A couple of things.
This is just a comment and shows about products are getting more compatible. Memorex does not manufacture ANY media. But, the big reason I never get Memorex is that they tend to use different manufactorers all the time to make their media for them. The shop around for the cheapest (usually CRC), and send it out. So, there is no consistency.
It sounds like DVDs are getting like CDs are far as compatibility. BUT ...the BIG difference between the lower quaility media and the better quality media is usually how long the media lasts. How the media is pressed and the chemical make of it will differ on how long the little magnetic information will stay on.
Something like Taiyo Yuden (found in Fuji), will last a lifetime.
The second item is that this is the first time that I ever heard that there was a way to create a backup for PS2 CDs or DVDs that will work, unless there is chip or special type of CD on the PSA side. The problem is that the PS2 games have something to "boot up" the PD2, which doesn't work when copied.
If anyone can do this without ANY type of chip or boot up CD or DVD for hte PS2, PLEASE let me know. That is big news.

I have a problem and I thought I might ask your opinion about a possible solution as it has not been documented anywhere that I've checked.
My PS2 always boots to it's system config menu prior to loading a game disk (even when the disk was inserted before turning the console on). It's never been an issue because all I did was select the game disk via the browser.
I recently purchased a Swap Magic 3.6 disc. Now, after using my swap disk, it boots to the config menu invalidating the whole swapping process entirely. Ever hear of this problem? (Not with the swap discs, specifically, but with the whole booting to the main menu first as it is apparently the root cause of the whole mess.)
Thanks in advance for your time!

Actually my PS2 would do something similar. It would have long delay times when loading, sometimes making it necessary to go to the browser to load games. I sent it off to be modded a week ago, and the installer said the delay was corrected by adjusting the voltage slightly. He's a pro, so don't attempt this yourself. Aside from that, try cleaning the Laser with a Q tip and rubbing alcohol. Does it boot other games normally? What do you use to boot games, a flip top, slim tool, slide card, etc.?

Voltage, eh? Well, I've got a brother in law who's great with that sort of thing. I'll try cleaning it first, though.
I'm using a slide tool and Swamp Magic 3.6 on an ancient PS2. This happens on absolutely anything I put into the PS2.

Nope. Rebuild with Nero and Isobuster (if it's over 4.38GB's) and see if that works. Remember not every game over 4.38GB's needs rebuilt to work with Swap Magic. Try a straight burn with DVD Decrypter first. PenguinX lemme know how it works after you clean it.

Hi, I started to read through the entire topic before realizing around the 5th page how long this thread is so please excuse me for not reading all of it, I just don't have that kind of time lol. I apologize if my question has been asked/answered before, but i think I have a rather unique situation so I don't think anyone will have addressed it yet. I don't actually have a windows machine, I run a mac with OSX and emulate windows using a program called virtual pc so that i can take advantage of software available only to windows users. My problem with the DVD Decrypter is that after it's read the game file and created the mds file, which i believe is also referred to as an ISO image file, the Decrypter can't write the file to a disc because it claims that it cannot locate a writer, or burner, however I do have a dvd burner which I have successfully used many times, for some reason or another windows will not recognize the burner tho. So, my problem is that I now have this mds file but the only way I can burn it is to carry it over to Mac OSX, which shouldn't be a problem, however my question is, is this mds file the same thing as a regular old image file that one would burn to a disc when backing up a dvd movie? For instance I use DVD2One to convert from Video TS to an image file, is this so called image file the same thing as the mds AKA ISO image file? If not, do you know of another program that could be used to burn the mds file to a disc, and by what means would you do it?(burn an image file, video ts, etc.?)
thank you,
nikmorris

thanks a lot for your reply. The other thread mentions something about if a ps2 game file needs to be "fixed" in order to work you won't be able to do it with mac. So in the event that this were to happen to me, does anyone know of a way to get Virtual PC to recognize my dvd burner? If I could get it to do that i could just use windows DVD Decrypter and avoid the whole mac mess.
thanks again

http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/252193 -Answer to all questions. Games that need to rebuilt to work with Swap Magic aren't currently playable if you have a Mac, as the software needed to rebuild them is incompatible with the Mac. This only applies to games over 4.38GB's.

i have a skill testing question. i can't seem to get my backups to work. well i can't even get to the part of trying them. i get stuck after or perhaps when using cddvdgen. i get errors, but 3 errors and theyre not the ones listed in the tutorials. its more like "cannot find scsi adapter(which comes up 2x) then "initialization failed" but the proper box comes up to let me create the iml file. so i select extract. it goes throught the process creating the files. .001, .002 etc. however one of them, can't remember is a WinRAR file and i cannot open it. it is quite large to. (1gb) so when i use iml2iso i cannot select any files. i think its a probelem with cd dvd gen but im not sure. (ive got version 1.5 btw) so if anyone can point me in the right direction , much appreciated. o, the game is swbf2 that i cant seem to get to far. ive looked all over the net and can't find out what the problem is. thanks in advance

You have to download WinRAR, install it and right click on the first numbered file, then click extract here. Why are you rebuilding the game? How big is the iso?

the game is 4+ gigs. i have WinRAR and tried to extract the file. it says its corrupt or something. i searched on the net and i guess its not fully or properly been completed. this is the rar file that cd dvd gen has created for some reason. so im not sure where the problem lies. im assuming its when im running cd dvdgen and trying to create the iml file. any thoughts?
