OK, guys. I know my third question may be an exception but any one of you who have a burned wiikey disk or wiikey update OR backup of a Wii Game could help me with #1 and #2. I am not trying to be pushy but I am really tired of making coasters!
For instance, when I made a 1.3 disk with ImgBurn, I downloaded the CGOS padded version of the disk from the beginning of this thread, extracted the file, and burned it to a TDK -R burnable DVD. I noticed the format still said "CDROM" on one part of the main info screen so I tried again, this time manually setting the .iso format to "DVDROM". I don't even know if that was correct, but it seemed logical, being what was there originally. The disc still was not read but that may be because I was using TDK media (that was a year old) OR the fact that I botchd the format. I dunno.
SO for these reasons, please take pity on a n00b and show me the way to bootable disks. I am not looking for everything to be handed to me here. I just need some basics to get started.

Then your Wiikey is not corrupted. ON THE SECOND UPDATE WHERE IT SAYS Do NOT TURN OFF WIIKEY that is where you plug out your Wii at around 70%. If you turn it off during the flash test it won't do anything...when it's actually FLASHING that's when you should plug it out as the data is actually being flashed to the chip.

1) I have used TDK successfully in the past.
2) You should not need to select anything. What software are you using to burn the disc? Also, try the regular padded version, not the GCOS one.
3) Switch on ground is fine.

i have a us wii v3.1u , 1.9b. SMG work for my wii. I wanted to play SSBB jap version. I downloaded 1.3setup burned it and it load fine and i change region override on and saved. I reseted the wii and my region override is turned off again. plz tell me what i did wrong or a way to fix this so i can play ssbb

Well, I read it all so I have to download 1.9g Wiikey update to a DVD-R disk and the 1.3g Config disk but what do I do with the disks?

WRONG.
Get the 1.9b update since people are having problems with the 1.9g update for this workaround.. Put that in your Wii and let the flash test complete to 100%. When it actually starts flashing the chip that's when you wait until 70% to unplug your Wii console...therefore corrupting the Wiikey (until you are ready to use a recovery disc to recover it)
Brawl should work perfectly after that.

That is normal. The Region Override will show OFF, even when it's ON.
Just go ahead and play SSBB(J) it will work. However you will have to do the 15% trick or get duplicate channels.

I did the whole update and pull the plug at 70% thing and now I cannot get SSBB US to play nor can I get any burned games or update disks to play. I then tried the recovery disk and I still get nothing. What can I do now?

it sounds like a defective or wrongly/pourly installed wiikey.

i dont know if this has been answered yet but,
does the US dl iso of ssbb work on wiikey with 1.9g, on a wii with 3.1U
i hav the Jap version of singlelayer ssbb that works but i wouldnt mind havin it in english

Make sure you did the recovery properly. Even if you think your recovery didn't work, power off/reset the wii a couple times. I thought my recovery didn't work either,as no games were loading at all, but I reset it and everything worked fine again (exceptfor original SSBB-US of course but that never worked to begin with).

Hey Bruce, thanks that seemed to get me back to playing the old games. Now I just need to update back to 1.9g and I guess wait. Man this sucks, I just bought SSBB yesterday without verifying that it would work with the WiiKey. Are we any closer to a bonified workaround to play it yet? My Wii is updated to 3.2u with a soon to be 1.9g wiikey update.

GUYS!!! READ THROUGH THE TREAD THAT XSILVERX GUY HAS A SOLUTION FOR PLAYING SSBB(USA)!!! YOU GET THE 1.9b UPDATE and on the 2ncd flash, unplug the pwer from your wii at 70% thats skrews ur wiikey up so you can play brawl..... then wne you want your wiikey back, use the 1.9b recovery and you'll have your wiikey back to normal, you can do this until Team Wiikey releases an DL update...HEck,,, its beeen working for me. That silve guy is a genius!
