I had reset it a few times and also pulled the power cord out of the back right before I started the VC game.

I have a WiiKey that has been updated to the 1.9g,and it plays all of my backups fine but will not play a store bought copy of SSBB. If you recently purchased a WiiKey then there is a good chance that yours is already upgraded to the 1.9g and out of curiosity what version of the Wii do you have? D2A, D2B, D2C,etc. Are you sure you have a Wii that is compatable with the WiiKey?
Below are pics of my install. As said before, tested all connections, switch included. All are fine. Chip number is visible as well on first pic.

So whadda y'all think? Looks good to me... (thanks for looking)
I do not know why you have the 2 orange wires hooked to it, based on the picture the version you have should have just needed to use solder on the six points, the 4 around the bottom curve and then the two big ones in the middle for the power and ground.

Help I tried the smash bros brawl trick and unplugged my wii with 70% upddate done on the 1.9b disc....now I think I've screwed up my wiikey. How do I use the recovery disc? I downloaded it and burnt it (did not file crop or anything...should I have)? How do I use this disc?

When you unzipped the file there should have been a .txt file to accompany it giving you directions on how to use it.

Place the disk in the drive.
Power off the Wii and then back on.
Press the "A" button to get to the main menu.
Leave it alone for 3-5 minutes.(During this time you will see no indication that it is working, no disk spinning, no screen flashes, nothing.
Power off the Wii and then back on leaving the disk in the drive and wait a few more minutes to see if the gamecube logo pops up on the screen.
It may take a few resets to get it to take.

If the process does not work, try it again, there have been times it has taken me 5+ tries to get it to work.

Right I did that and it didn't work so I was wondering if I did not burn the disc correctly? I just downloaded it and burnt it without a problem but should I have file cropped it to the ~1.4 gig limit?

It goes to a switch so I can disable my wiikey without going through all the hastle that the rest of the forum is going through. Now if only I could find out why it wont read the config disks that I am burning, maybe I would be a bit happier.

Oh well. My backup of endless ocean must be done by now. I will try and burn that to a -R DVD (TDK) and see what I see.

New to the site, but not a complete n00b so I'll make it simple, haha

I have a NTSC (US) Wii w/Wiikey (1.9g) & 3.2 Update

What I ended up doing is using the Japanese version trick (update till about 10% and unplug) and played the Japanese version of SSBB for a while, but when I downloaded the US version of SSBB(U) and burned it to a dual layer, I got the "Error #001 unauthorized device has been detected" message

If anyone has any ideas, let me know, thanks a lot

Hey by "might take a few resets" do you mean after turning it on to find no GC logo, i should just keep hitting the reset until the GC logo comes up OR do you mean do the whole process (tak out disc, on/off) again?

UPDATE!

Ok so I got it to work.

So after I read your post (I had just woken up), I unplugged my Wii off the power, waited some seconds, plugged it back in.

I thought I had the other recovery disc inside so I kept pushing Eject but I remembered I took it out because I wanted to try the plain Recovery disc as it is for download.

So when I turned it on, on the black screen where you push "A" I put the new recovery disc inside. Then I pushed "A" and... I saw the GameCube logo...

So I'm like.. did this happen because of THIS disc or because of last night's last try? I don't know now.. haha!

But anyways, then I put in the Wiikey 1.9g update so I could run Galaxy... It went to the 1st time, test mode then I pushed A.. Then for the actual FLASH, it gave me an error of ReadID Error, push "A" to retry.. and it wouldn't go forward from then..

Now I can't read discs again! So I'm going to try the recover once again.. <sigh> and hopefully get it back to work and not touch ever again!!

I can understand your excitement but, what do you mean by "I wanted to try the plain Recovery disc as it is for download" (o_0)??

im probably gonna go back and forth between corrupting my wiikey and fixing it. so im just gonna wait to fix it until they come out with the update so our wiikey's can read the original SSBB, which will hopefully be soon.. its not actually a big deal. after all, SSBB will definately last me a long time anyways now that i think about it

I meant the one that is on Page 1 of this post. The 1.9b Recover link. I just downloaded it and burned it as it was.

