to be a nimrod to choose CMC Mag.
