1) If your soldering skills are any goo, you could try desoldering the Wiikey, or at least desoldering point 1, and see if the Wii starts reading original discs. [ALERT: If you have never soldered anthing that small before, do not attempt it. Have a professional do it for you]
2) Using the directions posted in the thread I linked for you, use a multimeter to check soldering joints for shorts or broken connections.
Originally posted by Yosh1: ok, rafa i opened it up and i took the disc drive out and im looking at my blue wiikey, but there are no wires? he just soldered it. And my camera wont focus that close up because it sucks so i cant really take a picture but is there anything we can do from here?
THANKS!

Does it require your wii key to be 1.9g to play SSBB?
It is a good idea to, because if it isnt then there is a chance that you could really brick your wii, instead of just dup channels.

ok, i've done much more reasearching and figured out its called a ZIF connector. yeah i broke it and read some forums and other people have made my mistake one guy hot glueed it and said it worked.. so i tried that and when i plug the wii in it started spinning a lot then i pressed A to get out of that first black screen when you turn your wii on and now my wii wont take in any discs..? and it doesnt spin anymore. I've unded the ZIF connection and redid it multiple times, and same result. one of the timesit took in a disc but then it will just act like there was no disc and it wouldnt eject...
omg what is wrong with my life?!

Hi.. I am semi-noob i guess :)
I installed my wiikey (clone from Dealextreme i guess) since sometime last year in June or July. I haven't touch the Wii since then.. and the latest i remember was, i did the super mario system update and everything was still working fine. Today, I just have sometimes to try to get back into the wii scene again and back up
a) Soul Calibur, b) Carnibal Game and c) Nights
when I put the backup into the Wii, it didn't show any disc info at all, so I panicked and put my old backup in (Sonic secret of ring) and it works fine.. my question is
1) Do I need to update my Wiikey to the most updated one? Is it as simple as burn the file onto the DVD-R disc and then flash them in my Wii? Will this 'brick' my machine? I read that if I do something wrong esp with Super Mario GAlaxy, it might brick my machine.
2) What are the latest and greatest on the wii mod now? i haven't follow it close to a year.. I did have a hard time putting Wiikey in my machine and would not like to redo it again (desolder and put another modchip in).. is the Wiikey (mine should be the earlier clone i think.. but does it really matter? since it's all circuit anyway?)
Please advice. Thank you

thanx rafa,I have some questions before i update my wiikey?
does the 1.9g update have the features of the 1.9b or must i update first the 1.9b than the 1.9g?
must i turn region on after i update the wiikey to 1.9g so whats the difference if you play only games of your region?

You don't have to install 1.9b, you can go straight to 1.9g.
Only turn REGION OVERRIDE on if you aim to play games not of your region. If not, don't worry about it.

[Thank you ElXando. You beat me to it.]
You can update directly to 1.9g.
Playing games only from your region is the best thing to do. I still reccommend turning the Region Override ON. Then use WiiBrickBlocker, not to patch, but only to check (Read Info)images for the Region of Origin. Then only burn the images from your region.
The result is the same, however, were you to change your mind, or need to run something from other regions, you will not need to go in the settings again.

1) So far the Wiikey is still going strong and playing everything.
2) As for the Sonic game not working, are you using the the correct region? or are you trying to play games from a different region? It may also be a bad burn.
3) What I would do is first update the Wiikey to 1.9g [Use the correct region). Then, if you can, update your Wii using the Internet. And, finally, try to use games only from your region, that way you will not risk bricking your Wii.

The 1.9g update will work at 3.0 or at 3.1. It does not matter.

SSBB doesn't have protection, it's merely Dual Layer. And I'm betting Mario Kart Wii will be. If it's not, it won't be nearly as good a game as it could be.

Wiis with Wiikey can't read original Dual Layer games. You're going to have to download it and buy a DVD DL.

...Are you serious?
Is the download even available yet (English one of course)? If not are we expecting to see one before the 9th or on the 9th?

Sorry, I am serious :(
I don't think the English one is available. See if you have anything capable of dumping it. If so, upload it somewhere too :D