Again, I put the disc inside on the black screen before the Wii Menu and as soon as I pushed "A" on the Wii remote I saw the GameCube icon.. So I don't really know if this disc did it or just the last of 20-30 times I did last night did it and I just gave up on the time it actually worked...

The crazy thing about that 1.9g update disc is that is the same exact disc I used to flash it the 1st time a couple of months ago or so... Not sure why it wouldn't work this time.. But I'm going to try to recover once again, get a new copy of the 1.9g update, burn it again the DVD-R medias I have and then try it out.. hopefully it will work this time..

Wow. I am so amazed that all these poeple think it would be harder to just put a switch in the chip than it would be to go through all these disc swaps and hacky fixes.

On that note, have any of you heard of a wiikey that simply did not work? I have checked, rechecked, and triple checked my soldering with a multimeter, posted pics of my install and linked to them in a previous post, tried a TDK media -rDVD of 1.9b burned with Nero, no love.

Each time I try to load a config disc or an update disc, I put it in my wii, power off, power on, press A, go to the disc chanel and it says "unable to load disc"

Am I doing something wrong THERE? I mean, I can't be because when I have my Wiikey enabled, SSBB legit loads and plays fine.

I have been under the impression that SSBB will NOT play if ANY wiikey of ANY version firmware is installed in the system, correct? For this reason, I am using it as a negative test.

On the other hand, I received my Wiikey less than a week ago. IS there any chance that mine just works with Brawl? And not with the update discs? .....and not the config discs? .......sigh.......

I did the exact same thing but my NTSC USA copy works like a charm.
I have the same setup wii too.
Funny thing is my wii wouldnt read the Japanese version DL.
Resulting in the same error you received.
I had to do the swap trick to get the DL to work.

Maybe try different media.

It was the one above those... It says:

C) If your Wiikey is not responding to either Config Discs or Update ones, then try to revive it by using the Wiikey Recover Discs below:

1.9b Recover <-- this link.

OK. I am a nOOb too but I have read this thread and others and I think I can help you.

Wiikey can be disabled via a firmware hack in order to play SSBB but if you havn't installed it yet and don't have a backup copy of SSBB(U) best to just go the straightforward rout and just wait to install the wiikey until there is real firmware support for Dual Layer discs. That way, you can at least play brawl.

If you are dead set on going ahead with this process, know now that your apparent lack of ability/drive to figgure this out for yourself will probably be your undoing in the end. A fair bit of patience and testing/problem solving is essential here.

First, install Wiikey
next, do 1.9b update
next, do 1.9b update and pull the power chord at 75% (this will disable your wiikey)
play SSBB to your heart's content
lastly, run the 1.9b recovery disk (linked in resources section of first post of this thread) by following the steps detailed in this thread. I would give you steps but they are apparently being discussed currently (in terms of what exactly is the correct way to run it)

After having said all that, I HIGHLY RECCOMEND just putting a switch on the power or ground pad of the wiikey so you don't have to worry about any of this except for the install. Want to play SSBB legit? Flip tha' switch. Wanna play backups? Flip it back. Simple.

im thinking your vigilant resetting did the trick since that recovery link is only 40MB. Isnt the wii not able to read anything but approx 1.4 GB disc? i might be horriblly wrong.

Anyways, the GCOS version of the recovery disc isnt working. Im running low on DVDs and if i get desparate I'll brun this 40MB version

hmm... this is what i think... i think our problem is because this is a 1.9b recovery disc. since the wiikey team didnt make a 1.9g recovery disc it will be harder to recover it when you use the corruption method with the 1.9g disc, since its practically a 1.9g wiikey when you unplug your wii. so to avoid this problem in the future, it would be best to upgrade back to 1.9g and then use the 1.9b update disc to do the corruption method only. that way the recovery disc will work with no problem. but then again, this is only a hypothesis
