I just installed my wiikey with a switch but looking at the diagram in the post above, I seem to have installed it on the ground rather than the power. The ground should work as well, correct?
Also, I am having no luck getting a config disk or wiikey update disk to burn in a way that it will read. I just got nero and am about to go get some Verbatim -R DVDs but I was wondering what to burn the iso as? It given me the option for a bootable disk and this seems like what I want but I also think I should just burn it as a data disk.
So three direct questions:
1)Are TDK disks known to not work and Verbatim disks know TO work?
2)Should I burn my iso of the GCOS padded, extracted USA as a bootable disk or a data disk?
3)Is my switch on the ground an ok solution?
Thanks a lot! This is my first post and I will try to be an addition to this communty.

Well this fricken sucks. I hope the Wiikey team is still even out there...since theres no website or whatever hopefully they went underground and didn't leave their customers in the dark.

Okay, has anyone here with a Wiikey modchip at 1.9g gotten SSBB retail NTSC-U to work at all? I keep getting the Unable To Read Disc message like a lot of people and I need to know if ANYONE out there with 1.9g Wiikey can get the original US version of Brawl to work. I'm about this close from taking my chip out.
Much thanks.

Some guy posted a workaround on the psx scene forums. Supposedly if you mess up the wiikey via software then the Wii won't detect it and a RETAIL copy of Brawl will work. He says he tried it twice and it works.
- Get any update for the Wiikey 1.9b or 1.9g for example
- When the update is around 50-75% pull the plug on your Wii
- It should screw up the Wiikey and your wii won't be able to read burned discs
- Brawl should work
It's a sort of on/off switch for the Wiikey because if you want to play burned games again all you have to do is use the Wiikey recover and update back to 1.9g and everything should go back to normal...and Brawl won't work..
So recap:
Turn Wiikey off -
Do an update and plug out the console during the update to render the Wiikey's chip software useless. Somehow this affects Brawl's code that allows it to figure out whether your Wii has a modchip or not and the regular US RETAIL Brawl should work..
Turn Wiikey on -
Use your Wiikey recovery cd to fix the Wiikey and re-update it back to it's normal settings with 1.9g and also don't forget to config 1.3 to switch back on whatever you had..
I am not 100% that this works yet..I am currently doing this as I type just giving some of you guys a heads up. Yes it's time consuming as hell but it's really the only thing we have for now..atleast until the Wiikey team releases an update for the Wiikey that somehow circumvents Brawl finding the chip.
I will let you guys know if this worked for me in a few minutes.

So can you tell me what Brand of DVD did you use for your disks? Also, what program you used to burn and what setting (like data or bootable)? PLEASE?

Can anyone confirm if this is even possible?
I brought my wii to the guys who installed it for me, asked him what type of chip they had installed, they insisted and said it was most likely the wiikey. (Mind you I tried updating it to 1.9g and didn't work, whether there was an error on my part is a separate issue) Then he told me that they had to "update" the chip and charge an extra fee in updating the firmware.
Is there such a case to update your firmware you have to replace the chip? It seems implausible to me.
Sorry I am a newb @ all of this. Any help is appreciated.

Did you unplug the Wii while it was doing the first test update, or the second real update where it says DO NOT TURN ME OFF!!!1
Thanks.

Not everyone is comfortable with opening up a Wii. Me for example. I would take software hacks over hardware hacks any day... And to turn off the switch physically everytime would be a pain in the butt since you'd have to open up your wii.
But If you wanted to turn back on your Wiikey the way I said all you'd have to do is run the recovery disc.

Thanks.
The second one where it says don't turn off the Wii. The first update is only them testing to see if flashing is possible..the second one is where they are actually flashing your wiikey..so then when you cut it off you corrupt the Wiikey.

Please do not start a new thread on this.
Post the info in the Brawl thread also instead -

I'm so sorry I already did. Dam... Well for now I'll just repost in the Brawl thread then.

Just tried it again. First time at 55%, second at 51%. US Brawl will not read, but other US titles will along with my Japanese SL Brawl.

Have you unplugged your Wii on the second run of the update (not the Test one, but the real on)?
Directions say 50 to 75%. Try towards 75%.

Just tried it at 70%. Same thing happens. I am using the 1.9g update .iso to do this. Should I use a different one?

You guys got any idea in how much time the Firmware should be out? Cause I really can't spend anymore time staring at my game without playing it :(
