anubis, the reports of the ps3 costing 800 dollars are from merrill lynch.
Back in 2005, merrill lynch of japan put th ecost of the ps3 at $494. A couple months later in 2006, merrill lynch issued another report that estimated the cost of the ps3 at $800

the model was prototype, little testing had been done, they dropped the HD-DVD for the early release, poor heat dispersement, and disk scratching.
But they all do sort of the same thing, and that is rearrange what you thought was real, and they remind you of the beauty of very simple things. You forget, because youre so busy going from a to z, that theres 24 letters in between... You turn on... tune in... and you drop out...

the ps3 is out
The only reason i will buy console, are its games. PS2 games is much better than XBOX games, although XBOX have better Audio, Visual and Online feature. PS2 games have very good gameplay, like the FF series, star ocean, and many other RPG games, and the Ace Combat series, thats why my friends and me buy a PS2.
thats the same with PS3 vs XBOX 360. the reason we still not buy XBOX 360 and will buy PS3, is the games.
and the Online Feature is not an advantage for gamers in ASIA, especialy in developing country like malaysia, indonesia, philipines, etc..
For the hardware, both system (PS3, XBOX 360) are powerfull.(although XBOX 360 only can display HDTV resolution in INTERLACED). The true power of both system, is make developer can make games in high quality, full voice, hi res and no more blurry textures. But it will take a long time before they can make games that utilize more than 70% of the system power.
PC, that have the most advanced and fastest hardware, still not have games that utilize all the feature in DiretX9.0c at maximum. maybe only benchmark apps like 3D Mark that utilize all the power. like call of duty 2, at 1024*768, all setting at HIGH, only take CPU resource at 100% when there are "many action", when i just wandering around, its just 70% CPU utilization, but i dont know the GPU (vga card) utilization... lol
When the time come, when developer can utilize more than 70% XBOX 360 or PS3 power, PS3 will get the advantage of its Blu-ray drive, and XBOX will really troubled with its DVD Drive,
maybe XBOX 360 will like PS1, the Final Fantasy VIII is 4 discs game!.
lets just hope both system are durable (in Hardware and Software). My PS2 lens dead in 3 month, and now its randomly shutdown. XBOX 360 have some bug.
and i praise M$ for making their XBOX series Hardware very very durable. and i really HATE $ony for making the slim ps2 with really crappy Hardware.
conclusion:
there will be no hope for making emulator to play XBOX 360 or PS3 in PC.. UGH!!
but maybe someone can make Linux working in PS3... and use PS3 as powerfull and Cheap PC. gwahahahhahaha XD

the FF8 and FF12 cutscene is NOT RENDERED by THE CONSOLE!
the FF8 u post, is just a pre rendered animation, its an STR (ps1 video file)
u can extract it from THE GAME DISC using "psxMC". try go to http://ngemu.com to download it.
the prerendered cutscene is not really using PS1 or PS2 hardware. to the system, its like playing MPEG or DVD video on ur PC.
and the FF12 is using PSS, a MPEG2 video for PS2, its using the same MPEG2 codec as DVD, but the audio is not standard, u can try go to http://www.project-fao.org (its in japanese, but u can use google to translate it)
and if u not understant what im saying, im sorry, my bad english XD
.... hmm how did squaresoft make game mixed with FMV like in ff series.. (fmv as the background)

Everyone please stop the NONSENSE! Neither system is superior with grapohics or speed! Yes the hardware might be better for a certain system but that doesn't mean that the game developers will be able to use the full potential! Look at some of the lame games for superior systems in the past. Example, look at Twisted Metal for PS compared to FF7, big jump in game developing for the same system. IT ALL DEPENDS ON THE GAME DEVELOPERS ABILITIES, NOT THE SYSTEM! Xbox has the potential for graphics equal to the 360, just 99% of the developers can't write advanced enough code yet to harness the power of todays systems! Hardware is always 15 years ahead of software! THAT IS FACT! PS3 and 360 garble on this thread is NOT!

its not all on the dev teams, the system does mean alot. it just takes sony or ms to get good middleware for their systems to make it easier to take advantage of the system. if what you said was true, that its all on the devs abilities, then if i owned a pilots i could teach a 'mentaly handicapped' person to fly flawlessly.

well not to that extreme but just look at the luanhc games for xbox 360 and the god of war on ps2, god of war is very close to games like pgr 3. obviously the 360 has excelled with oblivion and ghostrecon but you get what i mean.

i noticed alot of the largeness in oblivion ppl talk about was skyboxes, which are tipically 1/16 scale sections projected over the land. thats how they kept it smaller

ok well i just read an interview with the developers of the darkness for the ps3 and xbox 360 and i was extremely interested by this one question that ign asked -
IGN: What is it like to program and design the game for Xbox 360 versus the PlayStation 3? We're not looking to start a blood war here. We're more interested in what it's like to program for each, and what each one's strengths and weaknesses seem to be? Also, how do you foresee the two versions differing in the final product visually, gameplay-wise, sound wise?
Magnus Högdahl: The PS3 will have a content size advantage with blu-ray and a CPU advantage for titles that are able to utilize a lot of the SPUs. The Xbox360 has a slight GPU advantage and its general purpose triple-core CPU is relatively easy to utilize compared to SPUs. I expect that it will be near impossible to tell Xbox360 and PS3 screenshots apart.
oh and by the way this game looks fantastic.
anyways this basically sums up which console is more powerfull neither, so now we go to the next thing, features such as blue ray, xbox live, exclusives.

you will be able to see a difference in audio though
as recently stated at gamestop the ps3 can support up to 512 voices
imagine playing metal gear like that

i'm not saying either system is better
sony does every genre of games
kids will want revolution
action and sports for 360
while ps3 has all genre's
compare how many good ps2 games were released in comparison to xbox games its no contest
xbox had basically no rpg games
no puzzle games
no kiddie games
YOU CAN'T SAY THIS IS ABOUT GAMES BECAUSE SONY DOMINATES IN THAT ASPECT
most games were released on ps2 before xbox for a reason you know

The only reason SONY dominates the game market is because that is the only market that they currently excel in. Plus not to mention about every ten minutes you find some sort of PS2 commercial or PSP commercial. Sony is dying in sound and electronics as a whole because now or days there are literaly thousands of top video and audio companies out. Microsoft could really care less about anything because they dominate and will continue to dominate the software market. There are only a handful of software companies that provide large scale apps to the masses. So in turn Xbox marketing is second rate to them, but it hurt them in terms of gaining 3rd party support. But who cares anyway....MS has the Halo franchise! And in todays futuristic supersoldier kill them all loving every moment of it world...thats all you need!

yeh... games kicked arse on playstation. i mean... devil may cry? what kinda crazy smart mofo thought of that XD . there IS a couple of RPG games i rememba on xbox, but they didnt really shoot off (not 100% sure but fable and sudeki are ones i remembered). loved rpg games on ps ^_^ (final fantasy series >_< they kicked off hardcore).
i think ps is attempting to get to the multiplayer aspect with eyetoy, buzz and singstar. good ideas to intro new hardware for the ps.

Well, sorta not really. I thought the sequal to some great games on PS2 will be made on PS3 (or I may be wrong). Three great examples are Metal Gear Solid and Devil May Cry and Final Fantasy. That's pretty much what I'm anticipating. I already know they're being made for PS3 already, but there are other titles I hope that will be also made on PS3.
