Ok...finally got my Wiikey, and the trihead screw driver. Now I know for a fact I have a GC2-D2C chipset in my Wii. What a bummer!!! Now I have to see if I can return and refund my Wiikey so that I may be able to buy there D2Ckey. Does anyone have any good advice about the D2Ckey, and what I will need to install after I get one of them?

Im really in a rut here guys,
Heres the deal:
*Updated to 3.2U
*"corrupted" my wiikey using a 1.9B update disk (had 1.9G on it)
Played Brawl that yesterday night
TODAY:
*Brawl freezes after starting game (Black screen, no into no nothing)
*Recovery disk does not work (burned at 4X, 2.4 X, d/l the padded one, padded it myself, left for 3 minutes, 5 minutes, 10 minutes)
*When i put in the recovery disk i dont HEAR it spinning
*when i eject the recovery disk, my Wii spits it out, takes it back in, then completely throws it out of the slot!
i dont know what to do guys...any help would be awesome, i just want my wii to work!

yeah... thats pretty much my problem. but just know that the recovery disc isnt supposed to be spinning in the wii. i know its weird that it recovers the wiikey without actually spinning but its true

So I am a nOOb here, I modded my Wii, I got power inconsistancies. I got some wierd drive malfunctions (running only on startup, ect). Anybody think this sounds familiar? I have seen TONS of posts about power inconsistancies and drive malfunctions all OVER the web concerning newly modded Wiis.
I think I found the Problem
Where is the one place that both the power and the disc drive are controlled? The faceplate. And what is the faceplate reduced to when the Wii is dissassembled? A single plug that attaches to the main console. Two wires.
The same two wires that are all too easy to pinch between the faceplate edge and the console edge if you are not careful during replacement.
This is the scenario:
Modder opens Wii
Modder CAREFULLY installs chip
Modder happily (hastily?) reassembles console after successful test
Modder sees problem, blames self, wiikey team, a vengeful god but never the innocent two wires connecting the faceplate to the system.
This may not be the fix for all but it will damn sure be the fix for some because it was a fix for me
The prosecution rests:)

I burned the recovery disk using a DVD-R, but it took a few reboots of the Wii after leaving the recovery disk in for 5 min. I left the disk in the Wii and rebooted what seemed like the fifth or sixth time and lo and behold the Gamecube screen came up on the main menu after a minute or two.
As for the Wii spitting out the disk, taking it back in, and then completely ejecting it, the same thing happened to me so when it spit it out and then took it back in, I pulled the power before it could completely eject it and it hasn't happened since.

Oh,I forgot, I never once heard the recovery disk spin except the initial spin when I powered on the Wii with the disk in it.

So allof my power issues and disk drive wierdness is over but I still am trying to verify that my wiikey is working. I can play SSBB but I have never updated the wiikey at all. Out of the package, into the wii. Will I still see SSBB fail to load?
I have checked each connection with a multimeter and all are good. no idea what to do next other than try to burn another copy of 1.9b and try to get it to recognize it. I wish the wiikey had an LED on the board to show you some basic state info...

I have a WiiKey that has been updated to the 1.9g,and it plays all of my backups fine but will not play a store bought copy of SSBB. If you recently purchased a WiiKey then there is a good chance that yours is already upgraded to the 1.9g and out of curiosity what version of the Wii do you have? D2A, D2B, D2C,etc. Are you sure you have a Wii that is compatable with the WiiKey?

patience...i know its UBER hard, but yeah
so, so far the resetting technique isnt working.
Ive been inserting the recovery disk, reseted, let it idle for 5 minutes, then...heres where i might be messing up. should i reset again or should i turn off, then on and check? (w/o removing the recovery disk?
if it re-flashed the wiikey, it should show the GC logo riiight

I tried the recovery disc myself.. Burned it on a DVD+R though... Maybe that's the problem?
I know it's not supposed to do anything; I just put the disc in the wii, hit reset and push "A" on the wii remote to get to the main screen and leave for 3-5 minutes? That's what I did but no success on reading anything but the originals...
It happened after I updated to 3.2U on my NTSC.. very weird..

Below are pics of my install. As said before, tested all connections, switch included. All are fine. Chip number is visible as well on first pic.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ATTENTION: As I have said earlier, the Firmware method to stop the Wiikey is effective, but RISKY, as all procedures involving Firmware updates are.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The main problem is that it could lead to firmware corruption, which will leave the Wiikey in a state of Suspension and even the Recover discs may not work.
Please, make sure that, when burning you Wiikey update/config discs you take the utmost care to ensure successful burns:
1) Use good quality DVD-R media
2) Do not run any other processes when burningthe discs
3) Verify the burn, if possible
NOTE: In the past we have seen episode of firmware corruption which were 'RESISTANT' to recover. In a few instances, users had to run the Recover disc 15 to 20 times to successfully recover the Wiikey (Keep pressing reset after each recover cycle - Then try turning the the Wii Off/On and see it it wors - If not repeat a few more times).
Finally, when it comes to updating/recovering your Wiikey, there are only three ways:
1) Wii can read Wii backups: then use regular update/config discs
2) Wii cannot read Wii backups, but read Gamecube discs: then use update/config discs in GCOS mode
3) Wii does not read either Wii or Gamecube backups, then the RECOVER disc is the only solution, unless there is a physical problem, such as soldering, wiring, drive optics, dvd media burn, etc..
Where's the party?!?

Got it.. Going on about 10 times already on the cycle..
Would it show the GameCube logo for the recover disc if it successfully flashed it? Because I don't want to take it out and try an actual backup and screw up how many times in a row I do the recover (if that even matters?)

Ok so while I was waiting for the minutes for the recover disc I was browsing around..
So I also read that the screen is supposed to go black when the disc is inside?
That doesn't happen, it just sits on the Wii Menu, not doing anything.. I must had done the process about 20 times, no luck..
Not sure what the problem is.. All I know is that everything was fine until I did the Web update to 3.2U (I'm not sure it's needed for SSBB, so I was getting the Wii ready to play..)
Oh well.. the update either screwed the Wiikey up or it's just incredible coincidence that the chip died right when I did the update..

i dont know why. but the screen doesnt actually go black. if you wanna test to see if your wiikey works again then try an actual backup disc of a game

The screen never went black for me, and I don't think this matters but I put in my recovery disk and powered on my console, waited a minute or so after it came up and started playing one of my virtual console games to pass the time hoping that the flashing would continue while I played since the VC games do not require the DVD drive. After 10 minutes I quit my VC game and powered off the console, I then powered it back on with the recovery disk still in it.Let it sit for 2-3 minutes (maybe not even that long) and the Gamecube logo just appeared on the main menu where the game should be.
Originally posted by Sn4key: I did, I tried Smash Bros. No success. Then tried an original, worked...
I still have not gotten an original store bought copy of SSBB to work even after effectively "breaking" my WiiKey.So you might try a different backup than SSBB.

Did you reset your wii after you powered it back on? And you eventually saw the gc logo with the recover disc inside? Maybe I'll try playing a gc game for 10 mind and give it a try.. Thanks for the info!
